Jonny Evans signs a 1 year contract

Probably our best CB last year which is faint praise but he is better than he has any real right to be at this stage in his career. Never feel bad seeing his name on the team sheet.

The strangest thing is that in my opinion he is very close to be our best ball playing CB, he is the one that is most likely to take the right decisions and he is comfortable with both feet. It's a shame that he is far from his best physically.

Terrible decision, looks like we lose out on Delight AND Yoro now.

Joke of a Club #INEOSOUT

Him and Martinez are fantastic on the ball, I think Evans has always been slightly underrated in that respect, which made LvG's decision to not persevere with him all the more bizarre.

Happy with this. It's cover and we will have a lot of dross to get through in the Europa League so the likes of him and Eriksen (if he stays) can help the younger players through that.

Honestly without his contributions last year we would have had a much worse season.

I think it's a fairly low cost solution to a problem that we shouldn't expect to see again this year.

Can't fault the guy, or this decision.

He was very good for us given his fitness and limitations. Glad he's staying around. He can help close out games and play in a couple here and there.

Hope this signals the end for Maguire and Lindelof and the signings of De Ligt and Yoro

Helps with European squad registration, was dependable when called upon and will be good to have around the group.

I don't think this will be linked with Maguire leaving as we still need H/G players.

Glad he's staying on. I'd certainly rather see his name on the teamsheet than Lindelof's.

I don't understand where the registration idea comes from. Without Evans we easily meet the requirements. In fact we can meet them with club trained players only, we have Mainoo, Shaw, Heaton, Rashford, Evans, McTominay, Kambwala, Garnacho, Gore and Shoretire in the first team. Then you can add Wan Bissaka, Mount, Maguire who are association trained. And you only need 8 association trained players including 4 that are club trained.

United is one the clubs that isn't close to struggle when it comes registrations, we don't even list certain players, for example Kambwala, Mainoo and Garnacho weren't listed last year since it wasn't needed.

Absolutely delighted. Need personalities in that dressing room, even if they dont play often. Great guy, too.

Great news!

Now lets give out new contracts to Anderson and Da silva twins as well, because they are great personalities in dressing room.

Its weird how I liked him more last year than I did in the year before he left the first time a decade ago

It's not that weird even though Evans has generally been a good to very good player for United, the 12 to 18 months that preceded his departure were bad, he was shaky in every aspects in ways that were unexplainable.

I'd rather have 8 players registered who need to be and still have the youngster available from the B-List. We have enough injuries to suggest we need as many options as possible.

Meh, he's 36 and we need better but his performance along with Varane at Anfield showed his experience could still be a valuable asset to the team.

Hopefully this means we finally get rid of both Lindelöf & Maguire and he's 4th/5th choice after we sign 2 new CBs. If we end up letting Varane go, keep one of Maguire/Lindelöf and play Evans more than he should again, then we'll still be a joke at the back and can't expect much improvement.

Pretty sure this is sarcasm
And you sir would be 100% correct.

No issue with Johnny Evans coming back. Personally think the club over egg it on the Nostalgia at times but it's a fine line and clearly he's got the club at heart and 'gets it' If hes suitable and it gives him a pathway into some coaching role then no issue from me.

If we sign two new CBs and let go of both Lindelof and Maguire, that would make Evans 4th choice, which is way too high. I expect we'll sign two CBS and look to sell one of Maguire and Lindelof. Maybe both if we somehow end up getting Branthwaite, De Ligt and Yoro, but surely that's unlikely.

I think it's a good decision to renew his contract for another year. The plan has always been for him to be a 4th/5th choice and to guide the young ones and introduce a sense of mentality into the team. Last season's injuries meant he had to play more often that ETH would have wanted but he did well. I feel like with this extension, we will be looking to move both Lindelof and Maguire on if the plan to bring in De Ligt and one more (Yoro/Branthwaite?) goes accordingly. So our centre back options could possibly be - Martinez, De Ligt, Kambwala, Evans, Shaw + plus more new signing.
