I agree with your assessment, but I would be very concerned if United doesn't have at least one proper DM in the squad. As you say, Casemiro's legs are shot although if it made any sense to keep him as a squad player (but one on very high wages) then we could keep Casemiro on for mop up duty after our all action midfielders secure victory by the 75th minute...although I have my doubts that his ideas on transition football will ever work with the squad that he has now, even with a few reinforcements over the summer.

I wouldn't be surprised if we sign Amrabat permanently as that DM option. His loan deal is coming to an end and there seems to be no inkling that he is going back. He could be announced on July 1st as our first summer signing.

Couple of tweets posted yesterday said he was going back to fiorentina.

I think Ugarte / Casemiro is our DM plan. If Casemiro leaves we might go for another DM.

I missed those. Hopefully, it true.

I hope Casemiro leaves to. It clear that he is not suited to the style of play that ETH wants to play here. He doesn't have the legs for that.

An all action midfielder and another midfielder who is on the more creative side is what is would like this window.

So who are these two midfielders then?

Excellent. He’s a solid squad man and fulfill the role that needs to be fulfilled. Plenty of doubters here of Amrabat’s ability, however.

I don't think that's bias at all and a fair assessment. I was always a Moutinho fan and even at when he was Wolves. Like I said, £100m is too much for Neves, but £60-70m isn't too bad for a player I would expect to improve and be around the first team for at least a decade.

What do you think you'd have valued Moutinho at that age?
Moutinho would have left by less than 10M at the same age, after a couple of years 15M.
He was sold to Porto in 2010 after 5 years at Sporting by 11M.

We need to pair a Onana or a Ugarte with a deep lying playmaker - a midfielder of the Adam Wharon or Zubemendi ilk.

I think one of the biggest mistake of the last few years has been missing out on Caceido before he went to Brighton. He would have been perfect paired with Mainoo.

Does the Caicedo complicated ownership thing need explaining all over again, Brighton had advantage because done that kind of deal before

Him not getting any game time is a positive for us if we're serious about getting him.

I don't think it matters. There's the release clause and Benfica have been very strong in getting top money for their emerging stars. If those rumours are true then both United and PSG have had offers rejected.

his price won't have gone up this tournament so i say go for him and Ugarte now along with a CB, Fwd and winger

That’s in excess of £200m. Did the Qataris take us over by any chance? Or is this FM?

I think we’ll spend at least €200m this summer. New owner (which I think gives us some extra financial leniency), potentially a number of sellable assets, and at least 5 clear squad gaps that need filling.

Every summer there’s the same ‘we only have £50m budget’ reported, yet every summer we go and spend £150-250m. Our issue has been how we’ve spent that money, which hopefully with Ashworth and Wilcox in the door we can use that money wisely.

no but if you sell Greenwood, Sancho and McT....that isn't an issue b/c 2 of those guys are considered homegrown which makes spending 200m quite easy under the FFP rules

Yeah pleading poverty has worked out so far. Let's keep up that impression, negotiate hard but still spend.

We opened up so much wage cap with just Martial and Varane leaving. Even more so if Casemiro and Sancho leave too. I think that's about 1.5-2M per week (!!)

There's definitely money for this deal if we really push.

Would need some decent fees

This is the ultimate muppet signing, which is why I dont think this one's happening. The links have died down too.

Alongside Ugarte, Joao would be the perfect supplementary signing stylistically, as he could fulfil either the Mainoo 8 or Ugarte 6 roles with ease. We could then rotate the 3 across the two roles with Mount adding extra support in the 8 role and of course backing up Bruno, with McT as the wildcard super sub.

Rumours have died down but maybe just maybe we’re looking to get the rest of our business completed first to see if we have the budget left to negotiate with Benfica for Joao later in the window after more sales. Greenwood for £30m of pure PSR profit is a decent start…

Watching Spain earlier with press proof passers in the middle of the park got me pretty jealous. I haven’t really watched enough of Neves, could he be our Portuguese version?

He’s my current dream signing. I am as excited about Yoro though if it comes off. Another step in the right direction. We kept missing out on major opportunities to improve the team for years to come and the new guys seem finally to be targeting the very best available players on the market. Who knows? I doubt we can afford Neves but I think we’d definitely want him.
