Jorginho

He's been so so. Looked sloppy in the final stages of the half to let Sterling pick pocket him so quickly.

That is my reservation with him, I think the game might pass him by in the PL.

Didn't think he looked very good tonight, passing was good, not sure he's a fit for either us or Liverpool personally.

Pogba is going no where. He needs time to mature and provide consistent performances. If we start selling our world class players, that would be stupid. Having Pogba in the team attracts interest from other world class players.

With that being said, Jorginho is good but I'm not sure if he's the one that would fit Mourinho's idealogy. I would like to have Jorginho and Fabinho in the team. They would easily elevate our team with Pogba leading the charge. If Fabinho can make Bakayoko look good, he's make Paul look amazing by taking care of the defensive side of things along with Jorginho. Jorginho and Fabinho could cost us 100m in total and we could use the remaining 100m to get Douglas Costa for the right wing and shore up our defense with the rest. I think LB would be high up on the list. Tuanzebe needs to be given a chance at CB and TFM could be rotated with Valencia.

A ball distribution DM doesn't sound like mourinho to me. Might just be another luxury ala Mata for mourinho. He'll be a Pep delight though.

For me, i'll think beyond Jose and bring him in as a long term replacement for Carrick. Jose will be gone anytime soon.

To be fair Mourinho had a similar player in Xabi Alonzo be a key player for him at Real.

Ed?

First time I've watched a full game of him tonight and I was really impressed. Saw lots of dropping deep to keep the ball ticking over, but no real adventurous passes to get his team into attacking areas.

I agree he's the type of player we need, but one with a bit more adventure to his play if he's going to sit next to Matic and Pogba.

That ball over the toptop insigne was different gear! Thought he was very good considering the poor set up in the first half.

first time I've seen this lad play tbh. Obviously cannot read too much into a friendly, but did not impress me at all in this game. I assume by the levels of interest in him on this thread that he is probably a much better player than he showed yesterday.

Oh yeah I'm not saying he hasn't got the passes in him, just I'd like to see a player that tries then more often. It could just be that I caught him on an off day, as I said it's the first time I've watched him, hopefully so if it is the midfielder we do sign.

Lorenzo Pellegrini actually impressed me in that Italian midfield. Looks to have a bit of class and is very young as well, only 21 I believe.

Was alright. A lot better in the second half. Played some superb balls over the top.

Would definitely need to see more of him to give an accurate assessment, though.

Erm I think you're missing someone else quite obvious...

"There are English teams with this style of play, ball on the ground, quick transitions, high pressure."

Literally the summary of Liverpool. Nevermind the fact we have Keita coming in who's incredibly similar to Allan who he currently plays with. Not saying we'll get him because obviously City is a very attractive proposition but to leave us off that list is absurd.

it's almost like he chose to say the opposite of everything we're good at

Well his comments certainly please me as I'm really hoping he comes to Liverpool after seeing a couple of his through and lob balls yesterday to Insigne and Immobile. I can only imagine the the link up play between him, Mane and Salah, it'd be a sight to see and hopefully one I'll get the pleasure of enjoying next season. But we shall see!

I don't see the 3 of them suiting each other really. Jorginho is the pivot in a 3 man mid. The deep lying playmaker. Not sure how great he'd be in a 2, at least not next to either of Matic (not mobile/attacking enough) or Pogba (not defensive enough). Herrera also too much of a ball winner. Would need like a pure box to box like Vidal or something to play next to Jorginho in a 2. In a 3, having both him and Matic makes it too defensive IMO. Next to Pogba, I'd feel we still needed more of a box to box to balance that. Don't think he's defensive enough on his own to cover for Pogba, so it'd need the 3 mid.

Anyway, don't think he'll leave, I'm sure it'll be fine long term between all them and it's just a little rut we're collectively in. Not that anyone would bid the 150m at least that it'd probably require for us to let go of pogba this soon.
Obviously I'd prefer him to stay, he's a fantastic player if used right but I've seriously started to think mourinho's decided he's not the right player. The situation reminds me of when Rooney was out of the team at the end of the Ferguson era.

 Low blow.

That's the thing though, unfortunately players don't want to play for a side that parks the bus.

Jose must change his ethos or he will start to miss out on key targets.

On a wider note, this club getting a reputation for ugly football will eventually hurt the brand.

“I think the Premier League suits my game, but it also depends on who I have next to me because I need to be surrounded by players with certain characteristics,” he told the Brazilian Press in the mixed zone after Italy’s 1-1 draw with England.

“There are teams in England who play the football I like, keeping the ball on the ground, playing a quick game with one-twos, pressing their opponents high up the pitch…

“if one of these clubs were interested in me, I’d adapt to them well and they could adapt to my way of playing, which isn’t so common.

“It depends on how many opportunities you have. If you have only one option then you don’t have a choice.

“if you have more than one then you can choose the one that’s right for you, your style of play and characteristics.”

Doesn't say shit about us but JORGINHO SLAMS MANCHESTER UNITED AND THEIR MIDDLE-AGES TACTICS.

Yeah, the tweet is highly speculative but the description that he makes doesn't suit United, it reads like Tottenham, Liverpool and City.

Sure, throw money at him though and watch him change his talk.

Why would you throw money at someone that doesn't fit with what you do? We shouldn't care about his talk or try to change it.

I'm pretty much basing it on the speculation, just as the article cited above. If we'll want him and we'll pay him as we are able to, his 'preferences' to gamestyle won't matter much, he'd come here.

He isn't talking about preferences, but describing the way he plays and where he would fit easily. Money won't make him fit, he might sign for us but in theory we won't be a better fit.

Edit: There is a missing quote in that tweet:

"If one of those teams wanted me, I could fit and the other way round. My football way is not an usual one."

He could just turn out to be another Herrera here. If a player really needs to be playing in a 3 man midfield which presses high to be effective I question if they are actually worth £60 million.

It's there actually with a different translation.

“There are teams in England who play the football I like, keeping the ball on the ground, playing a quick game with one-twos, pressing their opponents high up the pitch…

“if one of these clubs were interested in me, I’d adapt to them well and they could adapt to my way of playing, which isn’t so common.

To me this is pretty much talking about his preferences though. You are right that money won't make him fit, that wasn't my point though, merely that it's all talk and, in the end, if we deem him to be the Carrick's successor, as suggested, he'd probably come here irrespective of those preferences.

He describes exactly the opposite of us, think it's fair to say United don't play the style of football he would enjoy.

He describes Liverpool or City.

Yes Jose could try to stop the long balls and play a better passing game, and i'm sure he would fit in fine. But if Liverpool want him too? he would probably choose them.

Always be wary of players who come from Serie A, more specifically, those who are not part of the defence.

With Can seemingly on his way to Juventus, Henderson being Henderson, and Coutinho yet to be replaced, I wouldn't be surprised to see Liverpool make two transfers in the midfield department. Do you think its likely that Liverpool will with additional transfers, will look something like this?

Mane - Firmino - Salah

Lemar - Jorginho - Keita
