Juan Mata

Apparently release clauses only apply domestically, but that could be wrong.

Word has it negotiations have started between the two clubs.

Yeah thats the normal rule as far as I'm aware, but the Valencia fan who was giving me info stated at first that as far as he knows, Mata's is a special case that applies to any club.

But then he's also the one who linked me to the Spanish article about the 60 million euro release clause afterwards

All I know is that he's worth around £25 million and from what Valencia have said, they only leave the door open to selling him for money they couldnt turn down. So I'd be shocked if it happened for a fee much lower than that especially given that it seems like just Arsenal and Spurs looking at him right now.

In the past Inter have made contact and Barcelona were apparently interested. I'm pretty sure both clubs would have done whatever it took to sign him already if his fee was less than £20 million as it'd be a bit of a steal

Right, cheers for that. I thought anything around the mooted £15m mark was ludicrous, and so it shall probably prove.

Could always be something like £15 million + delayed installments up to a £20 million fee and then another £5 million based on success

But again, I dont see that type of deal being one Valencia cant turn down. Mata is likely to be captain of Valencia this season with the former captains leaving the club. It just isnt in their interests to lose their best performer of last season and most likely captain of next season for a low fee

He's better than Young was at Villa. We'll have to see what Young does here before we really know the answer

Looks like it's only a Mata of time before this is sealed according to the Guardian.

Is he an out and out winger lad's? Out of interest, the quoted fee seems a bargain...

He used to be a left winger who gave good width and crossing from the left. Before that a striker. Last season he played in the hole behind a striker. He played right wing for Spain at the under 21s world cup...

^

What you said. He's not as direct as Young, and you know what Young will bring to the side.

Anyway I choose not to get excited until I see him in the shirt!

Valencia loaning Canales for 2 years with an option to buy would seem to make this transfer more likely to go ahead.

Harry says he's in for him

Really how different is SAF/Wenger's transfer approach to Harry. Honestly I've said it before Sky should just made a driveway for Harry, so that Harry could come in and give a interview and feck off easily. Will save loads of time.

I'm very surprised Chelsea aren't in for him.

If Arsenal can pull it off it would be a superb signing for them.

If you lot thought City targeted players United were after, think how bad it is with us and 'Arry.

Well City can lure them with their extra money, Spurs can't do that.

Can definitely see one of the Fab/Nas duo going to facilitate Mata's transfer here. Wenger's obviously identified the frontline running out of ideas when we get to the final third and hence Gervinho was brought in to provide a bit of directness to proceedings from a wide position.

Mata would give us a different dimension..It's the sort of signing that we need at this moment with all the pessimism surrounding the club, though saying that I'm not going to get attached until I see him with our shirt on the official website!

Mata would be a good replacement for either Fabregas or Nasri considering Wilshere is playing CM and there's good depth there with Ramsey as well.

As THM says, never get excited about an Arsenal transfer until it's on the website, simply because they usually don't happen. That said, Wenger did smile knowingly like Dumbledore when he was asked about him. Seems like some attempt will be made.

It must be contingent on Fabregas or Nasri going. Otherwise having just bought Gervinho we'd have a glut of AMs many of them similar in style.

Has to be Fabregas. I don't see them budging on Nasri. I reckon he knows he has a better shot of having Nasri for another few years whereas Fabregas has been standing by the door for the last year or two.

Makes sense for Arsenal to go for him, but where exactly do Tottenham expect to play him with Bale out wide, Lennon out left, VDV behind the striker?

At least this demonstrates that we're actively seeking a replacement before Fabregas actually leaves. I don't really know where we'll fit him in though or where exactly he'll play.

Fabregas leaves, Nasri plays ahead of the midfield and Mata as the typical Arsenal left winger?

Could see him playing off the right in a 4-3-3, or just behind RVP in the 4-2-3-1 we played last season.
