Jurgen Klopp and Dortmund

should have been another 4-0 if it weren't for that massively bit of sloppy play from Hummels. I think that slight vulnerability in defence will perhaps give Bayern the edge in the final. I thought Barca and Madrid were the benchmark but clearly the German sides are on a different level and would have beaten us comfortably as well. At least next year if we come up against Dortmund or Bayern and lose easily it won't be a surprise.

John Jiles saying they're not that good

One of the few things right with Football, breath of fresh air they are.

Given their comparative lack of financial muscle, it's amazing how well they've done against City and Real in Europe this season.

Fantastic football on a shoestring budget, could he possibly be Fergie's successor?

Remarkable club aren't they?

Wage bill sits between Aston Villa and Spurs.

As long as they've Klopp, I imagine they'll be fine.

Everything seems so right about this club. Brilliant stadium, incredible fans, a young side full of players they turned into stars as opposed to buying readymade stars, class manager. It probably won't last long, with so many juggernaut clubs looking to get their players (and probably manager as well).

Shame the team will get dismantled by the hungry big clubs! Ourselves included will be sniffing around there stars! I hope they keep them all, breath of fresh air....

amazing achievement, just hope they keep hold of their players. If they lose lewandowski along with Gotze this year you gotta feel that will be that for them sadly.

They need to get some targets sorted out fast, last thing they want is to be sitting on €60m all summer from Gotze and Lewandowski. Draxler looks to be a top young player he would be a great signing for them and although Lewandowski is a top player im sure they can find a decent goalscorer for next season with the cash they will have available.

It depends. If they don't lose too many key players in too short a time, they might actually be able to compete at a very good level.

Their large domestic support base also guarantees that they will have quite good financial income and as long as they can keep qualifying for the CL they might be able to grow into the financial elite in Europe over the next 5-6 years, of course they will have to rebuild the side during that time every now and then.

Keeping Klopp during that time will be key though I feel, he is the one who forms this teams into what it is.

just realised I've advocated the signing of Gundogan in his thread and said this but still.... We can give them Anderson if they want.

Aye it's quite amazing to be honest. Sounds really silly but iv been playing Football Manager for about 15 years now and this is the exact position I always try and get my teams :P it's dream team type material really. A team full of wonderkids that play great football and have a good infrastructure, it doesn't get much better really.

Klopp's interviews are great. :D He's like a child on Christmas day when they win these matches.

Reckon Chelsea will make a big play for Klopp in the summer. And maybe even Madrid if Mourinho leaves.

It used to be a feature of our play a few years ago as well, but what impesses me most about Dortmund and Bayern is their work rate. That includes both with the ball and without. Notably their movement around the box is exceptional, but without the ball they are so hungry. They hunt in packs so well.

So, is this more to do with tactics or something slightly more obvious; they are simply younger and fitter than we are?

For a side that's not traditionally considered a top of the pile European club, you don't often get in that situation. They've got top class players all across the pitch, starting from the back with the likes of Hummels and Subotic, to Gundogan and the formidable trio Götze, Reus and Lewandoski up top. They'll continue to attract good players as they're in a very healthy position but to assemble a squad this special? Will be very hard for them if a few more key players leave.

I doubt they are going to want to sell anymore players this summer. They are losing Lewandowski and Götze and are getting around £50m for them. They will look to hold onto their players and strengthen. If any team comes in for either Hummels or Gundogan, they are not even to going to start negotiations unless the starting amount is around £25m. They arent a rich club like Bayern but with them getting so much money this year, I doubt they are in a position to sell.

Klopp is such a magician.

Such a shame he still can't be 15 cm shorter and speak Spanish.

Well people said they would sorely miss Sahin, now Gündogan is arguably already the better player and Reus replaced Kagawa without much trouble.

Of course Lewandowski and Götze will be harder to replace but Dortmund is also a team that profits a lot from their tactical setup and their team play.

Another part is that they can now attract even another tier of talented players, they have around 80m € for transfers next season, which I doubt they will all spend but they will be able to bring players like Reus in on a regular basis and Klopp so far has proven that he is quite capable to integrate talented young players very fast.

Lewandowski will probably be the hardest to replace because there aren't too many young potential top 5 strikers around these days, at least not for a reasonable price.

I'm starting to think that they can sell all of their first XI, and still will be a team to beat next season with all those new signings.

Well I wouldn't go that far but I think they won't totally decline despite losing two of their best players, especially considering that they have the money to bring in quality replacements.

Their budget for the Summer without transfer fees for departing players was supposed to be in excess of €30m. They've finally sorted out their finances with a massive CL income this season, they regularly fill an 80 thousand stadium and are the 2nd biggest team in one of the best footballing nations in the world. Their scouting network is very advanced and they have a good manager in charge.

I think that chances are they'll be fine even without Lewandowski and Götze as with €80m+ in the bank that they'll be looking to spend they could buy 4-5 very talented players - especially as Dortmund will seem like a very good destination for plenty of young player nowadays. Big stadium, great support, success and regular opportunities for young players to play and something PL teams other than United and perhaps City for example can't offer - guaranteed CL football every year.

For example if they replaced Götze and Lewandowski with Eriksen and Damiao (two reported transfers) and added a few other quality players like Son, they could be even better next season.

Seems like they could pluck in players from obscure places and make them world class overnight. It's just mind boggling.

I think if they use their money they are getting to buy either Eriksen or Isco to replace Götze, they will be as strong next year.

What's cool about Klopp's tactics is that Dortmund don't seem to overload the opposition with overlapping full-backs and plenty of midfielders bursting forward, as opposed to many other top attacking sides. There were times when 4 Dortmund players were more than capable of causing all the damage required. There was more overlapping in the second-half on the right-side but that was basically taking advantage of Ronaldo's tendency to stay forward. Otherwise, it basically meant that Dortmund were never really overwhelmed at the back because there were always 6-7 players in good defensive positions.

Of course, they did press really well all over the pitch, but it also meant that there was always a Dortmund player where necessary. No player ever really went "missing", because they never really had to commit too many players forward.

Actually Dortmund really do that a lot. I guess they toned that down a bit out of respect for Real. Piszczek being injured for about half a year now might have something to with it too. Usually he plays like a winger when they have the ball.

He is a great character.

Aye, the best thing that could have happened to my club.

I´m honest. The way the Götze deal went gutted me more than anything in the last five years or so. I was never much of a romantic when it comes to football and this ordeal robbed me of any unrealistic illusions I had.

I will just enjoy anything this team gives me right now and don´t think much about the future. However, the fact that the most important person of our club does not stand on the pitch, but sits on the bench, makes me hopeful.

The way he reacted to the Götze deal had so much class, even though it was a move against him personally, because the cnut tossed him aside like a toy for the shiny Spanish coach.

He seems to even more fired up now and as long as he is there, I will have something to look out for every weekend.

I just love this Dortmund team so much. Such a breath of fresh air in the past three to four seasons for Europe. Its such a shame they are getting broken up. Sad really since they have all the ingredients to become a top club in Europe again. They have the facilities, the stadium, the players, the manager and the fans.

You don't become a top club over night (if you decide not to go down the city/chelsea route). Really growing into a true top club takes probably at least a decade of exceptional work. Losing Götze and Lewandowski is a tough blow but if a club wants to establish itself at the very top of European football they need more than just one good generation of players and they need many years of financial growth to come close to the establishment.
So this is really just another test for them which they maybe have to pass a year or two earlier than expected.
