This is probably a case of not wanting to back Mourinho because the board know that he will be gone at the end of the season by the latest.

Biggest disappointment since summer of 2013, I honestly can't believe we just made one signing for our first XI in Fred.
Hate to say it but I don't think even Fred will be a regular

I can see Mourinho giving him the Mkhitaryan treatment and not letting him settle

Why would you think that? Mkhi's problem were mostly struggling to settle in at the club and yet he was a regular towards the business end of the season.

Fred has few Brazilians around him, plus he offers a different dynamic to the team which we are lacking. He'll play a big role for us this season.

Silly not to buy a right winger and a defender in any position. A new manager will come in and still need to repair the team, instead of concentrating on improving it like Pep at City, then having real strength in depth.

I just know Mourinho, he doesn't have patience for letting players settle.

Very few Brazilians come to the PL and click straight away.

If Mourinho just provided a list to Woodward, they must have been really dumb picks (not attainable without spending over the odds). In that scenario Mourinho is just as much at fault.

Apparently, Kante was one of them

I really hope we just promote some of the youth guys. It hasn't been a great transfer window but if it opens opportunities for Pereira, Chong , Gomes etc could be ok in the long term

Keyword being one of them. These are professional people who are paid tremendous amount of money to do their job, I really hope folks on this board don't think they're dumb enough to offer full of unattainable names in the list.

Mourinho has spoken about needing a midfielder who can break through the lines, Kante and Fred are quite different in that regards. Again when he's handing the list, it'll contain number of options for each and every position (I remember him saying he gives 4 names for each position). So if few targets are unattainable, you move on to the next one.

To me it's pretty clear, board wants to reign in the spending after last 5 summers. They won't overpay for their targets and deadwood has to be moved before splurging big.

Yeah, you are asking people to get back on the ground, then you come up with this : "if we had a manager who can make his players play better and who wouldnt spend 300m himself over his time here already we would be fighting for trophies easily every season".

Which manager can do that ? Go on.

The only ones who competed are Conte (£320 million over two seasons) and Pep (almost £500 million).

Edit: i agree with the fact that we were never gonna sing any of them. i don't agree with the cheap dig in the bolded part.
bar Pep who spent insanely but made his team play his way and win it. Klopp competed for CHampions league last year spending less till that season, not sure about Conte? he won the league with Moses, Alonso etc. where did you find that 320m? He was a bit lucky not to play cups...

other than that Pochettino, Klopp, Guardiola make their players play better imo, who did Mourinho seriously improved? almost everyone underperformed except maybe Young and Lingard but we were always gonna see the improvement there..

This team has a lot of potential. I am sure other managers would get more out of Martial and Rashford, the same from Lukaku or players like Herrera or worldies Pogba, Sanchez... it doesn't really matter if you finish 2nd or worth imo if you lose 16 points to a winner
