José looking to sign 6 players in summer - 2CM, LB, RB, W, CB [Times]

No matter the transfer window we have, I genuinely don't think we can catch City this season, but it's about closing the gap.
We need to get a mix of ready made and genuine talent to build from. I agree with the 6 positions needed in the title, absolutely, but I'd like to add a 7th and get a backup striker in.

First, we'd have to make room for the players.
I wouldn't be bothered if Rojo, Darmian, Mata and Fellaini left.
I'd still love to see Shaw have a go here, but if Jose isn't for playing him, then he can go to.
Martial. This is a tough one, but Sanchez will be our LW, and the money we'd get for him would go towards a RW and add much needed balance.

Sandro > Shaw
Toby > Rojo
Dalot > Darmian
Fred > Fellaini
RW > Mata (It's one of them positions that always gets overlooked, we really need to address this position with some quality)
CM > Carrick (Young creative midfielder accepting rotation. Torreira would be a great bit of business, especially with the low buyout)
ST > Martial (Somebody ready and willing to be the super sub, not expecting to start many, but has ability)

Has anyone got a list of top-level Right wingers that are attainable and we have been connected with? I would be baffled if we did not address that area. Strangely it does not seem to be one of those positions in football right now where there is a dearth of the usual talent even overhype jobs.

Veratti is 10. At PSG he has taken that role. There was talk he will be given no. 10 shirt. For Italy he wears 10 if I am not wrong.

This transfer window is going to be epic and this only solidifies it.

I reckon 5 signings will get done for certain. Quite possibly a 6th.

;)

Regardless of that tweet, Utd need to have a very effective, purposeful and well executed transfer window. None of this signing of marquee players seemingly just because they were available and not necessarily they’d fit well into the team. No more getting players who don’t want to be here like ADM, no more gambles on players coming off bad injuries like Falcao and no more big names who are over the hill like Schweinsteiger.

If Bale fits well into a potential XI then buy him. If he’s just going to be shoehorned in there in hope he can produce individual magic when our general play looks shit then don’t.

If we’re buying 5-6 players then we really should start seeing some serious progress come the turn of the year, otherwise Jose’s position is under threat. That doesn’t mean if it has to be Harlem Globetrotters football like Liverpool. I’m expecting a deadly yet efficient counter attacking team who’ll make you pay if you mess up once.

That bloke is an absolutely nobody, isn't he? He's been sprouting shite on twitter for years.
He's a very highly respected lawyer in his field. I have no idea if he is ITK or anything like that, but i would say he's well connected in the game and probably has access to agents that regular journalists don't.

I do think we could spend a crazy amount this summer with Fellaini, Carrick and Ibrahimovic’s wages off the books and sales of Darmian, Blind, Rojo, and possibly another 1-2 players.

I’d like to see Andreas Pereira, Tuanzebe and Fosu-Mensah involved in the squad and those three coming in fill some of the holes in the squad.

If we signed Fred, Dalot, Alderweireld, Sandro/Rose and Bale with 6-7 leaving then that would be a great summer.

De Gea
Romero
Pereira

Valencia
Dalot

Bailly
Alderweireld
Smalling
Lindelof
Tuanzebe

Rose/Sandro
Young
Shaw

Matic
Fosu-Mensah
Fred
Pogba
Herrera
Pereira
McTominay

Bale
Mata

Lingard

Sanchez
Martial

Lukaku
Rashford

A summer of five or six quality signings and around the same number of departures would be sensational, but's a lot to do in one transfer window, especially in a World Cup year.

CM1 - check
RB - check
RW - ?
LB - ?
CB - ?
CM2 - Pereira?

1/3 of the spending done, let's hope we can get at least one more signing done before the World Cup. If we're going for Alderweireld, I hope we do so before. WC has no impact on deals for the likes of Sandro and Bale.

I'd be just as happy with Darmian, Blind, Fellaini, Jones and Mata leaving as a new signing - we need to start moving the deadwood.

To catch city we are going to have to be very ambitious in the transfer market, or else they are going to win back to back titles

We need to be careful with how many signings we make. I said before the summer that I only think we really need 2 signings then I guess depth to replace leavers. But the squad we have is talented and summers work should be focused on getting the most out of it. We desperately need a left back and right sided attacker. Still.

It’s sad we’re not in for De Ligt.
I wanted to sign a top RB to replace Valencia, it seems we are going to sign Dalot who has potential. In that case, I would go for De Ligt who is really good right now and he's the most promising CB.

You are crazy if you think all we really need are 2 signings.

Bale/Mahrez/Willian???

Bale/Mahrez/Willian???

These are between unattainable very complicated and unlikely. Which was the point of my post and what I explicitly stated? But to clarify:
  • Bale: RM won't sell and he does not want to come /turned us down multiple times. New manager coming.
  • Mahrez: going to City,
  • Chelsea: unlikely to sell to us after Matic and their managerial situation is all over the place so new manager will review the squad
If those are truly the only options then it compounds the point that there is a shortage of WC/Top end players in that position aside from talented prospects which are a gamble.

I would take any one of them but with all things considered who do we think are the alternatives?

We've been linked with Willian. And then there's Bale and Mahrez but looks like he'll go to City. Personally I'd love someone like Kinglsey Coman. He can play both LW and RW and has big potential. It's clear we need a RW who can beat players with skill. Mata and Lingard are not up to standard.

please see my post just above yours for clarity.

I will have a look at Coman thanks for the tip :)

Edit: Bayern Munich... No chance they sell anyone decent

No chance of Bayern selling though.

That kind of squad is where we will end up.

I think jose wants Shaw out though.

I cant see a place for Mata either, but unlikely we will get everyone out who needs replacing in 1 summer and be stuck with a few for at least another window or 2

Bale is currently unhappy and would move to an elite club that offers him more game time. Its a transfer that can be done.

Mahrez Is likely to go City but if that falls through due to City being impatient or whatever, he's wanted out for a while and would jump at the chance to join us.

Willian is also gettable for the right price.

Alternatives? We aren't linked to many, little whispers of Malcolm perhaps but he is unproven.

Douglas Costa? Hope the rumours of Arnoutovic aren't true.

I see where your coming from, but we have had literally no RW for a few seasons now. We cant keep using Mata/Lingard/Rashford there.

We need to go big for Bale for me

Technically not even Jose knows whether we will have an "effective summer". It all depends on whether we can acquire our transfer targets. So much shite can go wrong in transfer negotiations, we only have to look back a year on the whole Griezmann debacle.

Yeah, we definitely need an RW as our current options are not adequate. We can't rely on any of the transfers of Bale, Willian and Mahrez because each one of them requires exceptional circumstances for them to be available to us and even if the circumstances changed on any 3 of them it does not mean that we are in for them or that we don't have different targets for that position if any.

So to sum it up I wanted to know if there were more clear-cut options out there as relying on something going wrong with one of the other 3 is not a strategy for such a crucial gap in our team.
