The system only works if you have a big bastard up top holding the ball up. Clearly a confidence player but he has to start over Hojlund
 
Very good cameo. Obviously not really in the contention for an actual MotM with that performance by Amad (and Onana almost single-handedly keeping us in game for most of the first half)... but he was very important in changing the game. Deserves to start ahead of Højlund on the back of his few last performances (even though I do feel that he does better coming from the bench when the game is already quite chaotic).
 
If we’re gonna continue to lump the ball up top then he’s the choice. He’s got so much technical ability.

Hoijlund needs to improve on that because it’s not always gonna be put in behind where he’s strong.
 
Hopefully he produces a similar performance starting against Brighton. As I said in the Hojlund thread, I am getting tired that both keep looking better coming off the bench.
 
without him we get very little penetration in the middle, we just keep shuffling it from side back to side.... he unlocks the centre, and progresses it quickly and meaningfully...
 
Thought he was almost faultless after he came on. Some lovely touches and really allowed us to build off him.
 
He made the ball stick up front giving us the platform to make attacks. He was excellent

If we had a proper striker he could shift to one of the 10s easily

Much better overall play than Hojlund. One of the reasons Amad shone was because of how quick he was given the ball by Zirkzee. He's improving slowly and if Hojlund isn't scoring Zirkzee is the much better option.
 
I don't really care about who scores the goals, the best option for Utd in the CF spot is the one who makes the overall attack function.

He was very good, active, bright, imaginative and no little quality.
 
Thought he deserved to start tonight after solid cameo and a winning penalty at Arsenal and game showed that he definitely deserved to start. Great performance and surely he'll start vs Brighton. Wouldn't be surprised if he struggles in that one but hopefully won't.
 
I credit the win to him. At least 50-50 or maybe even more than Amad. When a team gets in your face like Southampton did, you need an outlet to hold the ball and linkup so that we can exploit the space left behind. Zirkzee did that perfectly. He has moved ahead of Hojlund in my eyes.
 
His best performance by a mile. I’ve been very critical of him all season but today he looked like a Manchester United striker. He showed the presence and bravery to ask and receive the ball in all situations.

I’m reallly hoping he gets a run in the team now because he’s had a run of impressive sub appearances and his confidence seems to be growing.

We know our attack is poor but he raised the level of it a lot just by being able to take the ball down and bring others into play.
 
When he's focused he gives us a lot more than Hojlund. If he can start giving us a full 90 with his head in the game, he's definitely my preferred option!
 
I'm beginning to prefer him to Hojlund but I don't know if he looks better because he's coming on against tiring players

I still want more from him, but he's offering more than Hojlund
 
Said after the last game he needs to start because he gets involved in the play.
 
Thought he was done at United after the Newcastle game. Takes some heart to turn it around like this.
 
I thought he was our MOTM. He didn't get a goal but most good things went through him.

In the change at HT and early in the second half, he was the one that stood out
 
He made a difference when he came on. I don't see a goal scorer there, but he brings others into play around him. I can see the value in him being here, but only if there are other players running on ahead of him and wide of him. At the very top of the team, he can't and shouldn't be relied upon to be a main source of goals. But, potentially Bruno, Amad, and Garnacho could score more goals with him on the pitch instead of Hojlund, whose hold up and general play is pretty bad. It might be a bigger net positive for us to play with Zirkzee rather than Rasmus.
 
Good performance, way above Rasmus levels. He looks like he could be one of those Firminho type strikers if he keeps improving
 
Think he did pretty well after coming on, the team seemed to suit him coming deeper as dropping Fernandes back left Garnacho and Antony as the 10s and they weren't particularly useful there.
 
He actually gets involved in the game and has better technical ability than Hojlund, there is no reason why Hojlund should be starting ahead of him. We should be signing at least 2 quality forwards in between now and the start of next season and seeing how Zirkzee can develop too. Hojlund should be sent on loan.
 
Good to see him playing with some confidence again, hopefully he can keep it up because that was a very nice sub appearance.

I think I might have once said he's as bad as Antony... Which is highly, highly inaccurate. Nobody is as bad as Antony.
 
Did really well when he came on.

Even so, either him or Hojlund have a lot to do as the lone forward. Later in games, when the opposition tires, I wonder if there’s scope in this system to keep them both up front.
 
Great link up play and made a huge difference. Zero goal threat though so we still need to sign a striker.
 
Very good performace. Amad was of course the one who scored the all important goals but I think Zirkzee was the one who changed game for us. We looked so much better going forward after he replaced Höjlund.
 
Brilliant. Turned the game for me. If he keeps that up, perhaps we have a player after all.
 
Still has a lot to improve on, especially near goal but at least he's involved and contributing to our play. Definitely deserves a run of 4-5 games. He's not getting the ball nicked off him as much, hope the spell of poor form was just him adjusting to the pace of the league.
