I wonder if the people who said that we had a better season than Spurs last year because we won two shite trophies while they finished second will say that we’ve had a worse season this year if we don’t win the FA cup.

I doubt it.
im one of those and i will defiantly say we had a better season. Last season we had the 2nd best squad in the league and we finished 5th, thats wasn't good enough. Yes we won two lesser competitions, but the football we played especially in the Europa league was depressing and considering we where the best team a in that competition with by far the biggest budget winning that wasn't an incredible achievement.

This season it looks like we are going to finish 2nd, which if we are going on squad quality and budget is exactly were we should be finishing. So while last season results wise I would rank us as below Par, this season i would say we are on Par as to where we should be results wise.

So i wouldn't say Mourinho is doing an amazing job, getting the second best team in the league to finish second while playing mostly utterly morbid football is hardly something to shout from the roof tops, but it is still an improvement on finishing 5th and at least we arn't underperforming results wise in the league any more.

This was a ridiculous discussion last season and would continue to be so. It takes a simplistic mindset not to understand that success and progress in sport are not one in the same.

We'll have had a better season just less succesful. No one remmeber progress, they do remember decoration.

Has Spurs won anything this year?

It was second versus two trophies though.
2 cups is better than a league runners up position imo, I mean do you feel much better as we stand?

We clearly progressed in the league and as a team. Sure some games were bad (not morbid bad though) but generally it was a good season and it will be a good one even if we dont win the FA cup. Sure trophies last season were good but league form was terrible and this season we'll effective in the league as you get.

Sevilla match is a stain on the season and hopefully we'll rectify that next season.

Whatever Jose does there will be some who wants him to fall and will twist absolutely everything so it suits their agenda. Sometimes it's painful to read it.

I don't understand how anyone can still fixate on the Sevilla game, if you look at the games before and after Sevilla. The idea that, the loss to Sevilla is indicative of a fundamental problem with his management has been to bed quite convincingly.

The Sevilla loss was due to overconfidence, he thought Fellaini could do a job on them. Against Liverpool, Chelsea and City he used a respectful setup. Twice he used two DMs in Matic and McTominay and once he used a triple midfield.

I think £150 million is what we can spend, unless we sell players.

150m is what he's got per season so far (including money recouped). Think his January beef with the press was about needing more than the 150m. If what comes in can be reinvested on top of that figure, that could be somewhere between 200-250m.

The way prices are now, a top defender will cost £50 million at least. Will be an interesting summer.

If we are buying quality in LB, RB, CB, MC (leaving aside the right-wing and whether we go 433 or 523 next season) that's a lot of money. But if Jose gets the same as last couple of seasons to spend plus what he makes from sales it's doable. Such an important time and we've got a World Cup in this window. Would be fantastic to have 2-3 players signed up before the tournament.

Who do you think we will sell? At the moment it looks like Blind, Darmian and Shaw are done here. Jones might be in danger with his injuries and us linked with CB’s.

Bailly, Smalling, Jones, Lindelof, Blind. I doubt we are going to bring in a CB. Lindelof and Blind hardly plays even with the injuries.

LB, a couple of CMs. And a RW hopefully.

Jones is never fit and Blind doesn’t play much, and when he does it’s not at CB.

I think this just emphasises the fact that United and Mourinho are still on a budget, unlike the FM cheat mode spending of Pep and City. There’s just no way that we can go and spend 4 x 50 plus million on a new defence.
Good to see option 1 slowly moving up. Did any of the option 2 and 3 voters have a realistic alternative to Jose? Are there still people that want Pochettino? We could end up 10 points or more ahead of Spurs this season!
Those figures on the poll must have been boosted by sleeper oppo fans mascarading as United fans. Either that or a large amount of spoilt younger fans who have never known anything but glory times.
There is no better/sensible option than to back Jose.

We are going I spend a fortune this summer. Mourinho is just not announcing his open cheque book to the Football Chairmans of this world.

That could work... If all the deals were arranged before any are announced. Otherwise, as soon as one big signing comes, sellers add the usual extra United tax.
Either way, hopefully it’s all done and dusted before the World Cup.

I really wanted Jose right after Alex and was glad when we eventually got him.
He has done a good job this season, although I think 2/3rd should have been bare minimum anyway to be honest.

The only real issue I have with Mourinho right now is that I think we would get more out of the squad starting matches on the front foot.
We are so reserved and when it comes to talent, we are very top heavy.
City and Liverpool's defences aren't anything to shout about, but as they play on the front foot and dominate their matches. My biggest complaint with Jose right now is that, starting matches aggressive would get the most out of the players we have.

The club should sell; Jones, Blind, Young, Fellaini. Possibly Herrera?

Young because he is getting on a bit now, so we should get a world class left back with Shaw as back up. That first half against City showed Young’s flaws. He is good but he is only going to go backwards as he ages.

I say Herrera possibly, because he has been poor for most of the season.

Pogba, Matic, McTominay, Pereira, and a world class CM, should be enough? Maybe bring in a second very good CM, to offer more choice. But logically, we will keep Herrera.

Who said I didnt?

It is undeniable that Sevilla are not the worst team we lost to this season. Huddersfield, Newcastle and Bristol City are worse.

It is also undeniable that beating Wigan is far easier than beating Sevilla.

I simply take issue with people making things up to justify an agenda. We played shite against Sevilla, and the manager got the tactics wrong. You don't have to start lying about other things for that to be a fact.

Bang on point.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see either Jones or Smalling leave to make room for a leader at the back (if one is available). We might do without a RB if we go with Tony/Young for the RB next season.

Get two fullbacks and two midfielders and we should be good to go.
His priority has to be getting a system that gets the absolute maximum out of the players he has.

And your reasoning is pi** poor. How many teams outside of top 2 in their respective leagues have won domestic cups or CL in last 10 years? I am sure very few. As per your logic, there should be many because other than top 2 teams in the league are cup teams and they have nothing to play for in the league!!!!

League rank does not lie and it is not without a reason why Sevilla are 7th in the league. No matter how you want to twist it, the fact is Sevilla is not good enough to be higher in the league. They are no Pub team, and i never said that, maybe your comprehensive skills are not good either. But Sevilla are no CL winners either.

Also, you dint answer my earlier question - how many cup teams were there out of 32 teams in CL this season?
A simple question for you - Who do you think is better - Us or Sevilla?

You are one shite poster @Swift Football.

AC Milan 2003 & 2007 - Champions League winners and great great sides.

2003 in Serie A - 3rd
2007 in Serie A - 4th

That's a cup team, and I've got a tonne more examples where that came from. We were shite against Sevilla, just as we were against Porto, Leverkusen and a shit load of other teams down the years in the CL... get over it.

Well said.

I've been saying this for a while now, whereby alleged "fans" of MUFC, do nothing but berate our manager and players. Even Woodward gets flack.
Meanwhile, these same people praise Pep and MCFC.
There are also some who say that watching us play is torture. The match day threads have a lot of people hurling abuse at our own team.
The question arises that if they hate our team so much, why bother watching them?

My belief is that these are not MUFC fans, but probably MCFC or LFC fans, who are making accounts on here, to spread negativity towards MUFC, while being positive towards our rivals.
I think it was a fantastic idea where some users have had "MCFC Lover" or "Scouse Lover" printed across their usernames. This way, we can identify them as having agendas against MUFC.

Jose and our players have done a fantastic job this season and last. 2 trophies last season and we have slowly improved and are now ready to challenge for the title next season. Only MCFC's record breaking exploits were able to prevent us from winning the title this season. In other years, our points total would've been good enough to win the title. League-wise, since SAF left, this has been our best season and I expect another improvement next season, which should be good enough to clinch the title.
Honest question, Do you go to the games?

Lots of the comments on here have mirrored the comments by many I have talked to at the games.
Not abuse, but lots of concern over style and tactics, frustration at how a team full of attacking players can perform so poorly at times and exasperation at the managers tactics.
For me these are all legitimate concerns and do not make these fans ( myself included) less of a fan than you or others.
We have made progress in the league that is a given but concern over tactics and managerial ethos remain.

Now the league results of the last month have smoothed the water for sure but they don't negate the criticisms of earlier in the season....will we play like that when it actually really matters and there is more than bragging rights at stake?

Honest question, Do you go to the games?

Many of our match-going fans are a nightmare though, a right whiney bunch. I moved my ST's in 2011 because I couldn't stand a bunch of the blokes around us, after so many years it just became too much. I'm certain they've never kicked a ball themselves in their lives. Same blokes used to whinge like mad at Ronaldo, fecking Ronaldo.

Yeah true, but I wouldn't associate with that sort.

Expecting to see Jones,Darmian, Fellaini and Shaw to leave, maybe even Martial or Mata, what we can be confident about is the fact Mourinho wants the best to be the best!!

Well Mata and Martial have easily been amongst our best players this season

You are shittier. So you have one example to prove that?!!
For ur every one example, I have 5 examples to prove otherwise comfortably.

Do you also believe the earth is flat? Or that it is ruled by Alien reptile men?
I find it laughable the lengths some will go to to pretend everything is rosey. Some people just simply aren’t happy with it. Doesn’t mean that they are undercover spies.

A lot of the people I read complaining about Jose is based more so on his tactics and his beliefs.

Aye but if Liverpool finish 4th with the champions league trophy and we are 2nd we’ve still totally had a better season than them right?

Have had enough honestly just leave please thanks for some of the wins but simply not made for this club.

I dunno how you can beat Chelsea, Liverpool & Spurs at OT & then lose to West Brom.

Mata should please retire....
