Anyone feeling for the Strootman? He's getting all left out in the midst of Thiago and Isco

Ironic because he's that type of player that won't receive a great deal of credit because he goes about his business quietly. Will only receive good recognition when he'll score the odd goal, or has the type of season Carrick had last season which I don't think will happen again. He had to play the role of 6 centre midfielders really - played every game knowing he was our only hope. Now we're bringing options in, we won't need to rely totally on Carrick.

Why three? We'd have Thiago, Strootman, Carrick, Cleverley and games for Powell, Jones and Giggs.

It is yet to be seen whether Powell is ready for the first team or gets loaned out next season, Jones has a lot to learn before he can be used consistently and effectively in CM and at the moment he is a CB first a RB second and a CM/DM last and I wouldn't expect Giggs to start more than 10-15 games next season and still seems better on the wings for me despite his age.

Room for one more I'd say.

Anderson?

That's because you're all stupid. CM's are the new CB you simply can't have enough of them.
We can only really play 3 together, at most, you'd imagine. And we already have Carrick. If we sign The Stroot and that other Spanish/Brazilian/Italian dude you'd imagine they would be the three most likely to start, if we played three. Add in Cleverley and when are we going to play this third midfield signing?

That's not even taking Kagawa into consideration, who could well be used in a midfield three with Carrick and Alcantara/Strootman/Cleverley.

*Rubs the structure of the thread*

I'm sorry for leaving you old-friend. You won't let me down right? Not like that Thiago fella? :(
I'll be loyal to you Strooty from now on. Honest. Just give me another chance!

Twitter nor Redcafe cares if this deal happens or not. Lets get back to the Thiago thread people.

It would be a massive disappointment if we only buy Strootman this year in the CM position. He just doesn't get those muppet juices flowing.

I still care. Maybe not as much as the Thiago thread, but that's simply because I'm certain Strootman is joining us. I hope so anyway. I can't think of many out there that I'd prefer to replace Carrick with.

Is there anything to suggest we're going to sign him? We were linked last summer, since then not one of the British newspapers have mentioned him, all we've had is random nobodies on twitter speculating he's about to sign for us which inevitably comes to nothing...

Really? None of the British papers have reported anything on Strootman to United?

That is true. But for some reason, it has that De Gea feel. I just think the signing makes so much sense. Very similar to Carrick in a few years down the line when he'll be able to replace him.

Really, I have no idea. As you said, we haven't been linked with him since the Euros finished really - but I just think he's ours. Going into the tournament two years ago, I knew De Gea was ours. I had the same feeling this year.

Just hope we weren't doing an either/or thing and banking everything on Alcantara. This would still be a good signing if that one falls through. Would suck if we ended up with neither :(

De Gea was reported to have signed by both the major Spanish and British news outlets - and Fergie spoke about him in an interview as if the deal was all but done. That was followed by a strange couple of weeks during the u21s where half-hearted denials were made, and we had to wait for confirmation (which I think was put down to him waiting to switch agents).

This is not the case for Strootman.

We'd still need a signing of this ilk even if we land Thiago. If Carrick gets injured next season we're still screwed, Thiago or no Thiago.

I feel The Stroot might be needed in the coming days. Heal us, Oh great Stroot, man. Thiago hast deserted us and we suffer greatly. Place your safe, boring arms around us and hold us tight. Amen.

This lad could become one of the best midfielders in Europe. Next week. If the Thiago deal falls through.

Stop wasting precious forum-posts on this guy. Thiago just signed a United-shirt!!

That was my first though when I opened this. I've never seen Strootman play, but feck him when Thiago's on the agenda. The guy's a Spanish, Brazilian Italian for feck's sake.

So Cider says we're signing him, several media outlets say it's a done deal and no-one speaks about it for 2 days.

Still excited about this signing. There's not much to talk about with him because most of us already know what he brings to the table and there seems to be an air of certainty that we would be able to acquire him without much trouble. One problem with him though, is that he has the unfortunate problem of having the James Milner face disease.

That being said, I think this would be a really good signing by the club if it happens, as it shows that the people within the structure have enough foresight to see Carrick won't last forever, and he could have an impact right now too.

Aye, look I know very few people see this lad as being top drawer just yet, but if he comes here and gets the right development he could go a long way.
