Suarez is a player who dummies a lot and has good feet, that he usually uses to go on a dribble. Diving straight in against him is suicide, especially as half the time he goes to ground regardless of whether you touched him or not

Thats ridiculous. If the ball bounces loose to a player 10 yards out with the goal at his mercy you cant fault the defender for diving in to try and block a shot.

Dalglish just kills me asking for these things as penalties. It doesn't even have to be mentioned that if such a penalty was given against his team that he would be livid.

There was an identical one in the second half, when Nani flicked the ball onto a Liverpool players hand in the box. The reporter mentioned the Evans one and conveniently didnt mention the other one in the Dalglish interview. Neither were penalties.

Great performance from Johnny. Glad to see him reaching his heights of yesteryear again. At least he now gives us the option of moving Smalling/Jones to RB if anything happens to Vidic / Rio in the centre.

I thought Rio was equally brilliant yesterday though. Not his fault the ref gave a few brain fart fouls against him. I had DDG as MotM, Rio & Evra/Evans. Other than a couple of panicky moments in the last 10 mins, the entire defence performed admirably.

He was good today except for when Suarez had him one on one. Went to ground straight away

I disagree - if he had really been dummied there, Suarez would be clear on goal. Evans did enough to make it just that extra bit more difficult - and that saved the goal.

The one at the end was bad though...when he almost sent Suarez through on goal

How do you know it is a shot? It wasnt. And we know that Suarez likes to have a dribble before shooting so its a high chance that if you dive in on him you'll be buying his dummy, leaving him a clear shot or taking him down for a penalty. He's the kind of player where you have to stay on your feet if you're going to contain him

There isnt much in it, Evans didnt fully commit to diving in for that particular incident but it was enough to put himself off balance and take him out of the game for blocking the actual shot on goal afterwards. All I'm saying is if he doesnt go to ground at all but still tries to block the shot, he can still dissuade a player like Suarez from taking on the shot first time like that because its Suarez's game to go on a dribble before firing at goal. He'll take very little convincing to dummy and try the other side because thats what his first instinct is to do when faced with a defender. It usually works out quite well for him.

On the point that he cant really think about it in a short space of time, this is something to prepare for before the match when you know you'll be playing against Suarez. Not in a split second.

Its the same as not getting too tight to him when the ball is fed into his feet with his back to goal. If you pressure him as much as you would pressure a normal striker you play against every week he'll throw himself to the floor and very often he gets a freekick for it in the most dangerous of areas. You know that going into a match so its not a split second decision to make whether to get tight or not. It should be your mindset as you step onto the pitch

Sounds like you have never played football before, and if you have, you certainly aren't a defender.

If the ball bounces loose to a striker inside the box 10 yards out and you're out of position, you do everything in your powers to block the first time shot (which is what happens 9 times out of 10). If anything this decision forced Suarez to turn onto his weaker foot and probably saved a certain goal.

Phil Thompson is slating him on the Norwegian Premier League channel. Apparently he's been "poor" and has cost us a lot of goals this season.

He's there in the studio almost every other weekend, does he not watch the matches?

lol, I reacted to that as well... I think Evans has looked pretty good for us this season, recapturing the form that made us sit up and take notice of his potential.

What on earth was he doing at the sending off? Seemed to be ahead of Balotelli, but then let him go in front so he could pull him down. Mysterious.

Or did I see it wrong?

Seemed to try and block Balotelli off and get his body in front of him, but Balotelli muscled him off and got in behind.

Poor play and will probably prove very costly.

He's a real talent but also a massive liability at times....we can't really afford anymore of his spazzetry. Jones/Smalling at CB at the absence of Rio/Vida. Evans can make a more than decent cover at LB.

Go feck YOURSELF! Lazy defending for the first goal, lazy positioning to get sent off.

fecking idiot. He's been better this season but he still has moments where he is a liability.

Make him a bit part player. I'd rather Smalling there, he was rather good there last fecking season.

Smalling/Jones are better players - Evans is decent but gas that mikael silvestre trait of doing something really stupid once a match

He'd done well up until today and then he completely mailed it in. I'd like to see his ass firmly attached to the bench until January or so. In a huge game you go and make those huge mistakes.

Jones and Smalling are both better CBs than he is, and better fullbacks. They shouldn't be shifted out wide so he gets to start.

feck off playing Smalling at rightback. Put him back in central defence.

Anyone hating Evans can feck off, don't need this right now.

I don't understand how SAF can possibly think that Rio/Evans is the best possible centre half combination???
As well, Fletcher/Anderson in central midfield???

Why? What was 1-0(because of poor defending by him) turned into 6 fecking 1 because he got sent off. Why would he not deserve the bollocking he's getting and will get for the rest of the season?

If it were a keeper who made those mistakes, he'd find himself on the transfer list.

He has some good games most of the time, and even some very good ones among them. But there always seems to be a risk of him doing some utterly clueless like today.
