A competent director of football with a proper plan of action. Not short-sighted big-name manager appointments and shit signings.

But what competent DOF would agree to be overruled by Woodward and his obsession with brand/shirt signings? Ideally, the owners need to go. But Woodward's role in player acquisitions is a non-starter. He's ill-suited to this position.

If you accept that MUN will always pay the prestige club tax on transfer fees then it's in your interest, as a club, to prep and cultivate these deals so that they get done early. The way the club operates now, they're almost never buying low...Woodward is always multiple transfer windows behind. I couldn't think of a worse time to buy a young English CB...right after a WC where England progressed further than they have in eons.

Can’t decide if it will be November or if he’ll stick till the end of the season either way it’s his last year you can tell before a ball as even been kicked.

This time next summer Poch will be United manager, quote me!

Post-Match: "We started the game with a lot of players who will not be in our squad on August 9. This is not my squad, not even half, not even 30% of my squad. So don't look to this."

What a message to the young players! Textbook positivity which molds strong team cohesiveness. In some unbelievable ways, he's just like Comrade Orange... how does this result make me look? How do I deflect and distract from my failings.? The brand Manchester United may not be suffering in terms of sponsors but this current MUN is at the back of the queue in terms of appeal and excitement for new/fair-weather fans. Who the hell is looking forward to watching 90 mins of United football?

Absolutely nothing wrong in that .Anyone thinks the young players who were out there today should be in the squad come the premiership is seriously deluded .

They are nowhere near ready . People saying Chong should get twelve games this season . He barely deserves 12 mins in the league cup same for Gomez as well .

Out of the team tonight you have Sanchez, Herrera , Fred ,Baily, Mata and possibly Perriera, Mctominay and TMF fighting for squad places with Sanchez the only guaranteed starter out of them

Axel needs another loan where he actually plays this time and the rest are not good yet at least and in Darmians case on the way out

So who's taking his place?

Pochettino/Jardim?

Madrid already approached Nagelsmann this summer. If Carrick or McKenna or someone was caretaker until next summer (dependent on when Mou were to leave) it may be worth making a play for the German. I know he's allegedly turned them down to move to Leipzig next season, but it would at least be worth a shot.

Poch would be ideal, but I don't see us getting him any way short of waiting until he's out of contract.

"Look, do you want him to be very happy with the players he has around him? We are here just to survive and to have some not very ugly results. Alexis is the only striker we have. And the poor man is there trying his best."

There's no reason to put down the kids.

Hahaha Mourinho having a meltdown already. Classic 3rd season coming... I've long since mentally accepted it.

Can't wait til he's out of the club. Hopefully this is the last season of it. And hopefully we get our priorities in order and realize that entertainment actually does matter at United.

You know the quote were fake right? Doh.

Not about those quotes but he still had some pretty shit ones. Guy is complaining non stop and blaming everyone and saying it's not even his own team. Stop complaining and do your fecking job. Team doesnt play well even when he has everyone.

It's not even August yet and he's managed to throw all his toys out of the pram, pit himself against a large part of the squad and continue acting like the whole world is against him. Colour me surprised.

The World Cup was just beautifully refreshing from this shite. I can’t be arsed with another season of tumescent garbage. That game tonight is hardly indicative of anything but the whole of last season is when you consider how we’ve barely signed anyone or shifted out any deadwood. Optimism seems to be as low as I can remember going into the season. I did still hold out some hope but the way Jose is behaving is just doing my head in. Miserable, moany nonsense with one ridiculous quote after another. He is inspiring no confidence.

That isn't how leadership or human management works. How many times can he lose his dressing rooms before he starts learning

Well if we are to sign just one player I hope it’s not a CB, he’s signed 2 already and with the others on the books we must have about 5 in total.

We’re desperate for a right winger that should be a higher priority.

You don't understand man management then or how this attitude affects players wanting to come to MUN. What's the purpose in even saying this? What's the point ( going back multiple transfer windows) in talking about lists and when he gave them to 'Mr. Woodward' and talking about how it's out of his hands? Who wants to follow a guy who's is obsessed with preemptively shifting blame and responsibility.

The progress in 2 years under Mourinho has been largely extremely positive. The quality of the squad has certainly improved, the club is now selling unwanted players for decent money rather than giving them away and on the pitch the team has become much harder to beat. The football isn't great but that doesn't bother me much.

What really worries me is the ongoing conflict between Jose, his squad and the powers that be in the club. Nobody seems on the same page, which from a player perspective came to a head when the club signed Sanchez. United were on a fantastic run, playing good football and had added an attacking fulcrum that the team desperately needed. At the time they were clearly the second best team in England and this should have been the catalyst to challenge City but instead the wheels came off, Pogba started acting like a 2 year old who had his favourite toy taken away and it signalled the end for Martial who was in good form at the time.

There's no unity in the club, Jose makes constant confrontational remarks in public about Woodward and the players. I'm sure he has his reasons but the impact is nothing positive.

There's a really good chance that this will be his last season but it is nothing to do with his ability as a coach, his tactics or recruitment of players. It's all down to him as a person and his ability (or lack thereof) to maintain ongoing sustainable and positive relationships with his work colleagues and even the media.

There were plenty of articles after the world cup about what Jose should learn from Pogba's performance. What he would have learned is that he was right in thinking Pogba is at his best in a deeper midfield role and that the only obstacle to Pogba being successful there is Pogba himself. The worry is that he cannot get through to Pogba to make him realise that. The other major worry is that the squad took the signing of a top class attacking player as a negative. What successful team does that?

My biggest reason for wanting Mourinho at United was to instil a winning mentality that was absent since Moyes replaced Fergie. That he hasn't been able to do that in 2 years is a major concern for both him and the club.

It’s a dig at the other players that played in the World Cup pretty much that are choosing a holiday rather than being “committed” to the team.

No. It’s not. You should listen to the audio as well.

Its always everybody else's fault. Hmm, don't we use this to mock some team?

I wish that sometimes Mourinho would choose to remain silent. Just because you are speaking the truth doesn't mean it's appropriate. That was not a good presser. It made the situation look really bad and adds fuel to the fire that the media are building.

I not sure who the thoughts expressed at that press conference was for, as a fan, it made be massively depressed and concerned about the season.

If it's an appeal to the board, I hope they heard the message that we need reinforcements and then go and sign somebody.

Don’t forget that he has only 2 or 3 players of his last season.
7 important players are on holiday ,Matic and Valencia injured, so I think we should not judge him right now.

Hoping Mourinho is at least keeping it cool with the players, because he's going off on a few tangents in front of the media. Not saying he's losing his head, but he needs to tone down a bit. People say that we shouldn't care about pre-season results, and to a degree I agree, but it clearly is affecting the manager seeing how unimpressive we're being.

I get a feeling that he's slowly going off the 3rd season rails. I hope he doesn't, because at the end of the day - there aren't many available managers out there who would be able to jump into his place if we get rid of him.

I just hope he doesn't waste the scattered gems he has in his squad. We have a talented squad that he isn't taking advantage over.

This has all the makings of a typical Mourinho meltdown. Excuses in early. If we get off to a bad start, the wheels could really come off.

Honestly I would be happier if we sacked him and just gave the job to Carrick/McKenna as caretaker for the season while we scouted around for someone who actually fits. And then if they actually do well, then let them keep it. It would at least bring a sense of optimism and lift the ever growing dark cloud that Mourinho is bringing over the club with all the constant negativity everywhere. Would at least be excitement of the unknown, which I will gladly take over the complete apathy I feel towards our season coming up

^ We won't need to.. because if he's going against the players, the board will always back him. We dont really have a Ronaldo/Messi type at the club anyways. But if he goes against the board... well good luck jose.

Exactly what I've said in the other thread.
Get some good coaches in to help McKenna. Or ask Rene and Shorts to come back. Carrick is too passive for the assistant role and should just be one of the coaches.
At least McKenna will know how he wants to play. He'll just need to execute it at a higher level. I'd take this option even if we don't make top 4. We're not getting it with Jose in this mood so may as well get rid. It will still cost less to get rid of him than buying one of his desired 30 year old defenders.

We won't have any players left with the way he's carrying on. He's also made it quite clear he doesn't give a feck to the board, and disrespecting them as much as he likes.
