But yes they are different in terms of the way they both go about that role.

However we do not really have a young creative ACM who is consistant and can run with the ball at pace and drive the play forward ala Silva and that is what we need more than a deeplying playmaker type unless we plan to use Strootman differently than PSV currently do.

In fairness he is capable of playing as an attacking CM and has done on occasions so who knows.

I think Strootman and Carrick would work well for us together.
 
For anyone that has actually seen him play, how is he defensively? What role does he play in midfield? what player is he smilar to?

He's got good energy and good drive, no slouch, good distribution picks the right pass mostly keeping it simple, good movement off the ball breaking forward, very competitive, left footed, decent tackler not a hard man or a maverick but a very good sturdy reliable player. Would be a quality signing. :lol: How's that?

He sounds uninspiring, a bit like Carrick.

Surely we need someone with a big presence in the midfield a la Yaya Toure and someone with a touch of genius a la Iniesta.

I don't know, say Javi Martinez and Ander Herrera.

I know it was Mendes! I was just wondering who was on his books at the moment. Well I am heartened to hear the JR is. Who else is he representing?

:lol: Fair play buddy! Personally I would like Kyle Walker as my wet dream signing as this chopping and changing right back has really done my head in and Rafael gives me angina attacks! ;)

It's not as bad as it was. It's grown on me, which tells me this guy might have some kind of potential somewhere. But it's still not striking me as a 'United' type name, so I'm going to say there is no interest from us.
 
Holland used to have a tall and highly rated midfielder, i think his name is Engelaar or something like that, and he was making waves going into Euro 2008. Are they the same kind?
 
Is this strootman guy the real deal or a bit of a work in progress? I don't know much about him
 
If we signed him, would he come Stroot into the team or would he be more likely a back-up?

At least he's the type of player we should be looking to sign. Hopefully if we're interested we've agreed a price, he could have a very good Euros...
 
I don't know much about him but he's supposed to be good. Dutch players usually do well when they move outside Holland and he's already a starter for their national team so he must be doing something right.
 
I have only watched you tube clips of this guy but what I do like about him is he has a change of pace and likes to burst forward. Scholes and Carrick are superb passers but can rarely get players turned around with the ball at their feet. He looks a big lump as well which I like as we seem a bit short arsed at times. Don't get to see much football beside Utd during the season so I will be watching the euros with interest to see some of these rumoured targets.
 
Should be our number one target after agreeing terms with Kagawa. Flexible central midfielder capable of playing defensively, offensively, or in a two man system.
 
not sure whether fergei is really interested in him but i will try to watch him closely at the euros. seems to be a very good player. and we all know dutch internationals are mostly technically excellent players. could be a great addition to our midfield.
