Kevin Strootman

Every so often I have a gut feeling about a player that they will become a star. That feeling about a player rarely lets me down, and I have that gut feeling about Strootman.

Does anybody think he could be a realistic target this Summer? It's a bonus that the Dutch players tend to do well at United and I wouldn't put it past Fergie to exploit that.

I read someone on Twitter saying he's like Robin van Persie but in midfield. Technically very good.

I can see several big clubs interested, us included. If we lose Scholes and Fletch, I can see Fergie making a move for him.

I feel we will go for a player like him regardless of the status of Scholes and Fletch. for Scholes is as good as retired and Fletcher needs to be replaced in the long term.

I'm not falling into the trap of thinking "of course now we HAVE to strengthen the midfield" again. We'll probably give de Gea a shot there before we buy again.

PSV Eindhoven boss Dick Advocaat believes Kevin Strootman will leave at the end of the season.

Strootman has been linked with Manchester United, Manchester City and Everton this year.

"For PSV it would be good if he stays, but for Strootman himself it's better to leave," Advocaat told De Telegraaf.

"He's the reserve captain of the Dutch national squad and PSV will make another step next season. This guy fits everywhere. He's a fantastic player because he knows exactly what his qualities are.

"[He would be good for] Liverpool and Tottenham, but I think he's also good enough for Manchester City and Manchester United.

"Strootman is as good as Gareth Barry. He's a very useful player for every team. Especially when he's surrounded by better players."

The Dutch Gareth Barry? Kinda takes the blood out of your nob.

I'm hoping he's just trying to put people off with that description.

This said, Moyes will likely have his own targets in mind. He's played against our midfield this season and the lack of top class options beyond Carrick must have been very obvious to him.

So Avocado likens him to Barry and suddenly a bunch of web muppets are turned off. Hilariously idiotic stuff.

I've wanted him for a while. Would be perfect for us. I initially thought he was a Carrick type of player, but he can drive from midfield too and has scored some nice goals, as well as controlling the midfield.

I have a few Dutch friends who actively watch the Eredivisie, and they think he'd be a fine midfield choice for United.

Name: Kevin Strootman
Qualities: Good as Gareth Barry
ID picture: Ryan Giggs

One of tribalfootball's finer moments.

What impresses me most about him is his driving runs forward from midfield, which is something we're sorely lacking. He has a cracking shot on him too and would certainly add some goals from midfield, which again, we've lacked this season.

If he's available, I think we'll be hovering.

I think now with Moyes in charge, if we wanted a 'destroyer' in CM, he would sign his man Fellaini. But that's obviously based on nothing other than guesswork. And it's probably a stretch to call Strootman a 'destroyer' but I know what I mean.

A bit like 95% of the web muppets who put his name in every transfer thread want hm because of the Youtube video they watched.

Never seen him have a good game in the 10+ appearances I've seen of him. Although if the consensus on here is that's a good signing maybe I'm catching all the wrong games. Or maybe those who think he's good have only seen a Youtube video.

He was so much more appealing when he was the Dutch Roy Keane. Gareth Barry ? Do not want anymore. :wenger:

If he continue like this he'll soon be Dutch Scott Parker.

And don't ever forget that Barry is better than Alonso.

Surely he was just pointing out that if Gareth Barry could get games at City then Strootman could too because he's at least as good as him. I didn't read it as a straight comparison.

Yeh. Watch him quite a bit. He's more of (Spurs) Carrick lite, capable of playmaking, good going forward, a bit slow, and not really get 'stuck in'. But he's still young (23), physically and technically good, and seems like a decent fella.

Prefer somebody with a more flamboyant name to he honest

Well I have read the thread and I am still none the wiser as to what this guy offers?

Can any of the muppets explain why he is near the top of everyones wishlist and what are his attributes?

He is initially dubbed the Dutch Roy Keane, then I have seen others say he doesn't get stuck in and is slow.

I think United need someone quite mobile in the middle of the park to compliment Carrick, so drive, engine and bursts of pace are rather important.

I would quite like someone to actually be able to cover for Carrick as well. If this guy can do it I'm happy with that.

He's the dutch Gareth Barry so hopefully City sign him...Strootman will never come here considering the Fellaini deal is done and dusted i'd imagine.and Fellaini is probably a much better player and proved PL quality

Carrick light? Do not want if that's the case.

A midfield 3 of Carrick Strootman and Kagawa would feel very German for some reason. The 2 defensive minded CMs complimented by the attacking short tricky player ahead of them.

Check out the random twitter thread, there is some speculation we are on the verge of signing a CM.

Really? Oh well I meant tears of joy anyway.

In fact I've never seen anything of this guy nor have I ever heard of him until we were linked with him.
