I feel comfortable seeing him as cover at LB, think he does a pretty solid job there. That being said he'd probably be my last choice CB out of all the players we have that can play the position.

I mean, he's started at center back with Smalling and Jones both fit, I'm sure SAF knows more about their relative positions in the squad than you guys
Harsh to criticise Evans for that goal. He got done by an absolutely superb bit of forward play. One of the best goals I've ever seen against United, counting the build-up.
He does seem to me to be quite a bit behind Smalling and Jones now, in terms of confidence and touch. That's no insult though - they're probably the best young defenders in the coutry.

evans' biggest weakness is when he is put under the pressure by the opposition attackers, he can be easily beaten physically and in the air at times.
his passing and built up play are good imo. he is quite comfortable on the ball which not all defenders are.
still he is performing better at this moment than last season at the very least.

He's had a prolonged dip in form, maybe long enough such that people forget how good a defender he can be when he's on form. Yes he's not the best physical specimen out there, but he was able to do very well even in the past without those qualities. When he's confident, he reads the game better and this gives him positional advantage, which makes up for his lack of pace.
Hopefully he gets back to top form soon, and then we'll have three of the best young central defenders in the country.

I'd rather think he is better than average defender who has an amazing run of form in his first season. Time will tell.
It was a freaking great goal. All credit goes to the striker for me.
The one thing he has over Smalling & Evans is experience, I don't think we'll see them start together at CB in a big game for a while.

Seems to thrive on the responsibility of being the senior of the centerback pairing. This start to the season will do wonders for his confidence.

He was outstanding today. By far, our best defender on the day. And I was really impressed by him on the ball. His passing was spot on and he brought the ball out of defence superbly.

I thought Evans should be sold in the summer.

It's not that. People are saying he was amazing and flawless. I'm looking at it objectively.

Great on the ball, suspect positionally. And play to the whistle - when Ramires missed that sitter, Evans held his hand up for offside and almost stopped running.
Played a stormer. Starting to look really confident carrying the ball out of defence too. Torres was looking back to his best but got very little change out of him. I thought Evans could only defend against 5 foot tall weaklings?
His passing has come on leaps and bounds. Evans looks undroppable at the moment.
Some of his long range passing was brilliant. His tackle on Torres when Hernandez gave the ball away early in the first half was also very good.

Totally agree and that really stood out for me. Could be in for a cracking season at this rate.
