I don't think he's the right fit and we should be planning for his departure

I'm not into sacking managers every two years so I would hang onto him until we have the right man to take us forward

someone who embodies the values of United...who that is, I don't know

could have made changes after 20/30 mins instead of waiting until into the second half though

left us very vulnerable to that away goal, being ineffective for so long in the game

Yes, he got it all wrong. We are good at home, there was no need to be scared of Sevilla. Muriel wouldn't even cut it at West Brom.

Mou got it wrong yesterday and it was a very poor result but those calling for him to be sacked are on a different planet.

Ronaldo and Hazard had their best seasons under Mourihno; Lukaku is not only scoring but also improving in other aspects of his game; KDB and Salah were too young and spent a few seasons in Germany and Italy developing before coming back to EPL (not to mention there were better players in their positions and Chelsea finished 3rd and 1st in back to back seasons); Martial is doing ok; Sanchez just joined; Pogba is the only one really under performing.

Having said this, I think that the major problem with Mourihno's approach is that he trusts his players too much and gives them too much freedom. He has done this during his entire career. The problem is that he doesn't have intelligent players in this team, and they are failing to figure it out on their own. There are only two solutions to this problem: start providing (much) more instruction or sell them and get players that suit his management style.

To be clear, when I say lack of intelligence I'm referring to the incredibly frustrating failure to execute the simplest things, anticipate obvious situations, or constantly choosing the wrong option in a given situation. For example; Lukaku shooting today instead of passing to wide open Rashford who was wide open in front of the goal. Other examples:

Martial - simply fascinating how often he manages to lose the ball in promising counterattacking situations because he tries to do a little too much than the situation requires or get just that tiny bit too close to the defender and get the ball knocked away.

Pogba - what an absolute waste of physical and technical talent! A complete absence of situational awareness. He will try the same fancy trick or pass in attack and in defense, when winning and when losing, in minute 1 and in minute 91, at Old Trafford and in the little park behind the building with his friends. Just a child enjoying the game of football and how dare anyone ask him to be responsible and maybe play a bit of defense!?

Lingard, Rashford and Lukaku at least play hard and have the right attitude, so I can't criticize them too much. Rashford is very frustrating at times as well (like today with those free kicks, and why can't those crosses ever find a teammate?).

So to summarise last night was Pogba's and Martials fault ?

Thats just naive. That would be how klopp would do it. Ugly football works, why do you think Burnley are doing so much better than other better endowed sides.

Tonight we executed the plan for 60 minutes then stopped after pogba came on and promptly loss. That doesn't mean the plan was bad. We just didn't keep to it.
If that is his master plan for all games, please clear out his office right now. I will support a manager who isn't a coward.

Let's be honest, who here will miss him? We are all afraid of another rebuild and of who's available. How many would miss him because of him, though?

Think it's safe to say it looks like Mourinho is finished as top manager unfortunately. He obviously can't adapt to the modern game and the game has passed him by. To the people saying 'back him', have you heard his quotes after the game? He thinks more money is the solution to this problem and that sums up why he can't adapt.

Don’t like sacking managers but if he left tomorrow or in the summer it wouldn’t bother me one bit. Actually I might even be happier if he left in the summer.

You know it is possible to criticize Mourinho for mistakes he made last night and the team's poor performance and still think he is the right man for the job.
Just a reminder.

I want him gone before he sells one of our promising talents just because they don't fit his shite on a stick system.

Trouble is I don't know who we'd replace him with. Tbh I'd take Poch even if he hasn't won anything - I'd rather we were enjoyable to watch instead of enduring appalling football while only having shite trophies to show for it.

Spends close to a billion and goes out against Sevilla at Old Trafford. Playing a defensive game at home as if he managed Stoke and faced Barcelona.

It’s not the players anymore. It’s Jose.

Don't want him out but he got it completely wrong last night and I'd feel better if he owned up to that. I think the players would appreciate the honesty too instead of all the nonsense excuses he's throwing around.

He'll never admit it but I think he thought Sevilla would be a push over (and for the most part they were ffs)

This was always going to be the case with Jose. His hiring was more out of necessity due to where we were than anything else.

As we’ve improved since he’s arrived I’m still backing him despite last night’s disaster. Since he’s arrived, we have a better squad, are regularly competitive in competitions and making our way back up the league. This is undoubtedly a hell of a lot better than Moyes or LVG.

But do I want us to have to have Jose? Not really - in an ideal world we’d be playing attractive football and competing. As it seems like we’d be unable to attract top managers who play this way currently, Jose’s our man.

Did he really word it as "nothing new for this football club"? What the feck?

Mou got it wrong yesterday and it was a very poor result but those calling for him to be sacked are on a different planet.
You do realise the way we played in the first leg and tonight in the first half is the way Jose wants us to play. That is the best football according to him. Do you really think people who don't want that sort of football are from another planet.

Agreed. He got it wrong last night, it happens. Even SAF got it wrong on occasion, although difficult to believe if you read this thread.

The histrionics on the caf is laughable.

Good balanced post. Mourinho's doing his best in his own way but it really is sad to see how poor his game management is now. Getting José in was a reactive move by United, one that never should have happened as he's just a bad fit here. The board reacted to Guardiola going to City and panicked thinking they'd better get his old rival in, just to basically keep up with the Joneses.

Mourinho's shot through of the game, especially he is obsessed with battling the posession based, high press, attacking style of Guardiola and others to the point that his modus operandi, his progressively chronic conservatism has become pathological. With United's firing power all he needed do was let the players off the leash to enjoy themselves and that would have been an easy win. Instead we were anxious, pathetic and shamefully cowardly at home to a team in 5th place in la liga.

I feel sorry for our flair players who look crippled with anxiety. No movement, no chemistry and no creativity, instead they have to play hoof ball to bypass midfield. Same shyte over and over again. I don't want to see Mourinho at United after the summer for another frustrating season of stifled stodge. Hopefully the board will have seen enough.

I agree with you we shouldn't have a massive clear out as we've got a good team put together now. We do need a couple of class defenders and a controlling midfielder to back up what is our best set of attacking players since Fergie's time.

Most of all, we need a creative attacking and contemporary manager who can coach fluent football that gets the most out of our footballers.
We are far better than that stench of a performance.

Mourinho's steadied the ship to a degree and we thank him for that but the danger is now that given another season he will not only continue to stifle our creativity but may go on to destroy everything good that he has put in place.

Top post.

Done with him. His managing style is not made for this club. His so called game plan last night was unforgivable for me.

Did he get it wrong? Yes.

Should he be sacked? Absolutely, categorically, no.

Anyone who thinks the opposite is in my view on a different planet.

We need to change the board choosing mangers as well. You can't go from a possession based style (LVG) to no possession football (Jose). Barcelona, Juventus, heck even Liverpool despite changing several managers play almost the same way. We need that continuity and the board needs to realize that or be revamped as well.

We beat Chelsea, coming from behind - Mourinho is a genius. We come from behind and win it for a second time in about a week - the boys are warriors and Mou is up there with the greats because of his subs. We beat our fiercest rival, Mourinho is a tactical mastermind, all hail him. Second place is 99% certain, which is a huge improvement after the SAF era, we're in seventh heaven.

The game vs Sevilla ends, Mou is trash, the players are worthless, this club is a disgrace. I mean, come on, what is this whinefest. This place is awful. It's as if we've been eliminated by Girona, Las Palmas or any of their kind. It's Sevilla. They trashed the Scouse scum a few years back to win their third consecutive LE title. We've won it the year after. We're currently.on their level, no way around it. And it's not because we're that bad, it's because they are not as bad as we think they are.

Man up, people. No need of going through the same cycle every time we win a bunch and then lose/draw a game. We can't win them all. Be patient and support your club, unlike the few, who booed and whistled last night.

Says it all that he still retains the support of so many. He's now openly mocking us. I'm finished with this football club until he's gone. History will not be kind to this moment, and a lot of you are on the wrong side of it.

So you want to sack the manager and the board?! Come off it, at least try and put a realistic point forward

Finished with the football club because you don’t like the manager, really?

What pisses me right off, and its happened alot of times this season.....its when mourinho talks to the opposition manager during the game on the touchline.....laughing and smirking, when on the pitch we are playing fecking shite.

So we should just accept poor football and Jose's shocking attitude because we beat Liverpool? Give me a break.

Doesn't make you anymore of a t0p red by being completely deluded either. Sevilla are a poor side and are the worst they have been for the last 5 years. Absolutely no excuse for not beating them last night with the talent we have.

I’m just frustrated knowing we will have to endure this shit for another season. If he would learn from his shortcomings and mistakes in order to adapt, sure, I’d give him time. But he will never change, he will continue to tinker with the line-up, play it “safe” (i.e. hoofball) in big matches and never let the players off the leash when it matters the most.

I think more than the result it is the constant negative, reactive football that is turning people on Jose. It is okay to lose, but at least give it a go before losing.

Also, which players are really performing right now, apart from one or two there is no spark at all. No wonder fans are annoyed.

Eibar thrashed Sevilla 5-1. They are woeful. And Montella is no tactical genius.

It is a huge, huge embarrassment for our club and Jose, especially losing at OT. Make no excuses for it, Jose deserves to be criticized and pointed at for atleast a month for overseeing this disaster right after his contract extension. Maybe dock his wages too, though that won't happen.

But of course, I don't want him sacked when he's got us to 2nd in the league and is still in the FA Cup, besides the two trophies and fairly decent signings so far.

Worst jose performance here, maybe ever. I am his huge fan, but yesterday he blew it. I always defended him because he had results and played defensive only in big away matches which i can accept. Because of all that , sevilla game and result was a big shock for me. Everything that he did yesterday was wrong.
1) sanchez on the left
2) defensive approach at home against only solid team like sevilla
3) rashford on the right where he didn't play any decent game so far
4) mata on the bench leaving us without any creative player
The worst thing is that i have a feeling if we attacked them, we would win without problem.

For future he must resolve players positions and best starting lineup and stick with that. He must do something with pogba. And he must start to playing more fluid football. This is not working in a long run.

Finished with the football club because you don’t like the manager, really?

It's not about not liking the manager or liking the manager. It's MUCH deeper than that. Not that many of the Johnny Come 90's on here would understand.

Add throwing in Fellaini in midfield, who hasn’t started in months. Absolutely pathetic.

You really need your drop this agenda you have against Pogba and Martial, nobody is buying it. They didn't even start yesterday and they are no less intelligent than Sanchez who although talented makes a ridiculous amount of rookie decision for a veteran or Fellaini who he loves like a son. It's such a lazy classification

It’s the morning after and I don’t want to say sack him just yet, but last night was appalling. To play like that at Old Trafford in a CL knockout phase is almost unforgivable. This club must, MUST play attacking football. And the problem now is that Jose probably will not change his style, so how far can he take us playing like this? I’m tending to agree with those saying the game has moved on since his tactics were successful.

It's not about not liking the manager or liking the manager. It's MUCH deeper than that. Not that many of the Johnny Come 90's on here would understand.

But you said you’re finished with the club until he manager is gone. Seems strange, especially for someone who is clearly a long term supporter.
