Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

We need to at least equal Arsenal's result at Stoke this weekend. If we don't, then I think we can kiss top 4 goodbye for another season.

We've had Arsenal fans clamouring for Wenger's head on a platter all season. Yet this is the man who's built some great teams, who've won league titles & numerous other bits of silverware, & played some terrific football along the way. & they have yet another final to look forward to in a few weeks. Then we have a lot of Liverpool fans putting Klopp on a pedestal because he's won a couple of German titles, is a bit zany on the touchline, who's achievements thus far is losing 2 cup finals & taking us from title challengers in Autumn to sweating it out for a top 4 place in Spring.

Not quite sure who's the biggest mugs.

If Arsenal fail to win on Saturday, it's all done and dusted IMO. However, they seem to have found that form they always find in the race for the top 4.

I fancy they'll beat Stoke, close the gap to you guys to 1 point and that game at the Olympic Stadium on Sunday will be a high pressure game for you guys.

We're fecked if Arsenal wins at the Britannia, no way we're beating West Ham away from home.

Think Arsenal need to win at Stoke because even if LFC lose at WHU they can get to 73pts & are likely to smash M'boro by enough to just pinch it on GD or even Goals Scored.

It's quite good fun now we're not bothered is this?

City got enough GD to hold off the Arse too in the event of level points too.

It still doesn't change zero goals in 5 matches away vs. Top 6 teams. Fantastic tactics right there.

We haven't played 5 away games against top 6 teams.

Cafeteria having a shocker again I see

He must think we have played ourselves once.

Considering we are a top 6 team we can only play 5 away games, we've played 4.

The poor guys got Liverpool on 81 league titles too.

He's has bloody Essien's Calculator hasn't he

Seeing how nervous the Liverpool fans are today has changed my opinion. We'll sneak top four. Would rather finish 7th with the Cup though...

Liverpool have blown it. West Ham will be desperate to feck them. That's the kind of club they are.
Liverpool fans, @B20 @Liver_bird @Rafateria @redman5 what should happen if you guys don't get top 4?
We can all see the bait you're dangling however we won't find a better manager than Klopp and it was always billed as a long term appointment/project so nothing would have changed.
You would have to point the finger at the players too though, Lovren's comment on their (his) apparent apathy re. playing lowly placed teams was telling in light of some of our performances.

You've got the wrong end of the stick. I think you'd have to be mad to sack him. That's not the point I'm trying to make. I am talking more in terms of the club's transfer recruitment strategy and if he'll be under the same kind of pressure as Rodgers was last season.

Ah ! Glad we are on the same page there then :)
Rodgers was under pressure because he made a pigs ear of trying to replace Suarez and ran out of ideas. Nothing even remotely akin to our current situation.
With Euro football of one kind or another next season we will have to expand the squad by 4-5 (first team) players at least (the exact number depending on how many are sold) with current incumbents going into the squad.
The quality of those players is hugely dependent on CL football. It will be a nightmare if we fail to make the CL slots, which is looking increasingly likely.
To be honest I'm not sure what Klopp and his team will do in that scenario because squad-wise we can't afford to fall much further, than we are now, behind the teams at the top.

I've said all season that top four is paramount as playing in Europa and with Conte/Pep/Mour settled into their new roles we probably won't get another chance. And the reason Europa will kill us is because we didn't finish top 4 to attract the quality AND quantity of players necessary to handle extra games. Its a deadly spiral. To me it feels like a threshold season, one that can keep us with the big boys or suppress us for years. We'll still keep Klopp though to cling on to any coat tails with our non-CL level players.

Actually playing in the CL next season doesn't excite me as much. Mainly because I know we'll be average (understandably after all these years). But the act of finishing top four is crucial to attracting players and finishing top 4 again and becoming an established CL team, ad infinitum.

I wouldn't sack him in any circumstance he is literally the embodiment of the perfect FSG manager, which is both to my chagrin and delight. I vehemently despise the fact they see him as a golden ticket... a way to keep churning out profits challenging for top four if " he can" rather than as any real indicator of an ambition to challenge for the top honours. However it has to be said it is a pretty smart business decision, although it does nothing for us as fans.

We are in our most barren trophy run in the post shankly era and FSG whilst not entirely responsible definitely share a good portion of the blame, a haphazard strategy that has rendered each incumbent in the hotseat powerless to the whims of lady luck. They did a great job commercially initially to maximise our appeal worldwide something we failed to do in 1992 and have been paying the price for ever since. But they have left each manager short time and time again.

Now ignoring all of that and just focusing on the run in, we have an extremely difficult task for a side that has shown an inability to get over the line time and time again in the past few years. If we do scrape over the line we need at least 6 first team players and possibly a couple more squad options on top of that. Our failure to invest more has left us woefully short. And I would be lying if I said it wouldn't make me sick to the stomach to miss out on top 4, having sat there all season. If we do miss out I would stick with Klopp for as long as it takes, but it would be a pretty grim future.

You're not going to attract better players just because of potentially one season in the CL. The same goes for us.

I keep saying this but the majority of modern players move for money first and prestige second. Location obviously comes into it as well.

With Barcelona, Bayern etc and the other crappy one/two team leagues, players will always go to them because it's guaranteed CL every year. This isn't the case at Liverpool or Utd these days.

What we can and will do is throw silly money at players though so we will always attract the 'big players' (whether that's a good thing is for another debate) but you lot don't have this luxury.

Sure you might get 'better' players on paper but that never seems to work out well unless they are the very top tier. Having the odd season here and there in the CL doesn't mean shite apart from a few quid.

As things stand, Liverpool and Utd are nowhere near being CL clubs until they address huge, glaring issues in their squads.

You're right, I might be overplaying top 4 in terms of player attraction. But even for the middle tier players, we need top four to lessen their apprehensions. This is where we sit alone as Spurs and Arsenal have their London appeal.

Pure money without the ambition attracts pure mercenaries (and their hanger-on agents). We are both in a similar situation but at very different ends.

Don't get me wrong, being in the CL is far better than not being in it, for obvious reasons.

But remember your previous short lived CL, same goes for us. Neither club achieved anything positive from either stint.

I know we always like to say Liverpool managers are cracking up, in jest, but for his own healths sake Liverpool need a strong season next year or he's gonna go full Benitez.

Everyone were scared before Christmas that Liverpool were going to win the league. I looked at their squad and said hell no, not enough quality mixed with too few players. They feel immense pride in beating the big teams, whilst thinking the lesser teams will be beaten next year. It does not work that way - luckily. In many ways Liverpool are the lesser team when up against Man Utd, Man City, Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea. They are the ones with the huge motivation to beat the big guys, because their team (player for player) is not up to standards.

The inevitable happened and Liverpool suddenly found themselves outside the top four. Then they were back and 100% safe, but suddenly they are in danger again. Arsenal to beat Stoke tomorrow, then Liverpool have to beat West Ham away. West Ham win and draw more than they lose at home and just had a great match against Spurs. Liverpool lose and draw as much as they win away. It's 50/50. Sure Arsenal might not win everything remaining in front of them, but the motivation after West Ham vs. Liverpool will not be possible to beat.

It would be so incredibly great if Liverpool ditched out of the top four on the last day and had to play Europa League next year. It would be yet another underwhelming season without trophies for the savior, Jürgen Klopp - a few months after everyone was sure they had the title in their pockets. Liverpool are as far away from the title as they have ever been, and they have the best manager they could possibly get. The maths are fantastic. You cannot win the league without a tactically astute manager in charge, it's impossible.

Looking at the media response to Jose today, anyone would think we are on the verge of relegation. We have already won a trophy, got to the quarter final of the FA cup, in the europa league final and until the arsenal game it was in our own hands to overtake Liverpool. We have played something like 18 games more than Liverpool but klopp gets of easy as usual.

It's absolute bs, klopp the clown has got an easy run again by the media. They have such a rubbish squad that they get found when they play games close together. If they were in Europe I think it's safe to say they wouldn't be anywhere near top 4. Having so long to prepare for each game. Chelsea have been the best team in the league and deserve the title. Klopp is tactically awful and gets an easy ride, while Jose gets a rough ride by the FA and the media. One rule for us and another for them.

I love also how it constantly gets parroted about their record vs. the top teams, like the points count extra.

When you have nothing to be proud of, figure out what makes you better, regardless of insignificance, and shout it to the rafters. Liverpool got nothing but meaningless bullshit.

Incredible how he keeps embarassing himself. I wonder what's the next thing he will whine about.

If we tried to be over the top and playfully guess at his next excuse we couldn't be this ridiculous.
If they drop points at West Ham I predict the ballboys will come into play. Or something about the changing rooms

Surely his whining and excuses must be getting tiresome even for our resident scousers now?

Not really. I watch football games, not press conferences. The only quotes from Klopp I hear/see are the ones that are posted on here - I think it's quite unnecessary to even make excuses at this point. We're not playing that well and drew a home game against Southampton, so what, it happens. Sometimes you have to look at yourself instead of others, accept that it didn't work out and move on... All manangers whinge and make up the most ridiculous excuses though, so it's not like I hold it against him.

We should have a match by match competition to guess his next excuse.
