I don't want Mata to join another PL club. He is a quality player..
I'm sure a huge offer would change anyone's mind, but clearly the current plan is for him to stay
just like Poulsen wasn't signed to replace Mascherano.
....
Ouch, too soon. We signed Poulsen to replace Mascherano. Still hurts.
No Offer For Mata
In addition to Llorente’s statements on Cadena SER yesterday, Juan Mata Sr. has stated that he has not received any calls.
Yesterday, the rumours about Juan Mata’s future were given an emphatic response from both the president of the club and the player’s agent.
Juan Mata Sr. stated that “no-one has gotten in contact about him,” and therefore, “there are no offers.”
Furthermore, speaking as the fixture draw was made, Manuel Llorente stated that “Juan Mata is staying.” The president is convinced that Mata will stay because the club’s improving financial situation means that there is no longer a necessity to sell.
With all four captains leaving this Summer, Juan Mata is also been considered as one of the new captains for this new project at Valencia.
Thats that then
We could be looking at getting both Downing and Mata. imo.

He is going to cost around the same region as Nasri, so I d rather have a player who is versatile and can play in central midfield.
I wish we'd went for the more skillful, tons of time on the ball spanish type of wide player instead of knock it forward and run head down and cross english type but you can't always get what you want.

We, in fact, need a central mid-fielder who could play wide too.
Who is this "English type" you refer to? Because you didn't even come close to describing Ashley Young just there. Have you ever seen him play?
Valencia head coach Unai Emery admits the club will struggle to retain Spain forward Juan Mata if the club receive a big-money offer for his services.
Los Che are keen for the 23-year-old to remain at La Mestalla and he also wants to stay, however, their finances are likely to play a huge role in the decision.
A host of Premier League clubs are being linked with the talented attacker with Arsenal and Liverpoolvery keen, while Manchester City and Tottenham are also said to be interested.
Mata, who has been capped 11 times by the senior Spain side and led their Under-21s to European Championship glory earlier this summer, claims he is happy at Valencia and focused on helping the team win trophies.
"Valencia has to be prepared for a footballer having to leave, either because is he is not wanted or because some big club wants to sign him," Emery told Cadena Copa.
"We want him to stay and Mata has also expressed his wish to remain at Valencia, but we know that if a big-money offer comes in from any club and it's good for both the player and the club, it could lead to his exit."
Good. He'd suit them down to the ground.reports today suggest he is close to joining arsenal.
As far as i could gather:
Mata has a special clause, his is clubs from anywhere can release him for 25M Euros, and Valencia has to let him go or raise his wages. Second the payment must be all up front.
Manuel Llorente has reiterated on several occasions to try to convince not to leave Mata of Valencia. The player has extended his contract at the end of last season and signed a buyout clause of 60 million. However, the club pledged to listen to offers as long as these were succulent for both parties.
