John Stones | Everton say they will reject all bids

Remember what José said when we got Shaw?

He said paying the wages Shaw wanted would cause issues in the dressing room.

"If we pay to a 19-year-old boy what we were being asked for, to sign Luke Shaw, we are dead," said Mourinho.

"We would have killed our stability with financial fair play and killed the stability in our dressing room, because when you pay that much to a 19-year-old kid - a good player, fantastic player - but when you pay that amount of money, the next day, we would have had players knocking on our door.

"They would have been saying, 'How is it possible I play 200 games for this club, won this and that, yet a 19-year-old comes here and gets more money than I get?"'

Fair do's, thought he was talking about the transfer fee at the time.

Wait, what is Shaw being paid then

Some say 80k, some say 50k.....Stones probably would accept in the middle, but they would of paid like £10m for him. So what's the difference.

Other sources say it was between £100,000 and £130,000 a week for Shaw.

Shaw himself denied that..it was around the time people were saying that he was on more than Lahm..i read somewhere that Darmian was on 100k, when in truth, he is on less than 50k( Confirmed by Di Marzio)..The English press arent good with numbers at all.
Rubbish. He replied to a tweet claiming he earned as much Lahm and denied that he did. Lahm is reportedly on £150k per week. So no Shaw did not deny that he's on a 100k.

I'm beginning to think Stones really is good enough to warrant a Jones + cash offer. You'd have to think Everton would prefer that than just a lump sum of cash.

He'd be the perfect partner for Smalling.

I agree he seems like one of those one in a generation British players that need to be at United. Defensive equivalent of a Bale.

Was thinking the exact same thing.

Feel bad for Jones, but Stones is clearly several levels higher. We'd have 3/4 of the English backline for the next 6-7 years as well.

Wasn't sure on him at the end of last season, he's been very, very good any time I've seen him play this season. Will cost an absolute fortune, and will be worth it.

Why would they prefer that over £40m?

Because if they got £30m plus Jones they would have a defender they could work with plus a lot of money while in the other scenario they would still be left searching for defender or defenders.

Bossing it today, cool as you like. Thank god Chelsea didn't get him.

Cheeky bid?

Current form the best back four in the league for me is:

Darmian-Smalling-Stones-Shaw

Add the best keeper in the world to that back line again its the 08 CL winning backline!

Why would they prefer that over 40m?

They were going to sell him for £40m and replace him with Evans for £6m. It seems fairly obvious that Jones + however much they want would give them the British defender they're looking for, and one who is quite capable of growing into their captain, while meeting their valuation of Stones overall.

Have to say I think we should do what we can for a double swoop for him and Barkley next summer. Might cost around 80m though am sure we could send rojo and maybe Jones the other way but I think it could well be worth it.

The thing with Barkley is, his decision making is still not great.. and I think someone like Shelvey might be a better more versatile player.

I wouldnt expect his decision making to be that good yet but he's just such. Big threat being able to power through the middle. The talent is there to make it worth it although we can see how he develops over this season as well.

As for shelvey I personally wouldn't want to sign him at all. He has got some talent but I don't think he's got the same talent as Barkley. I think he'll be a good Europa league level player

Clearly already very good now but could be a monster in a couple of years.

I pointed out his brilliant performance after his last game and you pulled me up an implied I am riding the wave of opinion on one performance, as he made a mistake in the game.

Fast forward one game....

I think you read what you want to read. I didn't say or imply anything about your judgement of him as a player overall. I just thought your description of his performance was a massive exaggeration given he'd made one critical error in the game that just didn't happen to be punished, so it wasn't even noticed.

He wouldn't be afforded that kind of luxury at a top club. His mistakes would be scrutinised to a much greater extent (just as Rio's were when he moved). He makes mistakes quite frequently that never get mentioned because he's the English golden boy and because he's at Everton.

Well he made one in the second half today where he ran and held on to it for too long and got dispossessed. Critical error that didn't happen to be punished, as you put it.

How many years will he have left on his contract next year? If it is only 2, then next year is the last year that Everton can get a huge fee for him.

Ok...

Maybe we should leave this thread for people who want to actually discuss the player in question rather than derailing it with weird internet forum arguments.

He was excellent today. Really impressive performance. Surely LVG would love him as a ball playing centre back.

Esp considering there might be a sell on fee they owe to Barnsley.
