Kevin Strootman

People were saying that he was expensive and not all that. Actually he only won over the majority of the fans last season. I remember he was slaughtered in 10/11.

It is bizarre to take the odds being slashed as 'We have signed the player'. Usually I take 'Club has announced we have signed the player' as 'we have signed the player'...

But each to their own I guess.

With United - I wouldn't even take "Club has announced" as proof that we have signed a player!

Stories based on SkyBet odds happen every summer, and usually with United and Liverpool. Wasn't Ribery to Liverpool such a story? Thats how crazy it is. The way it drives publicity for Skybet almost seems planned....

I think the transfer forum should have a disclaimer post that is stickied:
- Anything from the Daily Star is bullshit
- Anything based on Skybet odds is bullshit

I was told he was a done deal around January time, by a friend who was informed by a Liverpool ITK, who was "told by a club source"* that they were interested in Strootman but were turned down because he was "going to United".

I know nothing about him, but if Liverpool were interested am I right to be concerned?

* I feel this makes my info at least as reliable as Twitter.

There aren't enough stupid 'punters' in the world who will drop enough cash to move the odds on the mere fact that they are excited by a rumour.

With Skybet that isn't always true. I think the Ribery to Liverpool story, with Skybet slashing the odds so drastically, hinged on one bet of less than £500, or something daft.

Looks shopped as feck to me.

I can't see that ever happening. Is it even possible to do? i'd be stunned if anyone was able to post the pics here, like in a post one above yours. Stunned.

Well, i posted right after the pic appeared, so i didn't see it. Do you want me to delete my post if it so bothers you?

I wasn't aware he was part of the U-21 squad for the Euro 2013, but he is so I guess he's in Israel now or will be shortly.

The question is what information prompted the betting surge? Most likely an image of Strootman's face was seen in a cloud hanging over Old Trafford.
noodlehair once saw a cloud shaped like Wayne Rooney's neck.

I think Strootman would be a good signing, but that's just based on the descriptions of him, so my opinion isn't worth much here.

Cool name. And he looks a bit like a slightly grumpy combination of Van Persie and Carrick.

I'm a bit annoyed that my ITK post has basically been ignored. If that's the way you lot are going to be i'll never bring you any more ITK stuff from my mate who knows a Liverpool ITK who hears things from "club sources".

Thank the lord for that.

Fair enough, it's obviously not guaranteed but odds are obviously a decent indicator of the likelihood of a rumour being true.

Moyes wasn't the obvious candidate considering even the majority of people on the Caf thought Mourinho and Klopp were better candidates. Even if we thought he was the obvious candidate, the slashing of the odds helped confirm his signing.

As for your last statement, I'm not sure if you're being intentionally dense or what, but I'll explain: betting odds can, at times, be a good indicator as to the truthfulness of a rumour, no one is saying that the club will sign a player because the of the odds being slashed.

Actually he was the obvious candidate given we were unlikely to go after either of those two, even if they are better managers. It was obvious that if we went for a premier league manager, it'll be David Moyes.

There is nothing whatsoever to suggest that this guy would be our first target of the summer

How was it unlikely we would go for those other two? The only people who knew for sure were on the board, you and I were just assuming.

We know about as much definitive information about this transfer as the signing of Moyes or any other player transfer - which means none. That being said, I actually never said we are going to sign this player, merely that the development of betting odds "can, at times, be a good indicator as to the truthfulness of a rumour."

It was always going to be Moyes.

Mourinho said in England he's blue. Shock, horror, he's going to Chelsea. Klopp wasnt even linked with us.

Everyone and their dog knew it was going to be Moyes. The rest was wishful thinking

Kevin who? Oh that guy that 95% of people talking in this thread have only seen on youtube.

So does anyone rate him?

I rate him based on his tactical abilities as he could easily fit into United's system.

Box-to-box is only one of his option. He can also play more restricted role like Carrick.

That move could be also good thing for Jones, who would have a chance to finally focus more on defensive functions in the team and start progressing as a defender.

“For PSV it would be good if he stays, but for Strootman himself it’s better to leave,”

“He’s the reserve captain of the Dutch national squad and PSV will make another step next season.

“This guy fits everywhere. He’s a fantastic player because he knows exactly what his qualities are.”

Dick Advocaat.

This will happen. Personally, this is the "De Gea" or the "Kagawa" deal of this Summer. I see this as a nailed on move. This has been going on since December really. It's been quiet, but consistent mummerings.

Has anyone else even been linked to him? For a player with seemly so much attributes and potential, i would be have thought there would be load of clubs in for him but have heard anyone other then us?

*he says, before he signs for (insert any team other then United)*
