Signing more than 3 players or not is the boards call, not Mourinho’s.

José has publicly pleaded we need to sign more to compete with our rivals so there’s no way he gets 3 and then says “no more players needed I’m good”. Last Summer he wanted 4 signings, only got 3 and expressed in interviews how only 3/4’s of what he requested was made possible...this season he’s said we need 2 CMs (one for Carrick and one if Fellaini leaves which seems like will be the case). Still need to address LB, RW, RB, CB as well so yea, no way he stops at 3 lol. If the club does, then it’s the board and not José.
 
3 first team starters minimum requirement in my opinion. Even then I dont think that will be enough to win the league or challenge for the CL.

Rashford is not good enough at 9 and not good enough wide. I really think he would benefit from a loan. Martial doesn't seem to have the trust of Jose and I do not see that changing or him becoming capable of the right hand side. Sanchez now in hindsight seems a bad acquisition and reminds me a lot of Rooney a few years back, never staying in a position and always dropping too deep and looking for the ball.
Pogba really needs to have the team built around him and needs two solid and disciplined midfield players alongside him to flourish consistently, I do not rate Herrera very highly at all and although I like Matic we cant only rely on him as a DM.
Personally I cannot stand Young and Valencia at fullback and Shaw very much like Martial doesn't rub Jose up the right way so if he doesn't leave this summer, will no doubt walk for free next year. Fellaini, Blind, Darmian have to go and hopefully one of Jones or Smalling and I'd offload Mata also.

So if on a budget I would buy one CM a LB and RB as priorities. Then bring back Pereira and Fosu Mensah into first team squad. My dream though, is we have money a plenty and purchase two CMs, two fullbacks and a right sided attacker and CF plus our whole style of play changes to boot as we challenge on all fronts.
However I am not confident in either and fancy another fruitless and boring campaign next season with Jose leaving at the end.
 
IMO the minimum is 4:
-1 new leftback
-1 new rightback
-1 new midfielder
-1 new right winger

That would be sufficiënt if we can keep most our key players (like Pogba and Martial) and we are content with our current centreback options. If not we will go beyond 4 new signings

Don't believe it at all. Back in the Fergie era a signing like that I could probably get on board with and believe, but not in 2018. Bad attitude and I don't really think he's good enough to make the step up.
 


Makes sense since those 2 will be going to the WC.

Sandro (Bale?) isn’t going so it can be done whenever.
 
Imagine if we get Fred, Alderweireld and the young Portugese right back secured in the next 2 weeks, it would leave an entire summer to go for 2-3 more

Looks to be the plan.

If it ends up being the case, no complaints from me and excellent bit of business.

The Portuguese makes a ton of sense considering Valencia isn’t a liability at RB. He plays everyday and is sound but limited offensively but that’s not the end of the world. LB is in shambles in comparison and everyone at the club knows an instant starter is needed there. RB, not so much with Antonio being the excellent servant to the club he is, and this feels the right thing to do. Get a young and capable RB waiting in the wings and let the takeover be a natural process. Valencia is inevitably going to sit out games due to injury and I’m sure José will rest him time to time when he’s healthy as well. Dalot will definitely get his share of games and if he’s as good as advertised, the year after the position will be his. This upcoming season, I see a 50-50 or 60-40 split which is totally fine.

Good post, agreed 100%.

I've noticed he does like to rest Tony V ahead of a top 6 game or a knock out game. This lad will get lots of game time in his favorite position.
 
I normally don't post about transfer rumours but a friend has a source at OT and has apparently been texting me some decent information which is on context with what we've been after.

This is what he sent on May 22nd:

We are close to signing Fred and we are close to signing a right back (isn't revealing the name)

Mourinho in the internal meeting has stated that he wants a another younger CM in the team and a backup option to Lukaku.

A few days later the Fred, Madnzukic and Arnie rumours cropped up.

Two days ago he sent me this:

Remember the right back source said we are close a week back ? That's Diogo Dalot. Mou is almost convinced that he will be our future right back. He's a very highly rated u21 right back.

Mourinho is also interested in Xadas from Braga (a young midfielder).

Now the Dalot news came in yesterday so the real judge of this will be the Xadas rumour.

A bit concerned at some of the names that are being bandied about. We need experienced, top-level starters if we are going to genuinely compete next season. If we bring in some youngsters as well, fair enough, but the main focus should be on players capable of starting week in, week out.

After the unnecessary signing of Lindelof, I sure hope this guy Jose is scouting as our future RB shows some potential of being that.
 
There will be 6 signings yes, maybe more. He's tried the "max 3/4 signings" approach to use the players he has and in his eyes a lot of them failed him so I can see him being fed up and going for the overhaul.

Everything is hindsight BS, except for some obscure player from Braga. So if we do actually sign that player they'll get credit for everything else. This idea that someone is going to leak the details of an internal meeting is ludicrous; they don't just invite some randoms into those.

I agree it appears in hindsight. I only chose to come on here because the other info seemingly came through. It'll be more valid if there's anything about Xadas. And I'm fairly sure it's not the last time we hear from him. Being a newbie, this is the last time I'll be able to post for the day so take it easy mate.
 
Your "mate" dropped a bollock with the info he stole. Xadas wasn't mentioned as a target, he was mentioned as being another hot prospect in that country, nothing more. Nice try though
 
Mourinho said in winter we would sign 2 players after sanchez. Looks like darmian will leave so dalot is our replacement back up right back. If felli leaves I'm guessing we sign another cm. Beyond that probably left back and centre mid in fred and whoever ? Or fred and alderweireld if papers are to be believed.

Every summer every poster says we are 'obviously' going to sign players for 5 or 6 starting positions and every summer they are wrong. Guessing this summer won't be different. If martial leaves we will replace him and if Shaw leaves we might replace him too... do we even replace blind since he doesn't play ?
 
It's 5 and one is a 19 year old right Full back from Porto. So 4 more to go:- LB, CB, and 2 midfielders. No right winger mentioned as yet.
 
So it sounds like we nearly have two of what we wanted sorted. Still tense about the rest.

Didn't most deals used to only happen after the World Cup in the past? I'm sure it always a thing that teams and players would rather wait til after. No one seems to care this summer.

Seems we’re strongly aligned with 4 players if I’m not mistaken:

CM1 - Fred
CB - Alderweireld
RB - Dalot
LB - Sandro

...if those turn out to be true, leaves us with CM2 & RW.


As for the latter, the transfer window is closing nearly a month earlier than previous years so teams will be looking to get their business done soon.

True actually. Fred and Dalot seem the most likely to be happening so far. I'd be over the moon with those and a RW.

Yes, a RW is a must this season. Mourinho also said he wants 2 Midfielders, so we will have to wait and see. maybe he will bring in someone who can play wide, and through the middle.

Yes, we all know what he said about the positions he wanted to address. Backline and Midfield to be the main areas. All I am saying is maybe the second midfielder COULD be one who can also play wide right as well as through the middle.
