Kevin De Bruyne

As good as he is, he has the smack of a flat track bully and a good one at that who will make the difference against the small teams. But he was very poor against Chelsea last game. Missed a chance that would put even Torres to shame

KDB was MOM vs Barcelona and United. Since when are United a small team?

I think he's world class and arguably the best player in the league. He'd walk into every other side.

Annoyed that we never even attempted to go in for him. He was such an obvious signing.

For further proof check his performance against Bayern when Wolfburg beat them 4:1. Excellent too in the Cup final vs Dortmund that year. Don't know how anyone can say he doesn't turn up against the big boys.

One missed sitter and suddenly he's a flat track bully that doesn't turn up in big games? OK...

I agree but think Pogba is better but both would have been nice.

Aside from the miss, he was City's best attacker by some distance. In the first half he put two absolute peaches of crosses (both times Fernandinho?) which should have resulted in at the very least one goal. The idea that he's just a flat track bully is dumb too. Any of the best players in the league get accused of this this at some point in their time.

He was their best attacker indeed, it was his team mates' ineptitude (especially Aguero's) that resulted in him getting no assists. Sure, his miss in the second half was atrocious but still he was their best player that day imo. He's got amazing crossing ability and that's probably not his best outlet.

Funny thing is, given this 'superstar Utd' approach that Woodward now has, it's not even unrealistic to say we could have had both, and add in Hazard when we missed out on him. Imagine all three:drool:. That's the type of quality we need to build toward.

1 miss and suddenly he isn't good anymore...he is still a cracking player but I do think he is too passive in terms of trying to force himself on the game.

I think he's a central player, not a winger. They should drop Gundogan and go back to that midfield that owned us.

----------Fernandinho
Silva --------------De Bruyne

One of the best in the league, and I thought he was good yesterday as well. Fantastic to watch, so silky! Would have loved to have him in our team, but I'm hoping that Pogba will turn out to be as influential for us as he is for City.

Looked anything but passive to me yesterday. He is top tier class and was driving force for City yesterday... blame should be laid squarely at defenders and Aguero for yesterday's loss.

Does anyone else think KDB looked leaner yesterday, even more dynamic on the ball than he usually is - I really do think Pep will bring him along to even further heights. Guys a beast.

He's being asked to play wider which doesn't showcase his talents. It doesn't matter how dynamic or poor his form is, he always has that ability to cross the ball but what's the point when it's Aguero in the middle?
City don't have enough goalscorers in their side, KDB is their best bet to supplement Aguero when he fails to score and he's just not doing it.

Hmm I think De Bruyne's influence decreased after his miss and that's something he should work on IMO.

We could easily have been talking the same about Pogba, Mkhi or Zlatan if we'd missed out on them and City had snapped them up.
KDB is really good, but I don't think he's the 'best player in the league'. Sanchez, Hazard are ahead, off the top of my head. This season, Costa has been better than him, too.

Costa has been the best player in the league this season, so I agree with you there. Sanchez and Hazard are in the same tier as KDB, definitely, and it's probably a matter of preference with regards to who you rate higher. For me, De Bruyne is better than both.

It probably is, yes.
This is KDB's first season, you look at what Hazard and Sanchez have done over the last few years (maybe not last year), and I think KDB still has lots of ground to cover and points to prove.

We can agree to disagree, here.

It's KDB's second season in the PL for City.

He's a terrific player. People are a tad trigger happy with jumping aboard the bottler/overrated bandwagon.

Like Manchester United and Barcelona.

Everyone at their best, hes top 5, but not the best IMO. For me it would be:
  1. Hazard
  2. Sanchez
  3. Aguero
  4. Pogba
  5. De Bruyne
In terms of combining their ability with physicality and pace/playmaking in the level of a one off performance. Rest of the top 10 would probably be like Coutinho, Ozil, Mkhitaryan, possibly and costa Ibra (in any order).... not sure who else. Martial can get into the level of Hazard and Sanchez I think once he develops his decision making and off the ball movement more (and consistency). The rest are all capable though of basically doing everything on their own and really carrying teams. Have all the ability in the world on the ball, while miki and de bruyne are incredibly 2 footed while being able to go past players as well as be really consistent with their playmaking and be hard to contain.

Reason KDB isnt top for me is that he just isnt as talented on the ball or as explosive as Hazard/sanchez/aguero. He might have consistency and decision making over them, but at his best you can still contain him kind of. Hazard or Sanchez at their best can basically go past an entire team on their own and score.

Like Manchester United and Barcelona.
Did we play like a top team though? Our players played midtable level football that day. That gave him a chance to shine. He was neutralized by Rojo against a weaker United last season.

As for Barcelona, I bet any of the top 4 in the Premier League can get at that midfield consisting of underperforming Rakitic and Busquets. And then there were Gomes & Roberto.......

He played really well yesterday. While he missed that chance, he created tons of opportunities and was City's most dangerous attacker imo. Certainly top 3 player in the League.

Did Pep give his squad a few days off? KDB is in Napels visiting Dries Mertens today, which seemed a bit weird considering they've got a game on Monday and it's a busy period in the PL.

Fairly common to get a few days off before the fixtures really ramp up. Courtois was in Philadelphia of all places watching a 76ers game yesterday.

Yeah you're right, I even saw that on his Instagram but figured it was an NBA in London edition like they do a few times a year, but he's posted another one from courtside United Center yesterday as well. Some life they're living.

Best player in the league in my opinion.

Probably the only one who wouldn't look out of place playing in the offensive midfield areas for Barca or Real.

I remember hearing Wayne Bridge's current wife talking about how when they had just got together she couldn't believe the world she had entered. Jump on a plane and suddenly she was off to New York for the weekend shopping. I'd quite like to be very rich at some point.

Fellaini is in Milan too. Seems like all the Belgians made good use of their days off.

He'd fit more at Real than at Barca IMHO.

Agree, they have a more aggressive style that would suit him more.

I'm wondering what Chelsea were thinking but worse still is what we're all the other top clubs thinking in not taking him from there.

Yeah, it's crazy. It's no wonder most of their girlfriends are pregnant in their late teens or early twenties - not only can they already afford to have children at that age, it also gives them pretty much financial security for life. Hazard had three children at the age of 24 ffs.

I don't get the obsession with Hazard. He has scored a few goals but he isn't so creative for a playmaker. He just seems to score occasionally and take players on. I expect more all round contribution. He has 1 assist in the league from 30 chances created. De Bruyne has 9 assists from 50 chances created. Sanchez has more goals, assists, chances than Hazard. Hazard beats him on take ons

Agreed - Hazard may be talented but I'd much rather have De Bruyne in my team as he is a much more effective player. De Bruyne along with Aguero are probably the two best players in England imo.

People have forgotten about Kun rather quickly. Last season his goal to game ratio was absurd. He also has a high one this year, around 0.89 goals per 90 mins which is almost a goal a game. Because of his discipline, he has played less matches, scored less goals and is costing City

De Bruyne is very talented but I do think he is a bit prone to fading away when the opponent is really pressing City like hell. Actually, lots of top players seem to be unable to impose themselves on a game when their team is being pressed heavily. Same story for Ozil.
