Roma actually dont have a bad team. They are slowly working their way into building a nice team. Their attacking options are more than decent. Its their defense and GK that needs strengthening. They were also linked with Nani last week. They will do well to get him if he leaves us.

Absolutely gutting that we haven't signed Netherlands under 21s 3rd best midfielder of the summer  All because hes good in football manager and some papers said we wanted him. I dont think we'll miss the dutch Gareth Barry

Yeah, nobody said he was the Dutch Gareth Barry. That quote has been misrepresented every single time it's been mentioned. I'm sure you probably know that though.

You're just a muppet, that's all. You're talking absolute shit and being one of those "I'M A HIPSTER!". You sound like an absolute tool, sorry, but it's the truth.

It's one thing to not rate a player but to start talking showers of shit is another thing. Football manager? Stop being stupid, nobody here's rating him because of a fecking football game. I was also saying it's absolutely gutting to me, not anybody else. I've followed him for a few years now and rate the guy and like him, that's why personally I'm gutted he's signed for another side. Reply to my question. How many times have you watched Strootman. Please, tell me.

Strootman is already a very good player with potential to be great. If you want to act like a child and reply with ":lol::lol:" then there's no point in even taking you seriously ever again.

Wasn't the original quote something along the lines of "he's at least better than Gareth Barry"? While it's obviously not the same as "dutch Gareth Barry", saying he's at least better than him isn't a huge compliment imo

Yeah a muppet wants us not to make a transfer. Brilliant these 2012ers

I've watched Strootman multiple times for PSV and every game this summer for the under 21s where he was outshone by Chelsea's Van Ginkel and PSV's new signing Maher. How many times have you signed him on football manager? Strootman is okay, the fee is excessive as is your hyperbole.

The comment was insinuating that he could play for a big team in England, by using Gareth Barry as an example of a player playing regularly for a top English club.

You're misrepresenting what he said, again. Are you being stupid deliberately, by accident, or without knowing? Or are you misrepresenting it as some sort of hilarious WUM?

Advocaat was suggesting Strootman wasn't just good enough for the likes of Liverpool and Spurs, but United and City too, and used Barry as an example of a midfielder playing for a top English club that he was "at least as good as". It was clear he meant if Barry can play for a top English club then Strootman is definitely good enough to play for them too.

"Strootman is as good as Gareth Barry. He's a very useful player for every team. Especially when he's surrounded by better players."

Stop being an idiot. He said he's as good as

I think if we miss out on this one it will be a mistake similar to missing out on Witsel when at Standard liege (different type of player) and then appearing interested before he left Benfica.

Of course most don't hear about Witsel since he moved to Zenit but he'd still have been a good addition to us in my opinion, as would Strootman.

If Advocaat said he's as good as Carrick or Yaya Toure, people would laugh at him. There's nothing wrong with being modest. Barry is a regular at team that finished 1st and 2nd in the last two years, and was England's regular under Capello.

It's pointless to compare Strootman's performances for the u21s to Maher's and to a lesser degree van Ginkel's as their roles were so different. Strootman's main job was to stabilize, freeing up the other 2. He'll be a solid signing for Roma.

And JB77 probably called you a muppet in a more traditional sense rather than one of the transfer variety.

City fans mostly speak highly of Barry as well. Perhaps as under-appreciated as Carrick has been in recent seasons up until the season just gone. De Jong got more recognition in the deeper midfield role at City because he ran about, smashing into people, slide tackling like a lunatic, so he made an instant impression. Barry is as unremarkable as it gets aesthetically, but I've always rated him as a reader of the game, and an excellent retainer of the ball. His athleticism and mobility can be a bit of a weakness though.

Daily Mirror reporting today, that PSV have agreed a £15m deal with Roma for The Stroot, with De Rossi then going to Chelsea, contrary to comments from PSV that Strootman's stayin for one more year!

Just saying like...

Chelsea's Daniele de Rossi transfer clears another hurdle as Roma agree deal for replacement Strootman

Making the leap: Italy regular De Rossi looks bound for Chelsea

Jose Mourinho is closing in on Chelsea's prime midfield target Daniele de Rossi, as Roma agreed a fee on the Italy star's replacement.

The Serie A giants are ready to let De Rossi go after completing the signing of PSV Eindhoven's Kevin Strootman.

But Roma are demanding that the Londoners loan them teenage Brazilian full-back Wallace as part of the £11million transfer of De Rossi, 29.

We revealed last week that Mourinho, who tried to sign De Rossi at both Inter Milan and Real Madrid, believes the Italian will be the perfect fit for the midfield fulcrum of his new-look Blues.

Roma wanted to have a replacement for De Rossi sorted out before allowing him to go, and PSV technical director Marcel Brands has now confirmed a £15m agreement is in place for Strootman.
That will free De Rossi to join the Blues on a four-year deal worth around £110,000 per week - as long as Chelsea are prepared to part with Wallace, a £4m capture from Fluminense who only joined up with his new team-mates on Monday, to sweeten the move.

Mourinho sees the experienced De Rossi as the key component to give his side ballast in midfield, initially alongside Frank Lampard, although in the expectation that Dutch recruit Marco van Ginkel will mature into a starter over the next year.

The "Special One" flies out to Bangkok on Thursday for the Asian leg of Chelsea's pre-season campaign after three days of training at their Cobham HQ.

Hot stuff: Chelsea have not been put off by De Rossi's drink problem (joke!)

The Blues' Confederations Cup players - David Luiz, Oscar, Juan Mata, Fernando Torres, Cesar Azpilicueta and Galatasaray-bound John Obi Mikel - will miss the start of the tour.

Mourinho suggested he will leave for the Far East a happy camper.

He said: "It is a pity when you cannot start with all of your players, and I have six that are not here, but I am so happy to be back.

"I feel the same happiness in every player. It is not just about commitment and great attitude but I think they are also showing great pleasure, they are working with passion and with enthusiasm and that is the best thing for a manager."

Mourinho added: "I have in the same group the guys that were with me before, the players that came here after 2007 and a third group which is a very special one.

"The good part of not having the players from the Confederations Cup is that some kids have the chance to be with us training. I see that not just as a learning period for them and also as a good message for the other young players."

No need to talk about Kevin: Strootman's move to Roma is sorted claim PSV

New arrivals Van Ginkel, Andre Schurrle and Mark Schwarzer have been joined by the returning Romelu Lukaku, who has pledged to show he is ready to be a first-team contender at Chelsea.

The young Belgian striker scored 17 goals on loan at West Brom last term and said: "I am quicker and stronger, improved overall and that is a good sign.

"I over-achieved my targets for last season. Now it is up to me to do better this year. I want to improve as much as I can and be an important figure for this club."

I'm not sure we were really interested in the first place, if we were, I'm sure he would've preferred us over Roma.

Yeah totally agree with that man. I think Moyes has Fellaini pencilled in for the full-on DM area & he wants Fabregas as the "Scholesy all-rounder" type too. I'm happy with the type of player he's after to be honest - bitta steel & a bitta silk, to compliment Carrick's shit-hotness.. Gettin it sorted is another thing, but money talks & it doesnt have to friggin drag on so long either!

I can understand we're aiming a bit higher for a more established player than Kevin.

Good Luck.

I'm not sure we were really interested in the first place, if we were, I'm sure he would've preferred us over Roma.

Yep. Thats exactly right. Was just making fun of the fact so many people were sure we were signing him when there was nothing reliable to back it up

Varela wasnt the safest choice

Was that not completed before Moyes actually took charge? It was as if we'd already decided on that signing before Moyes had any sort of say? As in, we'd identified the lad sometime during last season, but this was our first real opportunity to sign him?

Maybe. Will definitely be that way if it turns out we had that Garay agreement thats been talked about for 6 months or so.

Delighted he is not signing for us. Huge question marks about him and if united were ever truly interested, I assume they agreed he might not be good enough for us.

So he's set to join Roma?

"I'm really happy I'm finally here," he was quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport. "The negotiations went on a bit too long, but I'm finally a Roma player."
