And that Torres miss chance too, he had his back to Torres, which I thought was very bad positioning.
The thing is, Fletcher was covering Torres all the way as he made his run, while Evans was facing the player on the ball. Then, right at the exact moment the ball was passed, Fletcher suddenly stopped running and started pointing (who to I don't know, considering Evans and Jones would've needed eyes in the back of their head to see him pointing), leaving Torres completely open.

I now love Evans, he still likes to blame people but now he is not taking it on our young keeper and I like that. He used to lit into Foster so much. I wonder if it did any damage in hindsight considering Foster's psyche.
Loved his reaction towards Carrick, you don't see that from teammates regularly.

Yes i did mate. i seriously think Chelsea's gameplan was to target Evans and they got the better of him a few times.

Disagree. I thought he was the one marshalling the defence and did it very well. I think they were let down a bit yesterday with our midfield failing to track runners which left our defence far more exposed than we would have liked.

I thought Evans was pretty much faultless. People seem to think that for every chance the opposition creates that a player has to be blame, but yesterday you had to give credit to the runs made from Torres and the incisiveness of the throughpass on a couple of occasions. There was very little from a defensive point of view that they could have done better to stop them.

I hope so too.

Him, Smalling and Jones have been very good together. All the enforced changes definitely contributed to all that sloppiness at the back tonight. So once we're settled again I expect a big improvement.

Yep Rio and Jones doesn't work, dont know if it's the latter not confident in playing left side or what but Evans cant get back soon enough (obviously Vidic back would be nice as well)

People who criticize him should surely be able to see how wrong they are now.

In some cases we're talking about people who wanted a 23 year old centre back shipped out because after a stellar start to his career he had a relatively poor season. I don't think sense and reason are part of their repertoire.

It's weird. It's standard procedure for a young player to have 'that patch' where nothing goes right for them. The funny thing is a lot of people exempt other young players from other clubs for that inevitable drop in form yet show no patience or sense when it comes to one of their own especially for a young player who's clearly very talented and has the makings of a top future CB. Criticize him for his poor showings, sure, but to turn a blind eye to his talent and contribution is just weird.

The return of Rio was supposed to add some leadership and composure to our back four. Turns out he's not been able to compensate for the absence of those same qualities since Evans got injured. Rio needs to sort his shit out or Evans needs to get well soon. Hopefully both.

To say Rio and Jones doesnt work is way too quick to conclude. Rio hasnt looked very good in the last 2 games as he has been out for a few weeks.

No player can just turn it on after having his list of injuries - it takes its toll. I hope Rio can stay fit because if he does he will be first choice.

He better get used to it if it was this (although I don't think it was), as even Rio moves over to the left when he's partnering Smalling. So if, as many people believe, it's going to be a Smalling-Jones partnership for both Man Utd and England for the next decade, Jones has to get used to playing on the left.

Rio always has over the last few years. It's what has allowed him to still be so important for us; every time he's come back from his numerous injuries he just slots straight back in as if he's never been gone.

I'm a little worried about Rio to be honest.

If he stays fit for a prolonged period then he will get back some of his pace that he has lost - but he needs to remain fit for perhaps at least half a season.

If hes going to be playing on and off then he has to re-asses his game. Rio at his imperious best was able to stand off an attacker give them a yard extra space for them to run into and then just accelerate and take the ball off them. Currently he hasnt got that pace and so the likes of Anichebe ran him ragged. What he needs to do is play a bit more physical and Vidic esque and get closer to his man - something Rio hasnt needed to do as he has superior pace and positioning.

If he stays fit and gets his pace back then thats a big plus otherwise he will have to reinvent himself like Giggs did and reinvent himself and play more tighter and physical.

Thought he was terrific today especially when they had to switch him onto Suarez because of Rio's booking, didn't put a foot wrong (Henderson was Fletcher's man at the end). In fact our whole back line was terrific, we defended as a unit today.

Excellent today. Some idiots will still criticize him though.

He was easily better than Smalling and Jones today. He was very impressive.

Heartwarming to see his one error hasn't clouded people's judgement of his performance today.

Absolutely top notch. Second behind Smalling as our best player today.

Very good, had 2 bad moments though that handball incident that could have been a pen and a bad clearance.

has been rather consistent this season. Hoping he would only get better.

Suarez had a clear shot. He had to throw himself in front of him.

Suarez is a player who dummies a lot and has good feet, that he usually uses to go on a dribble. Diving straight in against him is suicide, especially as half the time he goes to ground regardless of whether you touched him or not

Thought he played very well today, he was unlucky when he blocked a shot in the first half and the ball fell straight to suarez though he did react very quickly to force suarez on to his left and De Gea saved the shot brilliantly. Evans had a poor clearence in the second half that went straight to the head of a liverpool player and gave them a chance apart from this I thought he looked very assured.

He did well today. Still got some stick in the matchday thread. Not really surprising anymore

That was outstanding today by Evans, I know most people will look at DDG's saves, and make him MOM, but for me Evans was head and shoulders above the rest today. One bad clearance, that's it, otherwise he was perfect. That was probably the closest we've seen of the Evans of old for a long time. If he can back that up with more then he'll be back in the mix for a regular spot.

When the ball takes a lucky bounce and falls at his feet like that, in space, you don't really think about things like that...it's all instinct. Doesn't mean he couldn't have stood him up for the block, but you can't process that amount of information you're talking about in a split second.

Diving straight in against him is suicide
That's beside the point if diving in is necessary to prevent him from having a clear shot from ten yards or whatever it was. It's possible he could have blocked the opening without diving in, but it didn't look that way to me.

He did well, dealt with everything very well and didnt let himself turn inside out by Suarez and made it a bit hard from him to shoot clean on goal

Great to see him back to his best, a fine performance that didn't let me think of missing Vidic even once.

Let's not forget that it was Vidic and Evans who played the majority of the center back minutes during VDS's record streak of scoreless minutes.

The handball incident? How the hell could you expect him to get out of the way of that one? He was 2 yards away

Dalglish just kills me asking for these things as penalties. It doesn't even have to be mentioned that if such a penalty was given against his team that he would be livid.
