Personally I expect us to sign 1 CM of Jorginho's ilk, whether it be him or someone like him who can dictate play from deep. I don't think we'll sign another CM or at least sign someone specifically for a role in CM. It may come as a byproduct of buying a forward like Lemar who could play there but I think after a deep lying playmaker our attention will move to a forward to rotate with Mane, Salah and Firmino.

To me Jorginho is the ideal player for us and the type of player we're sorely lacking in midfield, someone who can read the game well and play high quality lob or through ball for our forwards to run on to. I definitely expect us to set up in the formation you've just described but I'd expect Ox or Lallana to be where Lemar is personally.
 
That's Jorginho and Fabinho that we've missed on this summer and we still need to strengthen our midfield. Jose and Ed need to remove their heads from their asses and need to start addressing this now before we've lost on quality midfielders

Dont think we will buy a defensive minded midfielder or a passing metronom. If we wanted Fabinho, we could have bought him last summer. Jorginho would be wasted here, since we wouldnt play possession and positional football. We are going for a more mobile box to box one. Fred and Vidal rumours look like it.

I think we need two midfielders. One, a mobile box to box and the other being a deep lying playmaker.
 
Will fit in at liverpool nicely. But is he mobile enough?

Not sure where he would play with us though. He wouldn't displace Matic and he is not a b2b. He wouldn't sit on bench either.

That line up or midfielders of similar ilk, is basically what I expect to happen next season.

Add a defender and that will probably be the sum of our transfers this summer.

CB completely agree! GK, honestly on Karius recent performances I’d be more than happy with him next season, I mean like he’s pulled off world class, “game changing” saves against West Ham, Newcastle and Palace in recent weeks. Only keepers we could buy to improve on his recent performances would Alisson or Oblak and Alisson will be like £50m-£60m at least and Oblak probably his release ie £90m. So if we wanted Jorginho, a top CB and a forward (like Lemar) then not sure we could even afford a £60m+ keeper as well.

Wouldn't that midfield be defensively light? No proper DM in there, no? Even city usually play with a DM in fernandinho. Granted he is much more than a DM but he is a DM nevertheless .

If they do get Jorginho, I'd fancy Gini/Ox and Keita to play ahead of him to add a bit of grit centrally. Against weaker sides they could play a more creative CM with Keita.

Not really, not like we currently play with a DM anyway. Keita also has unbelievable defensive work rate which is where I think we’d make up for not having a true CDM. Pretty sure on average Keita, Jorginho and Lemar make more tackles/interceptions per game than Silva, Fernandinho and De Bruyne do anyway. It’s a similar system to Napoli’s midfield with Jorginho, Allan and Hamsik and it works great for them.

Really hoping he's our number one option. He plays like peak Herrera but with better dribbling and passing. Only downside is his height but we have plenty of giants to compensate. He adds fast transitional play and is box to box, better when partnered with a DM like Matic.

No, he's right. There are a select few central midfielders who can be elite wherever they go and whichever system they're in, but a very, very good one with an incredibly specific game like Jorginho should plan his transfer carefully. He might well need to be in a 3 man midfield with a team that always wants the ball to be a first choice player at a club competing for leagues and Europe, and to shine enough to have the Italian midfield consist of himself, Verratti and then whoever and whatever compliments them best.

I like him, depends whether we bring in 1 or 2 midfielders. I would like him with Julian Weigl.@MyOnlySolskjaer

Never a mourinho player at DM where he excels. Jose will end up forcing him to play 8 and his confidence will be battered, we'll all absolve jose of any blame and chase jorginho out of the club. Rinse and repeat

We definitely need a playmaker who has a mint passing range like he has and always tries the most difficult forward pass which will help us stretch the opposition defence time and time again and create more space for the likes of pogba to do the damage from the attacking mid. We need faster transition and ability to use the ball better and keep it better as well by being cohesive and I think jorginho adds that.

Can not afford to let him go to another club and fierce rivals like Liverpool and make the same mistake again like we did with sadio mane.

Attacking entertaining football is not possible without a proper base and quality midfield which lacks the proactive control of the ball and midfield and ability to play make from deeper positions like we had it under Fergie and we are missing it since then.

Also, a great player to take the pressure of matic who we are currently overdependent upon, and get caught out when he's tired with so many fixtures.
 
For me, Matic should not be first choice next season. We should upgrade on him. But don't know which player we can buy exactly to replace him in the starting line up.

Matic has been nothing short of fantastic for us this season.

He has been a decent player in the league for us, but he gets caught at the highest level against top, faster, slicker players and struggles to control the midfield around them like he did at Chelsea in title winning season. He does not have the same legs and energy anymore in the midfield required to press for whole game and to win the possession back in vital moments on the highest level and also his passing range is not the same when pressed very aggressively.

We must not be over dependent on any player next season if we are to compete for highest honours. He needs good competition along side him in the squad to also take off some burden off his shoulders.
