You give him 250M more, he'll buy players and play the same shit on a stick football again. You can't teach an old dog new tricks.
I think you're right but surely the club knew that when they appointed him and gave him a new contract? He's always played an ugly style of play and his way has always been to spend big and expect the attacking players to work it out for themselves, that's nothing new. We've given him a new contract so we have to give him big money this summer and hope that he gets his signings right (they've been a mixed bag in his time here) and we can win something, despite his flaws he is a serial winner.

It would be nice to think that the club are thinking of the type of manager who in the future (whenever that may be) could make us an exciting, attacking team again, we've been the most boring and unappealing to watch of the top 6 for years now, and that has been caused by appointing 3 negative managers in a row but I suspect that not 1 second of thought has gone into it.

Mou: "I've sat in this chair twice before, with Porto - Man Utd out, with Real Madrid - Man Utd out, so this is nothing new for this football club." #MUFC

Feck off Mourinho. Get out of my club.

He seriously said that? Cnut if true!

I will be very surprised if he sees out 3 years with us. That's not because I think he won't do well relatively speaking. He might still win a FA Cup this year and the narrative will be 3 trophies and the highest league finish post Fergie which you have to admit is a great narrative and cannot be called a bad job. I will be however surprised if he remains with us because his approach simply leaves zero room for mistake. It leaves such a sour disgusting taste in the mouth that the hangover from it is too great. People wonder why Klopp or Poch do not get the same criticism and apart from the financial disparity, the simple reason is there is no hidden malaise and resentment regarding how they approach games, it gives those managers more room for mistakes. With Mourinho, it's just always simmering, it is always on the fence that one shocking result like tonight's and all the reservations, lack of inspiration and general skepticism over the approach come back in full force.

I think this highlights a major problem he's having here. For all his defensive pragmatism in his previous jobs he's been able to back it up by having delivered something substantial by his second year, if not his first - I'd argue he's improved and stabilised us but throughout his career he's been known as a consistent, unapologetic winner as opposed to a stable influence.

Some seriously emotional people here.

He got it wrong tonight. Get over it. Stop using childish words like "coward" and such.

In a league consisting of Conte, Klopp, Wenger, Poch and Pep amongst all your rivals you don't comfortably sit 2nd in the league by being a coward. You don't manage a side that scores the 3rd highest goals in the league by being a coward. You don't have 2 Champions Leagues to your name by being a coward and have a CV like he does from being a coward either. His post match interview is reminding the short minded media (and clearly many posters here) what he's all about.

Ferguson was dumped out by Leverkusen in one season and there were 1 or 2 instances where he didn't even make it through the group stages. This shit happens and no manager gets every big game right. Get over it. He has us improved us considerably and just be patient that he'll take us further where we need to go.

we had 4 shots on target over the 2 legs ... defend that

I think against bilbao, it was in the group stages round 5/6 i dont remember. Yes, europa in case of ajax.

Point being made that every good manager can have a bad day in the office.
Against Bilbao too it was Europa. Fergie has had bad days in office. But his teams were never cowards or set up like cowards. Rven whrn he lost, he did so by playing attacking football 99% of the times. Please, fo God's sake, don't compare Fergie to Mourinho.

And prior to all those ties Fergie had won multiple leagues and cups for us, had already won the CL, and had done it all playing great football. Mourinho isn't fit to be compared with him.

Ferguson actually under performed in the Champions League during that phase, actually.
Even still, it doesn't change the fact that top managers can get big games wrong. Calling Mourinho a coward after he sits 2nd with a very respectable goals scored/conceded ratio is nothing short of hilarious.

Not even surprised. Another Mourinho-special. Yes we did beat Chelsea and Liverpool - but we have come to the point where we need to outsmart our opponents to win football games. At Old Trafford we should run riot over a team like Sevilla.

Players let him down but that line up and set up was absolute horseshit and it was obvious after 20 minutes it was going to go badly, for someone usually quick to change a glaring mistake, to let it linger for another 55 minutes as a shambles. Starting Fellaini today might rank up there with the worse decision he's made since being at the club. This game was crying out for Mata and McTominay, players good at keeping the ball and keeping things ticking. Shifting Rashford out on the right after Saturday, another shambles of a decision. A complete mess of a night from manager through to players.

He really say that?
He said that on his post press conference. He is giving credit himself to kicked us out of CL 2 times after we lost. He is looking for himself, not for the club. Coward.

Jeezus...

Why not just sack him and move on? The football is going to be exactly the same regardless of signings and football has moved on. You cannot play like that anymore, the average number of goals has risen dramatically since he last won the CL.

There is literally no point to having Mourinho if you aren't at the top and winning, because you sacrifice everything else to be in that position. Without winning he gives you nothing but frustration and it's honestly horrible to watch us.

I’m losing faith in him but I cannot see us improving under anyone else. Which manager is available that could take us forward from here? I’m struggling to see it.

Why did he started Fellaini tonight? literally the most important match till date to us. I can take McTominay offers little to attack but at least he offers balance something Fellaini know nothing about it.
Lingard over Mata? Sevilla are not that fecking rapid in attack.

Jose can stay for another season for me. But please, no more Fellaini, let him go Jose. And be more expansive (which he will not and never will)

Ok I've relaxed now. Other than the fact we played terribly and lost in the process I thought we were ok overall.

Did he definitely say that?

This. How many times have United gone out of the CL? Well, they have won it three times, do the math. The world will still be here tomorrow - Unless Trump is a United fan.

David Moyes oversaw our most successful CL campaign of the last seven seasons. That includes Fergie's last two years.

I don't think he'll get the sack in the summer. I wouldn't sack him either but on the other hand I'm torn. It was so beautiful on Saturday but today broke him a bit.

What did you find beautiful about that 2nd half?

To be quite honest, I don't think it is. We are out of the C.L against a very mediocre side because we are playing chicken-football. We don't take any risks - and tonight we paid the price.

The only time he's offensive is when he's got a chance to toot his own horn. He'll grab that with both hands!

I'm telling you right now that Poch would improve our style dramatically. It's surely worth a go? This is crushing seeing us like this.

He should be chased out of Old Trafford if he actually said that.

I'm not even bothering trying to defend his tactics or outlook to the game today. I know he got it wrong. I'm just annoyed at posters extrapolating this to the general picture of him managing us, almost as though they refute that he's improved us massively even since last season let alone under Van Gaal. He will get us there, just have some patience.

Agreed but there’s no chance he leaves Spurs any time soon imo.

Cannot believe that last comment. That angers me almost as much as when Moyes said we should aspire to be like City...

The one fair criticism of Mourinho has been the attack. He's left it to sort itself out, and tonight that wasn't good enough. He has to take ownership of this problem. He inherited a poor attack, but how he's reformed it flags compared to the rest of the changes he's made since joining the club. Either he gets his arms around this problem and takes responsibility or United will continue to be less than the some of its parts going forward.

Mourinho doesn't have a Rene Muelensteen type of figure on his staff. His staff is set up to support him not offset his weaknesses. He's in charge. If this isn't something he can personally sort out, he needs to get the right man in to do it. That's his responsibility as manager of this club.

I refuse to believe he said that. What kind of deluded self-obsessed f... oh right its Mourinho. feck off Mourinho. It's been evident that hes never really cared for the club from the hotels, family in london and comments about our fans.

He's going to have to pull off a worldie next season to come back from this

He would absolutely take up the chance to manage us if we offered it to him. At the end of the day, it's Spurs. We are Manchester United.

He's played ugly football before against better teams. He used to turn up at OT or Anfield and give it a proper go because he felt his Chelsea teams were good enough to get a win. Now he's too scared to play openly against the likes of Sevilla in a round of 16 tie.

We expected some pragmatic football but this is Tony Pulis stuff.

Is it too much to ask for to play attacking football?

What's Tuchel up to?
