Kevin De Bruyne

I will admit that I thought it was idiotic to play in a deeper midfield role. I thought he was too direct to play deeper. I do not know anything

I think most people thought that (myself included) when he played their at times last season he looked lost. I always thought KDB would stay high and Silva would drop in but it's been completely the opposite.

No, KDB is the heart of the team. Against us everything went through KDB, not Silva.

KDB can cover for Silva's absence, but Silva wouldn't be able to cover for KDB's absence.

Silva was far better against us, KDB had a pretty poor game in the derby. He did play a few long balls over the top near the end, but he was making poor decisions and his passing was quite sloppy for most of it.

Brilliant player no doubt about that, also the reason why city are so good.
On another note was that a dive to win the penalty?

Looked like a dive tbh.

cnut on a mission. Gets clattered on the ankle one minute, sped away the next hammering in a goal with his left. Clutches big matches like it’s nothing.

Herrera was not a good signing for the levels we aim for, Falcao was more Woodward than van Gaal, he sold Di Maria and Martial was the only good signing.

Not going Galactico is the reason we signed so much dross. When we went "galactico", we actually signed some great players like Pogba, Di Maria and perhaps Martial (considering his fee was high for his age). We need to do more of this galactico stuff and hang on to the players rather than selling them in one season (AdM).
We are literally being swindled out of money by others for bang average players whereas the dirty rich Sheiks buy players like Gundogan, B. Silva, Gabriel Jesus, Sane etc dirt cheap and completely under the radar. The galactico approach will never work. What we need to do first is to find a particular style of playing and sign players who will be good in those systems instead of buying 1-2 100-150m players every season.

He showed some tremendous things today. And in general David Silva is and has been comfortably as good a player as De Bruyne, that's the worst part for me. When I saw them being favourites for the Champions League at the bookies I thought that was a bitch much at the time, and I still think that's a bit of an overestimation. But the form they're in is unreal.

Think he is better than Lampard and Gerrard. Has to win something big though.

I thought City would buy another deep lying midfielder to free up De Bruyne. And I wondered what the plan was when they didn't.

They had Mancini, who bought their core. He was good in the transfer market. When they had Pellegrini, they weren't as good and bought some duds like Bony, but Pelle got Sterling and Otamendi for them, and I believe de Bruyne was a club signing. Now, Guardiola bought Sane, Ederson, etc.

We had two nitwits as managers who couldn't scout worth a darn. Mourinho has bought reasonably well, with Pogba being the standout. So give it time.

Seemed off the pace today - passing not as effective as usual either. Stands to reason I suppose, given the amount of energy he expends and the amount of football he's played but dunno, just expected a bit more really.

As for the people questioning why we didn't sign De Bruyne in the first place, somehow I don't think he will look this good hoofing it up to Lukaku.

De Bruyne is an extraordinary player no questions about it but the movement of his teammates is insane, every time he gets the ball there are like 3-5 passing options.

That's true of all of City's players. Because they have a great manager.

People here usually do not give those two enough credit but, they both never played on the level De Bruyne is playing right now.
That's just not true IMO. De Bruyne is great but Gerrard and Lampard are household names for a reason, both were fantastic players at their peak and both won a CL too.

I have rated De Bruyne since his loan at Werder Bremen but, as a #10 or inside forward never expected him to be this.

I think even Pep would be lying if he said he expected him to be as good as he has been. Impossible to see see it coming imho, Always thought he'd be a very good borderline world class no.10 but never thought there'd be a time where I could say he's on a par with Hazard (possibly better this season) as the league best player.

I know we're only in December but if he continues like this it'll be hard to see past him for POTY. Salah has been great at scoring goals for Liverpool but this guy is doing that and so much more.

He makes all his team mates and opponents look average compared to him

I've only seen Messi and Zidane being able to do that

Truly a special player

Well, he looked quite good hoofing it up to Bas Dost..

Very uneducated post there. He was wonderful in the Bundesliga as well.

He's been very good for City from the off, but I thought he looked a bit soft when he first came back to England. He's developed a real bit of toughness about him now, and his work rate has come leaps and bounds. He's everywhere in the press, and he never shies away from getting clattered. No idea how he keeps it up for the full 90.

Better than Maradona in his prime

As good as Messi

More talented than Pele

Sorry boys and girls, I thought extreme hyperbole was what we were supposed to do in this thread?

He was our player of the season just last year. I find it strange when posters willingly change the past to suit their point. Is he De Bruyne? No. But he’s a capable midfielder who compliments the squad well.

Falcao was ‘Galactico’ as was Di Maria who seems to be making a habit of imploding. Rashford was brought through the ranks and is a key player to us. It’s not about only signing big names, it’s about signing the right players. For the last 4 years we’ve had no cohesion. We have a mismatch pool of players compiled by several very different managers, and until we give a manager time to imprint their style onto the team, or replace outgoing managers with stylistically similar ones, we will see the same error repeated. Hopefully we will see Mourinho here for at least 4 years.

I don't get that from him. Silva and Sané don't look below his level whenever I watch them, which isn't that often.

Never mentioned Scholes and I stand by my original point that Lampard and Gerrard never played as well as De Bruyne is playing this season.

My bad...somehow I read Scholes in your reply....Lampard and Gerrard couldn't spot a pass the way De Bruyne is doing now.
