If Kevin isn't joining us, Erentz will have a field day in here. I'm curious if Strootman changed his mind or if it was all puff.

PSV insist Manchester United target will be staying in Holland
Manchester United target Kevin Strootman has committed himself to spending another season at PSV Eindhoven, according to the Dutch club's technical manager.
New United boss David Moyes officially started work at Old Trafford yesterday and he has been tipped to make the Netherlands international one of his first signings at the club.
The Premier League champions need strengthening in the middle of the park and Strootman, 23, is considered one of the finest young midfielders in Europe.
But Moyes could be forced to seek alternatives as Marcel Brands, the PSV technical manager, is adamant his star man will remain at the club this summer.
He told De Telegraaf: "[Kevin] Strootman we do not want to lose. He also knows himself that he will play at PSV for another season."

feck that!

Maybe Remi Moses will come out of retirement?

All ifs and buts, but if we were interested in Strootman as a back-up and we have now pulled out then it says we have signed another midfielder. Or maybe we were never interested and he has no offers and has to stay. Or Moyes said no way and pulled the plug on this one or some other reason. Who knows. Whatever interests you most will always be the answer in the off-season.

I'd be happy if we spent the 8.5 or whatever on Kondogbia. I think he's a good player. I've seen him more than Strootman. I think for that price it's a safe option. Even if it doesn't work out we could make most of the transfer fee back.

I guess it would make sense for him to play another year at PSV. He's a guaranteed starter there, and will play whenever he's fit, where as he'd be more of a rotation option here, I think. He'll want a shot at getting into the World cup squad for next summer, and maybe look for a move after that.

I'm speculating, but it seems logical.

Or maybe we have never even made a move for him.

Does it? He's already 23 years old. Surely he's at the point in his career where he needs to be testing himself in a top league rather than the sub-standard Dutch one.

If he's staying then we haven't bid for him or were interested and have pulled out due to other targets. No way he turns down us for PSV for another year.

This club's technical manager talk is nothing more but a psychological trick to make this deal even closer to happen with a good price for PSV.

"He's not for sale, therefore he's not so he gonna cost You some."

It's the right time for him to move and it was already said from few bigger figures in Dutch football.

I think we'll be in for him next season. With the World Cup coming up, he may want to ensure he's a regular starter. No guarantee with us.

We may well have had a look and decided not to go for it. In the past we've been linked heavily with dutch players such as Hofland and Hunterlaar and nothing ever happened.

Surprised. I thought he was nailed on. I did think that having both Stroot and Thiago would be a bit too much though. Both expect to start, and only one place next to Carrick really.

Theory of this falling through due to us being closer to Thiago isn't a bad shout.

Hard to say as the window just started and we're in for months of news and speculations but You may be right.

He could be also an alternative, a sort of emergency plan because from what Fergie said before his retirement - there's place for a huge signing, this summer.

It's a bit complicated as we're already linked to more than five midfielders at the start of July.

James Ducker from the Times. That really should be enough for you. The lad is paid to know what goes on in Manchester.
I know what is enough for me, and that is when David Moyes or the club declare that they have a interest in the player.

Then you really need to learn a bit more about transfers. If I remember correctly, we never pubicly declared our interest for Powell or Kagawa. We did for van Persie but that was Fergie being Fergie.

I don't think anyone had a clue we were interested in Chicharito or Varela when he signed.

Why would anyone at United publicly declare their interest in a player and risk destabilizing the transfer?

He also gets paid on the basis of having a reputation of knowing what goes on in Manchester so when transfer stories drag out over a period as long as this he'll naturally be a part of that regardless of any truth to it.
