Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

Today was more about having Sturridge and Coutinho back than anything Klopp did. If Sturridge stays fit between now and the end of the season we'll probably end up top six and with a trophy. If not we will probably maintain a continuous run of erratic performances/results.

I'll reserve judgment on Klopp until next season when he's had a summer to bring a couple of players in.

Exactly. We need a new goalie, 2 first line centrebacks and I'd be happy to see the back of most of our midfielders for newer models (Henderson, Milner, Lucas, Lallana can all go). The only one I would keep is Can because of his age and that as a backup. Up front we need to sell Benteke and Balotelli to China.

Nah, they're not. They'd only lost one of their last 5 before this (winning two), which was their best run of the season. We just didn't realise how shit they were when we played them.

Of course they are. For a start they they were a confident team when we came up against them. The current team know they are done and even the points they sneak is done through terrible football and lots of luck.

I don't really get your point here, though. Your argument is based on Villa being better then due to confidence...but they were still doing much worse than they have been recently. For such a poor team, they've only been thrashed once this season (by Everton) before this game.

We played them right at the start after they had won their opening game. They've been progressively getting worse since then. Anyway, this is so utterly pointless I'm sure why we're arguing.... A win against effectively a championship is not much to get excited about at any rate.

Not sure I'd go with all 3 of Studge, Firmino & Coutinho away from home to any kind of proper team but it does balance with the workrate-based, water carrying 3 of Hendo, Milner & Can.

I didn't see the game today but, was talking to a mate of mine and he said Klopp was sneering in the direction of the Villa bench....

This true? Not trying to stir, I didn't see the game

Not from what I saw watching the game. He was laughing a lot in the second half towards the end of the game but it looked like he was laughing at something stupid one of our players did.

I'd say we need a new goalie as a priority. In terms of CB's it's important to note that Gomez still has to come back from injury and Ilori is an option. I also think having a better keeper behind them might make the likes of Sakho and Lovren a bit less chaotic at the back. We're fine at full back with Smith and Flanagan as back ups to Moreno and Clyne.

In midfield we have Mario Grujic to come in but I'd love to try and test Leicester's resolve for Kante. Probably unrealistic as bigger clubs will want him but he'd be perfect for us. Milner, Can, Allen and Lucas are all fine as options and I agree Can may get better, but relying on those players for a whole season is going to see us in midtable again. We've also got Markovic out on loan so he's an option on the wing but I'd still like to see us try and bring in a quality wide player.

Up top I'd keep Sturridge pending no serious injuries between now and the end of the season. Origi and Ings are fine as back up options. Balotelli and probably Benteke will be sold so one striker might be a necessity.

Overall I'd say we only need to bring in three, maybe four players that can improve the starting XI to get us challenging and hopefully finishing in the top four. We've got a big squad with lots of options but not enough quality in the starting XI. That's what Klopp needs to get right in the summer.

Why not? I don't think it is risky to play with 3 attackers with a solid midfield three.

And besides, Coutinho and Firmino are both very good defensively as attacking players go.

I can't believe Klopp gave Mignolet a new deal still. Getting rid of him would solve a lot of Liverpool's issues I think. He causes panic and uncertainty in that defence.

I suspect he will buy a new keeper. New contract adds value to the player and regardless of the narrative around him, Mingolet would be a strong second keeper. He's not good enough to be a regular in a side with Liverpool's ambitions but he's good enough to be in the squad. Watching this week's PL goals I've seen so many poor goalkeeping displays. It's not a position of depth right now.

What's the definition of a sneer? Is it the same as Rafa's 'gesture' to Big Sam...as in nothing of note?

Some Villa mates of mine have posted something this morning very pro Klopp - saying he was gracious towards them telling 'pool fans not to sing about the scoreline but to put themselves in the place of the fans of Villa as it was sad to see a great club like this having these problems. He might be the "sound-bite" king but I really like his style!

Sturridge is the best striker in the league after Aguero. They'd probably be a better team than us if he didn't get injured by a gust of wind, although that isn't saying much.

He gets us......

He is such a great player, I don't think people give him the ratings he deserves. You guys would probably be in the top four had he not been injured. I'm actually worried because if he stays fit and Manchester United keep plodding like they have recently it would be a shambles if you guys were to go above us.

Him getting caught by the cameras telling that old lady to move out of shot so the seats around him were all empty sums up the man.

Outplayed by City. They can no longer point to the that fluke win at the etihad where the city players looked drunk as a sign of klopp doing well.

he's been shite and I absolutely love it. The cnuting fraud is being found out now

Kloop is a good manager, if he signs quality players in the summer Liverpool could be fighting in the top 4.

I'm glad that they lost but the reality is that they played a final at Wembley (they have silverware) and we are not even there. I hope we can win in the Europa League to trash them out of the competition. Also, it would be amazing if we win that cup and play Champions League next season.

Which is what they did under Rodgers. He needs to do more than fight for top 4.

Fowler has come out saying that even though Liverpool has lost but he is still building something special. Now I know Klopp is a very good manager but what's the evidence of that?

Apart from his time at Dortmund, it wouldn't be harsh to say that he hasn't done anything great at Liverpool so far. Their winning record is more or less the same as it was under Brendan.

Yesterday also they were lucky that City forgot to finish their chances. It should've been 3-0 even before the 80th minute mark.

All this talk of giving him next season is laughable considering the fact that when Liverpool trashed Chelsea and City, all the talk was that Klopp has reinvigorated the club and they should now challenge for the title. Few bad results, and the onus is on Brendan again.
