Its says Westham United as well, not Manchester United.

Kevin Strootman (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈkɛ.vɪn ˈstroʊ̯t.mɑn]) (born 13 February 1990) is a Dutch footballer currently playing for Dutch Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven. He primarily plays as a central midfielder. On 6th June 2012, a fee of £11 million pounds had been agreed between Westham United and PSV for the transfer of the player.

Oh just the world needs - an agent who knows how to edit Wikipedia to put pressure on his clients club :)

In 2011 Borst ceased all writing and television activities, claiming he was mentally exhausted

I can't remember seeing Strootman play. Anyone able to give an overview of what he's all about?

Some would say a graceful player. Fast runner, good vision. Tendency to get his head stuck in the sand though.

This will probably be lost on everyone

In either case, it will be good to watch him in action at the Euros. Word is that he will move to England or Italy after the tournament.

A newspaper story doesn't necessarily need quotes or a source for it to be valid.

There are no quotes regarding Nick Powell being a done deal for example, time will tell whether or not he is right or not.

I hope the constant linking of us to him is a case of no smoke without fire, no one else seems to be going for him and the price and age seem to fit our transfer strategy.

They have a YouTube in their artice. This definitely means that the story is 100% reliable.

Didn't play again. The bad thing is we don't get to see how he performs before any transfer takes place. But the good thing is his price won't sky rocket IF we are interested due to him not playing much in the Euros.

He really should have played. Playing both De Jong and Van Bommel was just an awful decision. Would have been great to see what he's capable of at this level.

Can's correct though if this lad is genuinely a target him not playing at these Championships is a good thing for us. I suspect he'll play in the next game though given Holland's need for some fresh impetus

In my opinion he doesn't play because he's just not that good. I'm surprised he's even linked with us. He's still young but I just think he's more like a midtable player rather than the answer to our midfield 'problems'. My guess is he'll never sign for us, and in a few years someone will bump this thread and ask what happened to him.

Have you seen him play much? What has given you that view, he seems very highly rated.

Yes, I watch the Eredivisie every week, because we've got great coverage of that league here. Don't get me wrong, people in Holland are also rating him more than I do. It's just my personal opinion of him. Whenever I've seen PSV play this season (and I have watched them several times in broadcasted games, as well as in highlights every week, though they don't say that much of course) I've not been impressed by him. I have not been impressed with PSV at all to be honest as I thought they played very average throughout the season, even when they were still in the race for the title.

He didn't really have a big impact on PSV's game and didn't really lift them to a higher level. I would expect a talented player, even if he's still young, to add something to the team that raises the level of the team. To me he was just 1 of the 11 players and didn't strike me as a player that added the things I would be looking for in a player that would have the talent to play for United. For a midfielder I would look for either creativity and flair, and in Strootman's case I guess we would be looking for the ability to control a game and maintain control over games. I did not see anything from him to suggest he can do that, and I just can't see him in a United midfield as a midfielder who will help control games and run the tempo of the match.

Again, I know he's still young and maybe he will develop into a better a player than I expect him to be, but I just can't see us signing him today and expecting him to solve our problems in midfield. He should probably just remain at PSV for now anyway, regardless of teams being interested in him. He has certainly not finished learning at PSV yet.

I have barely seen Strootman play but maybe he is one of those Carrick type players that does his job in the quiet and can be hard to notice? When Carrick was 22 he played for a relegated West Ham team, Fletcher at 22 was driving the United fans crazy me included. Central midfielders are usually the latest to mature and develop along with goalies and centre backs. Maybe the United scouts/Fergie has seen something in Strootman and they want him now instead of risking losing him to a top club or a club like Spurs that would demand 25-30 million in a few years?

Btw Van Bommel is married to Bert van Marwijk's daughter, we might have to factor that in when we consider why a 35 year old Van Bommel is playing instead of other Dutch central midfielders. Nepotism exists everywhere in society...

Over the years we have bought several players I've personally not thought were "United quality" but under the guidance here they have risen to become much more than I could see, hence why Fergie and co are in charge and I'm on the Caf.

Probably the most recent is Valencia, I imagine (even if they wont admit it now) that many United fans were as underwhelmed with signing of the low scoring one trick pony from Wigan as I was, 3 seasons on and he's a complete beast.

I've only seen youtube videos of Strootman so I am not launching a defense of him, but I think the idea that we can buy in a ready made class CM to make the instant impact is perhaps wishful thinking, but if Fergie bought Strootman at the age he is I'd be confident he would develop into what we need, even if we have a teething period where we go a couple of seasons without trophy etc...long term the players we target will likely pan out given our decent success rate under the blueprint.

It's a tricky thing to gauge the quality of a defensive midfielder.

How do you distinguish a DjembaX2 from a Tiote? a Kleberson from an Anderson (Anderson as the next Ronaldinho was always a myth)? a Strootman from a De Jong?

A player like Essien or Keane who is truly box-to-box, can score goals and marshal the defence is easily worth their huge transfer fee. But I'm not sure there is any player like that out there and available right now.

That means you need to take a punt on someone. If you can get Modric to bolster our central midfield, then you get him in my opinion despite his slight frame. But if it were me, and Modric was out of reach, then I'd go for Kwadwo Asamoah. I haven't seen much of Strootman or M'Vila or Javi Martinez, but Asamoah could do a job for us and can control the tempo of a match.

One thing that seems certain is that the club is talking to a number of players and a number of clubs. There has been smoke around Asamoah, M'Vila, Strootman, Martinez (?), and I believe Tiote. There may be other players too obscure to the rest of us to make it to the press. United will get the best available and only time will tell if we have a Liam Miller or a new Roy Keane on our hands.

Erm could it be the case that the manager is playing 900 yr old van bommel instead because he happens to be his daughters husband? Just asking.

That's a good argument yes, and yes I know Van Bommel is married to Van Marwijk's daughter and there's a good chance that plays a role in insisting on playing him. It's clear that Van Bommel has a hard time doing a proper job against quality players and quality teams like Germany nowadays. However, I also think that the next generation of dutch footballers is just not as good as the Sneijder, Van der Vaart, Robben and Van Persie generation. So even if you take Van Bommel out, it doesn't mean that the person taking his place is as good as Van Bommel was or if that new player has the talent to be as good as Van Bommel was. I really think that the dutch have a somewhat less talented generation coming through lately, and when they start replacing the older players, they might not be as good as the previous generation was in their day.

I too have been surprised in a positive sense on several occasions by some of our signings over the years, and Strootman might be one too if we ever signed him. However right now I just judge on what I currently know and have seen from the player so far and based on that, I do not see a United player in him.

Of course if we do ever sign him, I'll cheer for him like everyone else and hope he turns out to be a lot better than I expected. :)
