Kevin Strootman

His leadership skills must be extremely inpressive for his age considering some of the more senior players in that squad.

Yep. I've seen him give Van Bommell a bollocking a few times.

Assuming he does come here, I think he will be Carrick's backup. Carrick was in imperious form last season. So much so, a lot of United fans were concerned what would happen if he got injured. Now it looks like we have someone in place to give Carrick rest so we dont depend on him in every game and hopefully an able replacement when he retires.

Not saying, one way or the other, that Strootman is one, but can anyone think of any midfielders similar to Martinez - an all-rounder (good engine, passing ability, can tackle, comfy in possession) with presence and, crucially, gettable.
I ask here as some say Strootman is one.
Annoyingly, one that sprang to mind is Pogba.

Absolutely. The good thing about Kevin is that he can easily play the entire season without a one, serious injury in more than one role. He'll be ready not only to play Carrick's style but also the whole box-to-box thing, when Ando or Clev will get injured (I hope not).

Tactically, it's safe bet as the player is already experienced through complete season in the club and international appearances. Also, the price shouldn't be that high.

There are few but not many have mentality to play in United and there's also fact that almost all of them are not really available, at the moment.

You should change your name to the riddler.. I just wanted a straight answer not a scrambled discription of what you ment. But no you didnt disagree with me just questioned what did i know from 2 games.

I'll dumb it down for you next time as subtlety really doesn't seem to be your thing. I very much disagreed with you. My bewilderment wasn't at how anyone can say he lacks strength based on any 2 games, but 2 specific games in which he had no problems in that regard. On the contrary, he knocked others around. I think there are better options out there but if we do sign him his strength will be the least of my worries.

He's not knocking anyone around. His myth grows again

In the 2 matches I've seen him play he's been much closer to dominating physically than he has been to struggling. He's won more battles than he's lost and he twice had Germans rolling around on the floor in the opening game. That's no myth, Mcfeckwit, so shove your arrogant assumptions up your ring piece. Is he less imposing at senior level? Perhaps, I wouldn't know.

Thank you. I'z iz realz happy you explained yow self!!

I still think he will need to improve his upper body strength. Like I explained early playing in the Premier League a very big step up physically to that of the Eredivisie.

I might as well add my opinion to the mix. I should admit that the countless youtube videos aside Ive seen him play in two full matches. While not the finished article Im surely not the only one who thinks he's actually quite elegant on the ball? Despite being built like a wardrobe he gets things moving quickly and seemingly accurately as well as being a more than competent dribbler. I see some similarities with carrick but not entirely. The dribbling for one is something he seems quite good at and im not sure why people say he's slow? Big yes, but he's not slow. He also doesnt at all look afaid to get "stuck in".

The most important thing to realise is that buying a big name player doesnt win you trophies as real madrid prove year in year out. you buy players to fit the team. strootman would add a nice balance and as i say while not there yet at all, i really think i see all the tools to become a very well rounded midfielder. anderson has all the talent we could dream of but not the application or discipline, or fitness. strootman would be an immediate step up i think.

Hopefully he's more mature at senior level than you are. He's not dominating anyone physically

Good points SER19. I think the point about being the right fit is key. Bayern is the epitome of a team who may not have the best individual players but they certainly are a cohesive unit.

Missed the first half of the U21s v Italy - see that Holland dominated possession. Guess it must be at least somewhat down to Strootman :)

Thus far in this game he's looked like the most natural successor to Carrick one could reasonably ask for. Incredible composure at both ends of the field.

Playing against a Caf favourite in Verrati no less.

Yup. Thus far Strootman coming out well on top. You get the feeling Strootman is the type that wouldn't be phased at all by the EPL, based both on his raw physicality and apparent mentality.

As I type this Strootman ruins Insigne, I'm starting to quite like this guy.

Well to be fare the Dutch league isn't the strongest so he probably does brush off a few challenges. Either way I actually said early that he had a decent game against the Russians however he is not a strong player. Would defo need to get on the weights if he came here.

When people say that, I don't think they are actually referring to the average strength of the players.

Based purely on this one performance I think he'd work work well with carrick, especially away from home, with the two of them being a solid holding pairing to let rest do their thing. Also think he could hold to let carrick push on further or vice versa as well as stand in when Carrick needs a rest. I like what I've seen in this game.

Let's hope we get it done. No more delays.

Controlled the midfield nicely today. Unspectacular but very disciplined and intelligent, peach of a left foot.

I liked him today. First time I watched him and I didn't pay much attention, but I sanction the transfer.

Ok, having now seen 3 of his games, I'd like to revise my previous opinion of Stroot. He's clearly pretty decent - smart; good positioning; box to box; fast, accurate, consistent passing. He's not Ronaldinho, but I can see why we're interested.

The one game I haven't watched:(

If we do sign him I sincerely hope he does well, hopefully the games I saw were just a brief dip in form.
