First trophy for Kloop

Liverpool are playing their best football since I dont know when. 2 or 3 better players and more consistency and they will be able to beat even Barca or Bayern.

I am so angry right now. Why cant we do this against smaller teams?

Because you frighten the smaller sides and they don't want to try and play football against you.

City are similar but because of their defensive frailties and less ferocious pressing, teams are more open against them.

You guys need to develop a more nuanced way of playing against smaller sides next year. Rock star football doesn't cut it against these sides.

Klopp had precisely the same problem at Dortmund. I think he either has to develop a more patient approach against smaller teams or build a squad that's deep enough so motivation and fatigue aren't issues anymore.

Burnley - freak result
Bournemouth - complacency when leading, shite defending - in the these things happen category
Swansea - complacent possibly, shite defending again
Hull - being piss poor at both ends on the day
Leicester - motivated opposition, poor selection

they have tonked a few too, I still don't buy this thing about the minnows have unfathomable tactics shite

and at the other side, Wenger has close to given LFC 6pts this season with his team selections

the Bigger teams will rumble the Klopp approach soon

They are a team who's entire game plan revolves around running more and harder than the opposition, playinh with more energy and intensity. Against the big sides, the motivation's there so they can pull it off. Against the minnows, they seem to fail to do that.

As for tactics, that's a different matter. Minnows have figured out the simple fact that liverpool have no real #9. They live off of their pressing, pace and movement. Sit deep, flood the center and give them the flanks and they have nobody in the box who can hurt you, unless they bring one or two midfielders into the box, which means if you win the ball back, you're playing a 3 vs 3 on half the pitch.

Liverpool absolutely need a game-winner CF, and probably a true midfield general who can act as Klopp's right arm on the pitch

watching their match today was exactly like watching them play Spurs.
wtf is wrong with these North London sides.

Liverpool has 21 of 27 possible points against the top 7 (excluding them obviously), six wins and three draws.
Liverpool has 19 of 30 possible points against the bottom 6, six wins, a draw and three losses.

I doubt something like that has happened very often. :wenger:

Weird reaction after performance like that.

Anyways, it's simple: smaller team tends to sit deep & play direct football & well versed in set piece/corner. Better teams tends to have the arrogance & try to play a certain way: building up through lines, attack in numbers & expose their defense against L'pool pressing & quick break, shite at set piece, L'pool is a game raiser... Last but not least, your style of play encourages game raisers against yourself: show team your defensive unit is thin & they fancy their chance on the break.

After the City game our 4 remaining away fixtures are against sides who (hopefully) will have nothing to play for as they'll be clear of relegation & will not be in with a chance of securing a European spot - Stoke - WBA - Watford - West Ham - In the past these teams have caused us problems so we have to hope they're not as motivated as usual. Or even better, the motivation of playing against Europe's elite drives our players on to overcome these tricky sides, because let's face it, our season will probably stand or fall on what happens at those aforementioned grounds.

Excellent performance & a very important win last night. I'm still banking on that Leicester debacle being a mixture of playing against a side who feel they had a point to prove, & us being a little rusty after going 16 days between matches.

And they are gonna drop points next week. So predictable :D
I don't think they will. Burnley are one of the worst travellers in the league.

If Liverpool can up their game v the smaller teams then they should be good for 4th.

Arsenal are a shambles. Finishing 5th will do them good - they'd have to act on Wenger if that happened.

Just taking the piss, but i wouldn't be surprised if they dropped points :D.
I have no faith in our board and our manager anymore. I don't trust any of them to make the right decision.

Pool have 8 points this calendar year 1 against us, 1 against Chelsea, 3 vs Spurs and 3 vs Arsenal. Brilliant!

I refuse to laugh at Liverpool while we continue to languish in 6th while turning in performances like the one yesterday.

But this season we still have more than youse.
Oh I actually envy your sides's exceptional record against top 5 clubs to be honest, but wouldn't swap your team for ours despite us being below you

Sir Alex for all those years showed the way for teams against small teams. Put them under immense pressure from wide areas and then dont be vulnerable to the counter. Chelsea are doing the same this season with great results. All this tippy tappy stuff going throught the middle of teams when they have 8 people right in front of their goal is pretty pointless. After you score the first goal, then you can play through the middle as the smaller team would be forced to turn the match into a technical battle.

Why didn't it work in the year he got them the championship? Seems like two years would have been more than enough for small team managers to change their approach?

I take it you speak about his second title winning season?! He had a pretty great team back then: Lewandowski, Hummels, Piszczek, Güdogan, Götze and of course Kagawa in the form of his life. Even a limited workhorse like Großkreutz delievered 7 goals and 7 assists.
They were finished with European football after the group stages and thus could focus on their league campaign, which lead to a pretty amazing streak with loads of momentum after the winter break (15-2-0) and ended with their 5:2 win over Bayern in the cup final.

here's a compilation from that season:

For various reasons (losing a bit of hunger, injuries, fatigue, teams improving tactically and getting more defensive against them, Bayern pulling too far ahead with their record breaking seasons) they couldn't keep that up consistently in the years to come.
