Jude Bellingham | Real Madrid player

He's obviously a wanker. I wouldn't really mind if the media hadn't spent a year or two trying to beat us over the head with how mature and level headed he is, which he absolutely is not. Lucky no one slapped him when he started that motivator shite with the other players after losing a Euros final. Guy seems to live life in third person constantly viewing himself as having a camera on him.
He reminds me of Don Johnson’s character in Tin Cup. Super pr savvy guy. Knows all the right things to say and do in front of the camera. But you can tell once the camera is off and the reporters are gone that he’s definitely not the same guy. Feels like a facade

What do you mean by that? Teammates reacting to him?

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't do it for the cameras. I'm sure there has been a few moments where he made a shit decision and someone had a go at him like any other game to be fair. I remember one where Kane was free on the edge of the box and he kept trying to beat his man and Kane went mad.

There has been a number of videos released by England as well where you can see the interaction between players is fine. You don't have to friends with the whole camp. A video was released by Adidas just like numerous players do for their own sponsorships. Players have been having a go at other players who haven't passed throughout the whole match. I'm suspect of these reports suddenly being released now to suit a narrative just like the leaks from United from certain players used to take place. I'll wait to see if there is anything further going forward.

Yeah if someone on the Caf says he is, then it must be obvious, wouldn't it. Feck me.

I wonder how they will solve that. Mbappe didn't want to be a #9 at PSG, he wanted to play wide left, where Vini plays. Someone is going to have to bend here. In fairness its Madrid and no matter how good you are you're always expendable so it'll probably work itself out.
You are right, they will either find a way to make it work or offload Vini for 150m next year if they can't.

It appears the general consensus that he's totally full of himself to be fair.

I mean he's been acting like a bit of a tit with his diving and hissy fitting around when someone touches him but as do other players. Off the pitch, he's confident in his abilities and has had a great season with Madrid. I'll wait and see how he does going forward with Mbappe coming in and see if he can have another good season.

Fair enough, I think Mbappe will blunt his numbers massively as he no longer needs to be the main outlet for them.

Comparing Bellingham to McTominay is like comparing Viera to Keane. Viera was so far ahead of Keane that it wasn't even worth discussing.

Since we're putting out absurd delusional opinions

I honestly think we need to let the dust settle a little before we have a referendum on Bellingham. He's clearly a very, very good player who has had an underwhelming tournament. He won't be the first this happens to, and he won't be the last.

I know McTominay is clearly better but he's not that much better

I kinda hope we get in his ear now about moving to United if things go south at RM.

My base case assumption still is that he'll get moved around to accommodate Vini + Mbappe and fall out of favor because outside the goals he's not a Kroos / Modric / KdB level midfielder. And they don't really need the goals because Mbappe will take on that responsibility.

Never seen a player so obsessed at looking at himself on the big screen while playing.

That shouting who else who else was a bit disrespectful towards his teammates to be fair. Seems he thinks he’s better than everyone else already.

What's the point of comparing a 20, newly 21 year old MF to Zidane, Keane, Viera, Rodri's peak performances in their late twenties? Rodri was still at Villareal at 20, Keane was still at Nottingham, Zidane was still at Cannes, Modric was still in Zagreb. Bet nobody was comparing them to Platini or Charlton at that age

He shouted for the ball regularly at Dortmund too, it either comes across as leadership or disrespectfulness depending on how it's seen. When you're 18 people give you the benefit of the doubt so even if you shout a lot or fall over, it's seen as part of a midfielder learning the ropes. Nevertheless one shouldn't expect a 21 year old to be a complete article, that's just not the age midfielders peak at.

The problem with Jude is that expectations were tempered when he was a teenage B2B at Dortmund, then when Madrid bought him for 100M everyone said he'd flop but he somehow scored 20 goals which led to premature Ballon D'or shouts. Now the goals have dried up a bit but everyone still expects him to score or assist every game and decide games singlehandedly. Or he's overrated. In June 2023 he was just a young B2B midfielder who had to prove his chops, there was 0 demand for a BdO level matchwinner who scores, assists, defends, leads because how many 20 year olds can do all that?

Also his success outside the PL may ruffle the feathers of some in England who find it annoying that an English player bypassed the all important Premier League entirely and made it to the top getting BdO shouts at RM. Some senior players may be miffed that a youngster took a shortcut, or that he doesn't deserve to be hailed as England's main man just because he plays for Real Madrid because it's akin to admitting Real Madrid is a tier above PL clubs.

Sports fans don’t tend to put things into perspective and think logically. Every media outlet takes any opportunity to tell us how great this kid is, pair that with the fact he isn’t exactly a shrinking violet and it’s the perfect storm for big-time criticism. I had a few words to say about him during this tournament but in reality he’s already achieved enough to suggest there’s a massive talent there. Just need a decent manager to get it out of him, seems to be a theme with English players on the international stage.

The cheek!! After sucking Southgate off for months!!
I'll still defend the job he done at the previous tournaments don't worry

I'm a lot more objective about england than the english, is all. You can't see that but that's okay, I don't hold it against you

He's one of those players that always fall over screaming for a foul whenever dispossessed. In other words, a cheating cnut. Harry Kane's another.

A few more years in Spain and you would have actual tears come out of the eyes after diving for a non existent foul

Never seen him play well for england. Stunk the place up in the CL final,as well when I watched that.

Nobody expects him to score and assist every game. The problem is throughout this tournament he’s been consistently clumsy on the ball, playing sloppy passes, charged around, and ran into dead ends. Then you factor in the stupid hype around him both before and during the tournament, where the media were gushing over him no matter how badly he played. Then factor in his somewhat nobbish personality; rolling around, kicking out, giving in the big ‘un and the cringeworthy demonstrations of “leadership” for the cameras. It’s got nothing to do with avoiding the PL.

That's in reference to that Athletic piece which said he ruffled feathers after getting added to England's leadership right before the Euros and has few friends in the squad other than TAA because he never played in the PL and was fast tracked to skip age groups so his same-aged pals are still in u21s.

Musiala, Yamal, Güler probably face the same issues but nobody cares, difference being Jude doesn't look quite as young (good if you want to avoid responsibilties, Foden and Saka are treated like they're still 20 year olds) and has the countenance of a weather-beaten veteran so he's expected to lead and take responsibility.

The algorithm based ratings websites had him as the best player of the final

I doubt that’s much of a factor to be honest. He comes across as an arrogant arsehole on the pitch, so it’s not particularly surprising if he’s not popular in the dressing room either.
