Thought he was our best player. Defended the little he needed to defend and brought the ball out well. Great assist too.

Type of match he was signed for. Still wouldn't be happy to see him start against a better side.

MotM by a mile tonight. Funny when the grief he was getting pre-game is factored in. Sublime ball-playing and a Koeman-esque assist.

Played very well in what will hopefully be a rare appearance if we can actually keep some defenders fit at any point.

Sort of game he was brought in for.

No fcuking about, just gets on with it.

Good performance.

Well that shut me up. Looks like his rocky pre-season was just teething problems. Looked like he’s been back there the whole time tonight.

Oh what a travesty it is that we brought him in as FIFTH choice CB.

Thought he was great. Really pleased for him.

Jonny feckin Evans. He probably came to coach Maguire aswell, while he's still at it.

Amazing how calm he is.

Exactly what we bought him in to do. Obviously the Arsenal cameo was ropey, but it feels like he was held to different standards due to his age and having previously played for the club. No one else would be expected to come in for their first minutes of the season and be perfect.

feck knows what we’d be doing in defence if we hadn’t signed him.

His distribution is still vastly superior to some of the other defenders we have.

Excellent tonight. Many said it at the time but bonkers decision by LvG to sell him. We missed the best years' of his career - especially galling considering some of the lads who've played CB for us in the interim and not had half his ability

It's almost as though he played alongside someone that noone looks great with the last time and is being judged off off that.

Props to him. He won everything in the air, kept passes flowing and made a wonderful assist. A much better version of Maguire.

Very good today , no surprise as he is has always been a very good player.

But at his age we can't rely on him in the bigger higher paced games but he is very good cover for nights like this.

Fantastic assist by Evans, when he has space to play he's a big asset. However, before and after that point, he didn't help us play out from the back much at all. Hopefully it was just jitters. Cos without Licha we need someone to take more responsibility for breaking that first line press.

We sold him for 3m and bought Rojo for 16m plus Nani. If I live to be 100 I’ll never understand some of the decisions Van Gaal made. Him selling off that 2013 team was more damaging to us than Moyes tenure.

Played really well. Good composure at times and a wonderful pass with his left for the goal.

On the ball he's very good, that's a big strength for him.

Of course he's old and pretty slow but he can read the game. Didn't deserve the pelters he got for the Arsenal game at all.

Still, I would be more comfortable if this is a rare appearence this season.

Good post match interview with him on TNT. Loads of interesting points from his perspective.

Didn't expect he'd be up to that level these days. And I'm one who thought we never should have sold him.

Some pass off his left, he's right footed isn't he?

Sold him for £6m then bought Slab from Leicester for £75m where Evans was the better player.

Van Gaal hadn't a clue regards transfers. Evans should never have been sold and was better for us under Fergie than any CB we signed since.
Was better than Maguire at Leicester also.

Great assist, much better than he had looked since coming back.
