Jonny Evans signs a 1 year contract

Every season we sign an experienced veteran who can play with the u23s and provide them with leadership and experience. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is one of those and he does his coaching badges this year. He also has the benefit of actually being able to play for the first team in things like the Carabao cup, and absolute emergencies.

With Maguire staying this does not make much sense, but then, not much we do makes that much sense.

I swear we have some of the worst fans. People in here really care more about "showing up" Maguire than actually becoming a successful top club again.

Jesus Christ.

Site is full of children.

This is a pointless signing. Madrid, City, Bayern etc aren't making signings like this.

When he eventually makes his second debut, it will mean that in every season from 1935-36 onwards we will have fielded someone who has played or would play for either Busby or Fergie.

Its a signing that comes at no cost whatsoever. Its rare that this type of signing presents itself. Its not like he is our new first choice defender. We (hopefully) have a lot of games, he is experienced, he proved himself over the summer. Why not do it?

Jesus Christ, indeed.

No issues at all with this signing. We are already down numbers.

We needed cover. Has Bailly gone now?

He's a great character to have around and with Varane and Shaw injured we're already short so it makes sense. Never had a problem with this one, he might get a game againat Palace in the cup.

Gravesen
Faubert
Altintop

Having to go back a decade or two for examples just proves my point.

City wouldn't loan back David Silva for "cover" or to be a "good influence in the dressing room". This summer they ruthlessly got rid of three 30 year olds (Gundogan, Laporte and Mahrez) and replaced them with exciting 21 year olds.

He had some really good season at Leicester. No worry having him as back-up and he'll make fewer mistakes the Mr Nine-point-turn

But we have neither the money (until the take over) or, we sadly have to admit, the pulling power of City

He is our currently BEST (least worst) CB since Varane is injured and I hope he plays. After spending 120 mil on Maguire, Lindelof and Bailly this club has gone full circle and brought back a CB that would have been happy to be a part of this squad all this time. Just shows how much lack of direction there has been. I predict prehaps 10 clean sheets this season if we are lucky. How we managed to beat Wolves 1 0 is still beyond me

Ten Hag really really really doesn't want to play Maguire does he?

Arsenal 3:1 Man Utd
Yeah, everyone saying this is OK looks a bit silly now or is there another excuse?

Fits right in with the Casemiro and Eriksen signings.

Was Lindelof injured? He must’ve been, right? Why on Earth did he come on otherwise

To be honest I don't think the idea was ever to rely on Jonny Evans in an away game against Arsenal.

Varane, Martinez, Maguire, Lindelof, even a fit Luke Shaw should be ahead of him. A weird set of circumstances to be honest.

While I don't want Lindelöf to get injured, I desperately hope he did - otherwise I'd have to question Ten Hag's sanity.

Maguire is levels above Evans. It’s embarrassing we are signing a retirement player basically and played him against one of our biggest rivals away. Insane.

Knew we were conceding once he came on. This club is pure comedy.

Signing CB from relegated team and partner him with Maguire. Top class club management there, Murtough

Was shit when he left and is still shit when he's back. This club is a fecking shambles
