No, because we didn't just sell our best player.

To be fair, Barca and Real are head and shoulders above us now in terms of squad quality.

Nani, Park and Valencia are our wingers? Rooney and Berbatov our only senior strikers?

feck.

Are you on a massive wind up?

Well that's a relief, the idea of Benzema with Rooney behind didn't fill me with glee.

Did we lack any ambition in 06/07 when we only brought in Carrick?

Signing a really old GK from Fulham didn't turn out that bad eh? or that Spurs signing we made to replace Keano..

It's embarrassing seeing these kind of post as though our team is full of shit players.

Yepp there is no difference between Dutch No 1 keeper (for the past 10 years) and Villareal's reject.

I don't think anyone knows whats going on in truth. If lyon have accepted a bid - it'd be on their website.Surely they have a website? is it?

I love how everyones at extremes, it's quite amusing. Benezema is quoted in a magazine as saying while he likes madrid, it isn't 'his fecking dream' btw..

Why would he lie?

Yeah just doesn't sound right.....I'm disappointed, but sure we'll move on

But 35 mill....and the deal done so quickly when it comes to Lyon? theyre notorious for getting the best price for their players and dragging transfers out

Benzema for €35 is just a joke...something fishy is going on here.

Player power, if he truly wants to go then the club will have to accept the lower fee.

Dave Whelan was intimating that one offer for Valencia was lower than the other, but the choice was Valencia's.

Also, with Berbatov last summer, if City hadn't got rich, Spurs would have been forced to accept less for Berbatov, as noone else was in for him

Calm yourself down.

Save your whining for when the transfer window closes, it's only just opened FFS.

Who says United have been in for him?

When did Benzema become a TOP player?

Fergie's past comments obviously showed his interest in bringing him here. Whether or not we were actually in for him, I don't know. But if 35 million euros was all Lyon were looking for, we damn well should've been in for him.

And I never said he was a top player. Quite a difference in being a top talent and a top player.

Top is a psychic

LUISSSSSSS FABIANNNOOOOOOOOOO

let the muppetry begin all over again

feckin hate summers. Lets just all feck off for a while, come back in August after this muppetry is over.

They say that the offer was much higher than 35m euro and that it did not necessarily come from madrid.

Type "Benzema", "Madrid" and "dream" into google and the interview is easy to find.

'Kin mothers and Real Madrid, eh?

was that story run anywhere legit? Goal is hardly creditable and quotes have been known to be twisted in the media

Lets get Bellion, wasn't he up there in the goalscoring charts with Benzema?

I'm not, no.

I'm fecked off.

Just calm down, it's hard accepting that we have just about been knocked off our perch and that our claim to be the best team in the world is bullshit now! Barcelona and Real have a better team and realistically we will be more on a level with Liverpool/Chelsea now.

Thing is you can't be at the top all of the time year after year...SAF will have a plan and a bunch of muppets moaning isn't going to make him blow all the cash on a top player and ditch is well proven tactic of developing a team through buying young talent.

Read on another forum that SSN are reporting that we did have a deal in place with everything agreed and Real outbid us and offered him more money?

Anyone here heard that?

do we really want to sign someone whose dream was always to join real???? nah feck him.........

Without acting like a drama queen it's because we've shown our hand to the world by selling Ronaldo. A really "big team" wouldn't sell its best player, especially the best player in the world, and so despite being rolling in cash at the moment we're suddenly not viewed at the very top of the game anymore.

Whatsmore, its Spain where everyone wants to go again. The past few years it's been the Premiership, but with Barcelona cleaning up last year and this spending spree by Real, players all want to ply their trade in Spain instead. Which means that all the young talented youngsters being prised away from their clubs will all go to Spain instead - that's where the best football will be, or so they think.

Yeah seems the dominance of the PS has ended and the top players want to play in Spain now. Also i dont believe its just a case that top players dont want to come to United but we are getting out priced for anyplayer we want to go for.

Real deal? Lyon deny that Real Madrid have beaten Manchester United to £30m Karim Benzema

Lyon have denied claims in Spain that Real Madrid have completed the £30million signing of Karim Benzema.

In fact, the French club say they have received a bid far superior to the figure widely quoted by Spanish media.

Manchester United are determined to land the France striker are thought to be prepared to offer closer to £38m.

The websites of Spanish newspapers Marca and AS say the 21-year-old's transfer to the Bernabeu as a done deal, but there has been no official announcement from the Spanish giants and Lyon have moved to quash the reports.

Lyon communications chief Olivier Blanc said the story was 'unfounded' and told respected French newspaper L'Equipe: 'The Marca report is substantially wrong in substance.

'We've received an offer of an amount substantially greater than the amount raised, but not to say that it comes from Real. There is no agreement with anyone.'

Reports said Madrid would confirm Benzema's arrival later on Wednesday or on Thursday. The club's president Florentino Perez warned the next signing would come in a 'day or two' after unveiling new £56m superstar Kaka at the Bernabeu on Tuesday evening.

After completing the £80m signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United today and the £12m capture of Raul Albiol from Valencia, the reported outlay on Benzema would take Madrid's summer spending to almost £180m.

madrid do not have a better team than us right now. I think a little bit of respect should be shown to the Manchester United players.

Even if you hear stuff like that now you can't trust it. It's good publicity to make out that your new signing turned down massive offers from elsewhere to choose you.

We'll never know for sure whether United even bid for the player unless Gill or Fergie say they did.

:lol:and so it goes on.

Would you rather we had never signed Ronaldo!?

No.

But United can do without the kind of circus surrounding him the last three years.

I want United to have players who sees United as the pinnacle of their careers, not just a career stepping stone.

If not, they can feck off. Be it Ronaldo, Ruud, Beckham, Benzema etc.
