Kevin De Bruyne

It looks like contact to me and even if there wasn't most footballers would go down in the situation. A defender has to know better since the ref will call that 95% of the time.

Regardless of whether players would do it or not isn't the point here. The point is it was blatant simulation and embarrassing. Was embarrassing when Herrera did similar against them too. It's just not needed and literally the worst part of the modern game.

I get more annoyed about poor defending and that was poor defending no matter how you slice it and it was rightly punished

Well many players see the big two in Spain as the ultimate goal....so hopefully he does?

It’s hardly unrealistic

I completely agree that it is entirely plausible. The thing is I often see fans of all the top clubs in England weary of the top players leaving for Spain but apart from Cristiano Ronaldo going to Madrid, I cant recall too many instances of an elite player, leaving an elite EPL team, against said clubs wishes, to join one of the two big Spanish teams. Suarez, Bale, etc all left for teams that were superior. While I feel it is important to be cognizant of the Barcas and Madrids taking a teams best player, to automatically assume that a player is destined for those two teams is strange, especially if the player is already at an elite club or playing in an elite team. It just feels like a weird inferiority complex fans of the top EPL teams have

I find it has more to do with the leagues - for a large period Barcelona & Madrid utilised each other to bring the best out of each other & compete for the best players. Then for a year or 2 Bayern & Dortmund did the same with each other & could have got pretty much whoever they wanted & then it came back to Barcelona & Madrid.

The way things are going - the next league is definitely the EPL. Unbelievable managers, a whole list of top teams & players even at the most ridiculous clubs; the chances of many players leaving this league to Barcelona & Madrid is not as high in my opinion because as clubs they are on a relatively subtle downward spiral as is their league in general including their players. I doubt a player who is on the verge of their peak is going to jump ship to play with Ronaldo for a season compared to playing with the likes of Sane & Jesus for example

Well said!

People used to try to link Aguero to Barca and Real for years. Nothing came to fruition it will probably be the same for De Bruyne.

To be fair, neither came calling because, at the time they didn't need him.

Things are quite a bit different at both clubs these days.

Thats not to say they'll come for KDB, but it would be interesting to see what'll happen if they do.

See if Pep and his team cheated wherever they go, why doesn't Zlatan expose it? He's worked under Pep, he hates Pep and he plays for Pep's biggest rivals.

How many people would treat Zlatan's claims as credible versus it just being someone who hates Pep and plays for their biggest rivals?

I actually agree with the point you're making but that's the rebuttal I guess.

Uh, not that I buy into any of this, but the reason is kind of obvious.

Self incrimination. Besides, if there is doping, and there is, it's not a Pep issue, it's a almost everyone issue.

They would reject the bid and give De Bruyne more money

second best player in the world behind Messi. easily.
Based on performances and influence I’d deBryne is the best bar none so far this season. CL and World Cup will determine the rest of season and Balon D’Or

The players trust the doctors. They get injected with all sorts. I would be interested to see what KDB’s work rate stats were like before Pep arrived. He is playing like a player possessed at the moment.

He's nowhere near being the best player in the world. It's not even close and he was on a series of bad games before yesterday where he looked very tired.

I'm not sure what games people here have been watching, a few weeks ago people were saying the same kind of things about Isco and now he's about to be dropped to the bench. You don't become one of the best in the world after 10 games of good form and that hasn't even been the case with De Bruyne.

He's had more assists than any other player in the top 5 leagues over the last 5 years and is assisting at a much better rate than anyone else in the history of the PL. And he is a big game player too: assisted the first two goals vs Liverpool, scored the winner vs Chelsea away, scored the first goal vs Arsenal, scored vs Spurs, assisted goals vs Napol too, etc. He's been a top player for a while.

It’s a bit of a recency bias. People change their tune accordingly. But I wouldn’t say he is nowhere near. He is definitely part of a group of players who have been playing at a very high level throughout the season. So he is definitely in the debate right now. The fact that Kdb is a bit of a clutch in big matches (apart from against United) helps as well.

I've rewatched it and saw almost no contact at all, the defender missed KDB, KDB jumped over the defender and planted his feet on the ground, was literally no contact I could see at all. It was a dive.

Edit: watch at 4:47 - it was a dive.

Clear dive. It's even more ridiculous considering how superior they are atm. Barcelona did the same.

No doubt he's a top player, best in the Premier League so far this season but the likes of Salah, Hazard, Eriksen, Kane or Silva have been just slightly below.

He's a joy to watch when he's on but people claiming he's the best player in the world are pushing it way too far.

The best he ain't for me. Maybe top 5.

There's a reason Madrid & Barca have never come after a City player in all these arab years @Bojan11... they are shit scared City will respond by Neymar-ing them.

Or because they haven’t needed one. Silva would never have got in the Barca or Madrid team nor would have Aguero. Yaya was sold by Barca.

And Neymar wanted to leave. If City ever do that you do realise they have to convince the player to leave also. Neymar also isn’t happy at PSG. I’m sure this was a ploy by him to move to Madrid.

iirc, Aguero was publicly wanted by Real, and they were punked.

Why would you want to go to Real or Barca if you were KDB? Both sides are in transition and currently lesser teams than City.

Also Pep is proving what a top class manager he is, I wouldn’t want to miss out on what City could and probably will achieve under Pep if I was KDB.

Outstanding player that Chelsea must be kicking themselves that they let him go. I'm sure if you read the Chelsea forums, they probably weren't that many bothered too at that time. Trust me the lack of patience in football can come back and bite you hard on the backside.

any other angles of the dive? So far it looks like a clear dive.

also: can you get banned when your team is not taking advantage of the situation i.e missed the penalty?

Definite penalty. Not sure how red tinted specs can even say it wasnt. Was the same with the Pogba red card. You still had people coming on here saying it wasnt a red as it wasnt deliberate. Ridiculous .

It was a dive but there was a slight contact, I don't think he'll get banned.

He completely manufactured the “contact” by leaving a leg there. He had no reason whatsoever to place his trailing leg there.

"The brilliant Belgian ran further than anyone else on the pitch - 12.09 kilometres - while nobody made more high-intensity sprints. Talent and effort."

Ive been watching this league for 20 odd years. I tell you one thing- that kind of out put is not sustainable over a long period of time.
I dont want to go for doping remarks but thats fishy.
