I'm a little bit more surprised we don't see footballers (namely ours) booed more often. In a time where their wages are higher than ever, compared to the average match goer who has to fork out more money to even get into the stadium, on top of rising bills, cost of living, etc. I'm surprised we don't see more of this.

At the end of it all, he can always move on to a different club. If it doesn't work out for him here (it won't) he can always move to Italy or another country (how horrible) and carry on with his career. The fans will still be here afterwards.

That was one of the loudest boos I've heard for a home player at OT.

It matches the performance.

See my reply above. It is totally possible to put effort into the things you do on the pitch without running around like a mad man.

He clearly is lacking confidence. Booing him isn't going to give him confidence. I can't get behind fans booing a player when they gave Moyes a standing ovation and begged for ETH to stay.

Why wasn't the worst manager in the history of our club ever given that sort of reception?

It's nice to have compassion and I do to a certain extent, but when I saw him before the kick off with his socks down and his hands on his hips I laughed. It's hard watching someone subbed in the first half and booed off, but it's not like he hasn't had enough chances or been made aware that he has to show a little bit of effort and at least put a shift in.

He was criminal today - on the ball, off the ball, falling over the ball. His agent and everyone around him should do him a favour and stop pretending he's good enough for this level. I'm honestly not sure he'd be championship level, there are 20 strikers in that league with a better touch than him. It's probably the most damning indictment of Serie A that he ever had any success at all in that league.

Zirkzee went to the dressing room instead of the bench. Does anyone know if he came back or perhaps left the stadium?

I'm in two minds, as I agree the fans are hypocritical and weird. But OT really needs to start setting standards for the team, too placid and friendly 99% of the time.

Why do people care so much about someone that doesn't give a damn about them?

He got booed because he was awful if it's upset him so what he needs to grow a pair and get better. Bunch of soft lads nowadays.

Maguire got way worse, disgusting abuse and came back stronger.
It's just empathy mate (imagining how it must feel), it's not a bad thing.

...and it was shit when it was Maguire too, hopefully he can bounce back quick sharp

Reading some of the comments you'd think United fans were pelting him with bags of literally dog shit or something.

They booed him off. He has been shit pretty much the entire time and looks like an actual beer league player out there. Woe is him throw his little hissy fit. I'm sure he has no problem cashing the nice little increase in checks he got
Anything other than full throated applause and affirmation from the fans (regardless of performance levels) is considered abuse on the Caf. Zero standards.

Perhaps there's already something in the pipeline for him in January and he felt this could be his last game at OT, if so subbing him before half time is pretty brutal.

Apparently he was close to tears, so he clearly does care.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I think he's a much better player than Hojlund and will have a better career than him (albeit back in Italy where he's more suited).

I feel for him in the sense that he has been somewhat singled out, but as you say he deserved it in my view and there are a few more who have it coming.

Yup, in fact they themselves are more culpable for the shitshow of this season than Zirkzee.

Might not see him for a while. The crowd really had enough of him tonight.

At this moment in time, he is the worst forward to have played for the club in my lifetime.

The whole timing of the boo's was bad for him, but he wouldn't be in this mess if he actually put in effort which he rarely does.

No its not, but as a professional footballer its not on the fans to do anything to give him confidence.

At this point having a chip on his shoulder because he audibly knows the fans are fed up with him might be the only thing left to try with him. I personally wouldnt boo a player, but I wouldnt pick a player who performs like that. Surely that must have been very different from in training, so I'll assume Amorim wont pick him again now that hes had that performance. If he does I hope its because theres been a reaction and hes ready to prove people wrong. If he gets picked again and performs the same I'll start to think that Amorim is as poor as Zirkzee.

I don’t care how poor he was, booing him was unacceptable IMO. Boo the team, sure, but singling out a young player like that, is not what our club is supposed to be about.

On a human level I felt sorry for him being subbed off after 30 mins and having it cheered by your own fans.

I think his confidence is shot to shit, probably irreparably so.

He was diabolical though.

Couldn't agree more

If thats the way you feel about it then I suppose you should feel the same towards Amorim. He picked him and knows his limitations. I’m sure Zirkzee is trying his best. It may not be good enough but thats not on him. He doesn’t deserve to be singled out for christ sake.

When things aren't clicking the players that'll get the most stick is the ones which body language is the worst.

It may be his style or whatever but he's jogging around the pitch, at least show some fecking fight. Cant stand players like that.

It's not wrong to feel sorry for the lad, he will be distraught with this no matter what his bank balance looks like. It's human to feel empathy.

Harsh because he's a young lad and I'm sure that had Casemiro or Eriksen been hooked, the reaction would have been the same

However...he's a very strange signing. No obvious position, not a goalscorer, not a #10, no pace, not aggressive.

You look at his profile and his goal record...he's not getting into a very average Holland side ahead of Wout Weghorst...alarm bells were ringing.

He's the kind of slow moving technical football that can only really do well in Holland and Serie A. He has some positive attributes but the games far too quick for him.

I feel sorry for him that he was given that reception, really whoever OKd the signing should be taking that heat.

He's not a young player ffs. Should be entering his best years.

So the crowd shouldn't recriminate anyone? this club shouldn't be about players feeling supported it should be about winning and success.

I know it's sad to see a young players being booed but maybe when/if he plays next time he'll remember to give his all on the pitch instead of jogging around.

This are profesional players at the highest level, effort is not a luxury. It should be demanded at all times, I can accept shit performances it happens. But combine a shit performance with a lazy one and you're going to get that reaction.

Absolutely right. Embarrassing reaction from fans to single out a young player literally just arrived at the club. This club is rotten to the core....
