If we are after pace and mobility, I read an article the other day in which Usain Bolt states he still harbours ambitions of playing for United. Reckons he's good enough too. Just wonder if he can do it on a cold, wet Tuesday night in Stoke.
As mentioned Kagawa or Rooney is the answer as we play pretty much 4-2-3-1 so the isn't always the need for a ACM just a AM playing behind the striker. However if we wanted the option of having a ACM for example to play a 4-3-3 then Cleverley(he has for England) and Giggs can play that role.
For christ's sake, you really are a bunch of cnuts, I never said I was right about every player, I wanted us to sign Ben Arfa and there's been plenty more I've been wrong about, that was just the players I had seen play before they arrived that I didn't think were right for United, some would say Berbatov and Young have been pretty good for us. god forbid anyone have a different opinion though.
Gay meltdown.
Meh 5/10
I'll second this. We should also say that Carrick has broken both his legs and won't be available this season.
If we're playing a 4-2-3-1... we only need a Carrick or a Strootman playing at one time, what we do need is a silky ball player in the middle who can dictate the play from deeper areas so the likes of Kagawa don't have to drop so deep to recieve the ball. Cleverley and Giggs are frankly not the answer - not if we want to be one of the best teams at keeping possession and going toe to toe with other top sides in midfield... Thiago (potentially)and Gundogan are a different class as centre-mids.
There are many different ways to play 4-2-3-1 I prefer the way where you have a deep lying playmaker (Carrick) alongside a ball winning CM with good technical ability (Strootman) then a player playing just behind the striker in a free role as AM (Kagawa) behind a mobile main striker (RVP) this version works best for me because you shouldn't need a AM/ACM dropping deep to dictate play as Carrick can already do this in the DLP role then you have Strootman who already has good short passing ability so there so be no need for more creativity from deep and the stability from both which are primarily defensive roles allows Kagawa to do whatever he likes in the final 3rd of dropping just behind the striker.
That for me is the way that our current formation would work best without the need adding a ACM or central midfielder who is overly offensive. You then have the added bonus of knowing that you have Rooney, Welbeck, Cleverley, Young and Giggs can cover for Kagawa in that role as well as Cleverly and Giggs being able to play the deeper version of that role.
You are right neither of them are anywhere near Gundogan or Thiago but i would argue that that role isnt as essential as having a ball winning CM who can play a bit alongside Carrick. During last season we struggled for long stretches to get the ball back off the opposition for long stretches due to the lack of a CM grafter. I don't think we had a problem with creativity it was more a ball wining issue that needs taking care of.
As good as Carrick was last year, he's not a deep lying playmaker who can dictate the tempo of games against say a midfield of Barca or Bayern's class. His best games have usually come up against Italian teams where they've afforded him alot of time and space. We need someone in there with greater technical ability and a potential Scholes level talent, if we want to take our game to the next level. You can't have 2 quite defensive-minded mid's of that nature (it'll work against Prem teams but will be found out in Europe), you're not going to keep the ball against the best sides as there is a lack of mobility and ability to carry the ball in the midfield.
Strootman plus a gifted player will be excellent midfield business, Strootman alone.. will just be a little improvement but not enough in my opinion.

How can we be sure it actually says "Manchester" though?
Yeah, but who wrote it is the important question........
What? The wingers were widely regarded as shite this year and we shipped way more goals than we have in previous seasons.
Away and wank in there then.Does anyone else feel slightly ever so disappointed and angry when they see this above the Thiago thread?
Can anyone actually see us signing both Strootman and Thiago? I can't. Both would be expecting to start the majority of games these days, and along with Carrick - we'd have 3 expecting starters. I can't see us going to a 4-3-3 formation, or a 4-2-3-1 with Thiago playing as the advanced midfielder.
I'm starting to think we'll only sign one of them - and even though I'd want Thiago more, I'd say this one is more likely to happen.
