Still has a lot to improve on, especially near goal but at least he's involved and contributing to our play. Definitely deserves a run of 4-5 games. He's not getting the ball nicked off him as much, hope the spell of poor form was just him adjusting to the pace of the league.

Great link up play and made a huge difference. Zero goal threat though so we still need to sign a striker.
Yeah but he was never going to offer that, his strength is acting as a foil for the other goalscorers in the team. Unfortunately, we lack those...

I think we need to sign another striker, but I don't think that means you jettison Zirkzee. He's a unique profile that can be used when we need something different

Great performance, but also in an ideal situation for him. The game had broken down a bit, so there was plenty of chances for him to get on the ball without too much pressure from the Southampton defenders. Deserves praise for many good actions though.

Should start next game.

All credit to him today, comfortably his best performance - really hope it kicks him on now

Reminded me of Berbatov at his best, collected a lot of really difficult balls, turned it round the corner, spun the centrebacks round and opened up the through ball opportunity. Good energy today, better in the air.

Very good

That was the most confident display yet I thought, night and day difference between him and Hojlund. Actually linking the game and causing problems. Promising.

Thought he changed the game when he came on , just shows how bad Hoijlund was.

Silky smooth. He changed the game for us, just having someone who can receive the ball and play others in was such a huge improvement.

It's incredible how much confidence can transform a player. Just two weeks ago, he was booed off the pitch. Scored the winning pen against Arsenal and tonight, he stepped in and completely changed the game. What a phenomenal impact he had!

Delighted for him, made a few bad decisions at times but the ball stuck to him well which helped us.

I don't want to jettison him. I think he can be very useful for us

Zirkzee provding an outlet and displaying decent hold up changed a lot for us. I just wish he was better in front of goal.

Its disappointing that I wasn't even shocked when he was put through and ended up dribbling into a defender and the ball going out (without us actually getting a corner!)

He's basically Weghorst but with better feet. Wish we could find a Diego Costa type that we could play into, play off and who scores. What happened to all the strikers..?

I’ve slated him when he’s deserved it so need to give praise also. He turned the game tonight and his hold up and link player was exceptional.

Super happy for this man, the amount of stick he has had when he is still getting used to the new league and surroundings.

He was great today - held the ball up well and started attacks really well. Just needs to work on his positioning in the box more, and hopefully improve his fitness. I think that'll come, if given the chance

Looked a lot more composed today, really linked the play and ran his socks off. I think we forget that a young man came to the prem, hopefully it's just time and guidance he needs to become a really good player. Small steps, he's improving.

He made a big impact when he came on and he deserves a ton of credit for the character he's shown to respond to the Newcastle games. Like basically all of our players he's not elite and he has massive flaws but he's made a really positive contribution in the last couple of games and shown that he can have an important role for us regardless.

We're really struggling to progress the ball up the field, partially because of a lack of technical quality and partially the current set up, but given that having a big striker who can hold the ball up especially at home is really helpful so I would hope he starts against Brighton. His lack of dynamism maybe means you don't start him away, especially against good sides, but tonight was a really good cameo from him to follow his performance at the Emirates.

Great performance off the bench tonight. It's frustrating that it seems both Hojlund and Zirkzee are better off the bench at this moment in time.

Zirkzee definitely deserves to start the next game.

Happy for him. He finally gets to show the player he can be. Just a different beast.
We need to get him in the right situations and he will keep doing this.

For all the praise he got the other night, I thought it was a very hit and miss performance.

He was really good tonight though. Certainly changed the game. Amad could not have scored those goals without ZZs determined input. Great to see!

Okay easy on the hyperbole. Berba was a goal threat. Zirkzee isnt

This forum is going to flip flop on this guy all season. If he continues on from tonight, learns the league, he could be an asset next season

Let’s be honest, he is a much better player than Hojlund, he just needs to get used to the rythm of the league and gain some confidence. You can actually play football with him.

Will never be a prolific goalscorer though.

He's actually pretty good against an opponent that's sitting deep. Just useless against teams that push up high like Newcastle.

Great work today. No surprise we actually looks somewhat threatening going forwards once we brought on a striker who gets on the ball more than he does his marker....

Some balls on this kid.

From tears v Newcastle to being instrumental in a come back in a fortnight.

Im really starting to like him.

Really pleased for him, his introduction totally changed the game. I was glad when he came on as Hojlund’s utterly terrible display was getting right on my tits.

He's clearly got room for growth. A full preseason and he'll look a different player to anything we'll see this term. Even then, he's improving and adjusting to the pace of the league little by little.

Big test for him will be doing it as a starter and not a sub.
