Kevin De Bruyne

I think Mourinho doesn't care much about young talent because he knows he never will be long enough at a club to nourish a world class talent over 3-4 season to become a world class player. He is a manager that is known for getting results right away so if a young player can't perform to the standards he needs from them to be instantly successful he won't get much chances. It's not ideal for the club but it helps Mourinho to deliver trophies wherever he goes.

Money well spent by City. They've spent lots of money on the right players. We've spent lots of money on the wrong players.
City have spent more money on "wrong players" than any other club in the past 15 years.

I'd say that accolade might go to Chelsea.

However, their record over the last 2-3 years is reaping benefits now.

how about record over the past 13 years? they have been the most successful in England
You can still waste money on transfers and be successful.

This wasn't the initial point anyway, and not relative to this thread.

All Chelsea's own fault. If you only keep your managers for 2-3 years they aren't going to take a long term view. Why should they?
With de Bruyne, no 'long term view' was required. He was performing at a world class level immediately in Bundesliga, and was exactly the kind of player Chelsea was missing when they had to go for Pedro. It was a blunder by Mourinho not to recognize and use his quality, plain and simple.

As terrible a decision to let KDB go it was just as bad for United not to compete for his signature.

Yet Fat Frank was doing it for several seasons KDB has just started delivering consistently in one third of a season. Agree KDB looks top drawer so far..........
KdB has been delivering for a long time. He won German player of the season in Bundesliga and then has been nothing but excellent for City. He’s getting more focus now because he’s having more impact on the game from a deeper role, which he’s only just been asked to play in, but in his AM role he’s been more productive than any other AM since joining the PL.

They've spent over 500 million in the past 5 transfer windows. About 150m more than United have. They've bought some good players for that money. Whoop dee doo.

Pretty sure De Bruyne’s girlfriend cheated on him with Courtois which is probably one of the reasons he wanted to leave on top of the Mourinho criticism.

On that note, not sure what Mourinho’s issues were with Mata and KDB at the time. He opted to play a Ramires/Lampard pivot before signing Matic which wasn’t bad, but it could have been better. He put all his eggs on Oscar and the guy turned out to be a fraud.

Also what the heck was the Willian deal about? Signed him last minute from Anzhi that same summer even though we had 10+ midfielders, including Van Ginkel. I’m still convinced Willian was signed as a favor to Roman’s friend at Anzhi who desperately needed the money, think they were going bankrupt — Eto’o was signed that summer too. Really these backroom deals are pretty strange.

What Mourinho should have done was build the team around Hazard, De Bruyne and Lukaku. He could have scooped up multiple trophies by now.

You took Willian off Spurs in the last minute.

It's often forgotten that kdb was quite brilliant on his loan to Werder Bremen, a team that struggled quite badly. Despite being on a loan he was their best player and put in more effort than any other player.

At least Hazard and De Bruyne even if he felt Costa was better than Lukaku. He seems to need players to be ready which was I guess was part of the problem.

I remember people were drooling at the possibility of signing him back then. So it was clearly a case of a player who was close to being brilliant prior to his move away from Chelsea. You have to be patient with great attacking talents. There's a certain level of patience and love that must go along with rational and logic. If we used to that with young Ronaldo, or other big young talents, I'm sure they wouldn't end up as the big successes they did.

The only people who believe City are a sustainable business is City fans. This should tell you everything you need to know.

As already stated, apart from impartial experts in football finance who also believe this too, which tells you everything you need to know about rival fans on the internet peddling this hackneyed cliche.

This is up there with your comment in the meltdown thread that City fans are only talking of boycotting matches so as to make excuses for empty seats and that they’ll be doing it for PL matches soon as well. I know literally hundreds of City fans and not a single one has ever spoken of boycotting a game due to a perceived slight/agenda against the club. The way you go on about it, you make it out like it’s some kind of orchestrated campaign where thousands of fans are suddenly going to start bailing out of matches - in the middle of a fantastic run of form I’ll hasten to add - when in reality it’s a few isolated comments on a forum with tens of thousands of members - comments that alluded to the Carabao Cup draw being fixed which were also echoed by United fans on here funnily enough. By the way, I’ll have you know that the attendance at our League Cup 4th round match against Wolves was 50,755 - our second highest home gate in the League Cup ever. Some boycott that.

Glad we agree.

I feel like De Bruyne is one of those players that just transcends football rivalries. Although it's rational to dislike City, I find it really hard to dislike De Bruyne.

Easily one of my favourite players in the league, and I tune in to City games solely to watch him. Would love him at United.

Makes all the other players around him look average at times.

I've only seen Messi being able to do that

Nice try :) This was mainly due to Wolves bringing a massive away following due to you lowering ticket prices.

I was implying in my earlier post that you were going to start using the boycott excuse to explain away the empty seats at PL matches. Most Blues on here seem happy with the traffic, or fans on holiday excuse ATM though.

Come on. If De Bruyne does that, surely the likes Neymar and Ronaldo often do that as well or have done so in the past?

Wolves brought just over 6000 so there were still over 44000 City inside the ground. Scunthorpe and Huddersfield have brought more in the past.

Simple fact is you’re clutching at straws by pre-empting something before it’s happened. You sound like namco who was banned for constantly trolling City fans on here. Hmmmmm.....

No definitely not. He controls the whole game and everything seems to go through him at times.

Incredible player to watch in full flow

It helps that he has so many talented and intelligent players around him and he's able to see exactly what's going on ahead of him and he's able to dictate the tempo...he's currently City's Paul Scholes in that manner.

The cup finale against Dortmund was something else. At one point it looked as if he just decided he would win and just went with it. He was the whole finale. Anyone else was just some bystander.
While we‘ll unfortunately never see Messi play for a really shitty team, KDB at Wolfsburg was the closest we‘ll get to see what would happen. He elevated that team into heights they should have never reached.

Not sure he's ever made David Silva look average. I know where your coming from though.
Seems he's about to extend his contract with talks about to start.

Many great players in the EPL, but those who actually manage to perform in the big games are few and far between.

He's tiring.

Some players are irreplaceable, but Guardiola has to be able to compensate without De Bruyne so he can get some rest every now and then. Gundogan still seems to be finding his feet coming back from injury.

I hope that useless cnut Martinez doesn't rest him for his bald friend. cnut played Fellaini and Lukaku when they were injured.

Argh truly a game changing player. No player in recent times I'm more gutted about losing out on. Having Silva as well is just cheating.

Brilliantin big games. Like drogba. Always shows up in the big games. No frills just goes about his business.

Imagine difference in our side if we had him in the no10 position man I would love that.

Think the whole team looked a little tired today actually, quite fortunate we weren’t made to work that hard off the ball. The Napoli game was a lot of effort and 9 of the same team played. Some time off would be a godsend during internationals. Wishful thinking though.

the most decisive player in the league ...scores the important goals.. or the assist ... the best in the league surely

Thought he was off today, missed a lot of easy passes, easily sold himself for the Arsenal goal, yet he still got himself a cracking goal and the most important one of the day at that.
Agree with this, didn’t think he was great today by his own standards. Still had an impact on the game though. Thought he looked a bit tired. Hope Belgium give the lad a rest...

Agree, I thought his calf had gone around the 85th min, hopefully only a bit of cramp
