He hasn't been great all season. He's only most consistent centreback because our other 2 CBs have missed so many games through injury, leaving just him and Phil Jones. And I think Jones is better.

How hasn't he been great all season? Sure he doesn't do those runs into midfield that Jones does...

So I'm the only one that thinks Evans has been great this season? The boy made a bad mistake, that is all.

And you don't think that there's a chance he can eradicate this errors from his game, this is just a fatal flaw? Have no error-prone young players ever developed into top class centre backs?

He has been great all season. Our most consistent central defender. Actually played well for 46 minutes today and all. Horrible mistake but shit happens.

This, that and the other one.

Jones has been better. He's made better tackles, won some headers(Evans can't win headers at all, unless he climbs on someone or pushes them away), given away fewer stupid fouls that Evans always commits outside the box, and he hasn't been sent off. Evans has been good, but he's not bee the best central defender.

He gave the ball away for their goal and then gave Balotelli too much sapce when he put it away. Then the sending off cost us the game. Other than that he was excellent...

Please be fair, Vidić would have done the same as Evans. Both are prone to doing rash, stupid, and inexplicable things.

No he hasn't. His best performances have all been at full-back. He's had one or two real stinkers in the centre.

Jones has been poor defensively. His positioning especially has been extremely suspect. He's an exciting player but he has made a lot of basic defensive mistakes this season.

ironically, i thought he had played well up til the goal. His passing had been good and his interceptions/reading of the game top notch

I felt he was partially responsible for the goal, but also felt that there was a real lack of midfield tracking back

his decision to pull the man back was silly but an instinctive thing. Other defenders have done the same (e.g Vidic). Ultimately its cost United but i didn't expect them to capitulate to 6-1!

Agree with what you are saying, it didn't help on the first goal that he slipped as did quite a few other players in that first half. All the goals in the second half were due to numerical advantage rather than them tearing us apart. I don't think any other defender in the world would have done anything other than do what he did, or bring the player down.

He was for me our MOM last week at Anfield, and I had confidence in him today, if he'd have score with the chance in the first half who knows what would have happened.

I've seen him a few times this season and he has regressed massively. Injuries have definitely held him back but his lack of pace is much more worrying.

I don't think you can blame him for their first goal, a central midfielder should've picked Balotelli up at the edge of the box and someone should definitely have been chasing Silva and not let him turn around like that in the middle of the park. That, for me, was the biggest mistake for the first goal.

IMO Evans should be our 5th choice CB and not play unless 3 of the other 4 are unavailable - he is a good squad player to have but should not have started today.

The red was one of the most brain dead acts i've seen on a pitch in recent memory. he must have had 10 options which would have not resulted in a foul or a goal but he decided to slow down, let balotelli get ahead of him and then hold him back. it was very very weird.

every other player stopped. I thought an offside had been called or something. When i saw he'd given a foul i was shocked

Phil Jones has had one poor game (Basel)

Stoke.

Evans had a mare today especially the sending off. He was in a good form tho before the game. I can understand Ferguson for listing him in the team sheet. Evans lacks pace and at times confidence. Other than that he's a solid defender...

I'm sick of him getting fecking bullied... Was his down fall last season and Batolli's strength, which isn't his best attribute caused Evans to go in a frenzy. Just keep him away from good forwards full stop.

Some genius on twitter was trying to defend him massively by giving up these minutes per goal stats for when each defender has been on the pitch.....which for obvious reasons would hugely favour Evans...since he was sent off for 5 goals leaving 3 of the other people in those stats with 5 extra goals to their names partially being his fault.

 saw that

Incredibly harsh. He was actually doing alright until he had one of those moments that you see on occasion from Vidic where he gets caught for pace and has a bit of a brain fart.

Evans is a very good defender, he had a bad day today but no one covered themselves in glory today did they? Pique is an excellent defender too but a lot of defenders could look good in a team that keeps 70% of the possession, I remember him getting out paced by Mackail-Smith when Spain played against Scotland, just think about that now.
