It's quite funny when people compare him to Renato. No amount of staying back in the portuguese league would improve Renato's bebe like first touch which looked quite glaring despite his battering ram physique which he often used to dominate opponent but look at Felix in comparison, he's got better first touch, intelligence and fantastic vision which were everything Renato lacked. Renato was given a chance at Swansea, a chance at a small club that's if Bayern was too big as a step up for him and with his physique, he should have get back to being a decent player like Tielesman did but what did we have? A rubbish technical inept player. That isn't going to improve.

To be honest, I don't see the need for him to continue in the portuguese league. What else is there to achieve? He's won the league there and looked head and shoulders above majority of the players. He needs a new challenge. If a top league club give him a chance to have a good team to be built around him, he would be stupid not to snap it up because I don't see why he should stay back. Highly rated young players in the portuguese league tend to move out so early so as to develop their game better. This was a player who was head and shoulders ahead everyone on the pitch, including his team mates against Frankfurt. In fact, he needs a better team.

There's nothing raw about him despite his frail stature. If it's about him chasing several long aeriel ball punt to him as a right forward against Switzerland, then maybe he's raw because his frail strength/physique isn't cut for such sunday league long ball style right now although it could be in the future after he's amassed more body mass.

That said, I don't think he should go for the touted 100mil. 60mil is actually right for him.
60M is a very fair amount for what he has shown. Also Rafa had a better season then him (granted he played more games) nor was he the best player in the league so actually staying 1 more season to develop his skills in a team he Will be an absolute starter in and will have CL action is the best bet. At least have 1 full season under your belt.

Huge risk on Atleti's part IMO to spend a outrageous sum of money on him if true..

If true I hope he does well because Portugal need someone to step up once Ronaldo is gone. He went to the best league based on his style of play maybe in the future once he has proven more he can go to play in England.

This will inflate the market further now regards players like Sancho and Havertz. I just hope we try and sign Federico Chiesa before he's snapped up on a bargain price by Juventus.

Just as an example this kid is worth more then Eden Fecking Hazard who is in his prime :lol: Jesus Christ the state of football.

There are people here speaking with certainty about him as a player when I'm 100% sure they haven't watched João Félix play more than 2 or 3 games of football in their whole lives. It's actually pretty insane just how ignorant people can be while pretending to be fully certain of what they're talking about.

One of the best prospects in the world? He has nothing to accomplish in Portugal??? :wenger: How about being one of the best 10 players in the league and playing more than half a season's worth of games? 120 million for someone who was outperformed by Pizzi, Rafa Silva and Seferovic ffs...

I really hope this happens so I can laugh when he's miles away from being good enough to start for Atletico.

Mbappe though a high fee is completely understandable. You are talking about a generational talent who at 17 was banging in 20 something goals a season in the league and CL and who scored in a World Cup final and at scored almost 40 goals this season.

Mbappe was 18 when he had his break through season. He scored 15 goals and 11 assists in 29 league 1 games. He scored 6 goals in 9 cl games. All the things you mention was after he was bought by PSG for 180 million euros.

Joao Felix has 15 goals and 9 assists in 26 games. He is not even a forward like Mbappe. He has 3 goals in 6 europa league matches.

Pretty similar stats.

How the hell are Atletico a bigger draw than United now? Jesus

Finished 2nd in their league for the past 2 seasons and europa league winners in 2018? Its sunny? A manager that has won things? Won the league a year after we last won it so more recent league winners too? champions league runners up a few times too in that same period.

We have money to offer. We too won the europa league in 2017 and we finished 2nd in the league 2 seasons ago. Other than that why would a young foreign player choose United right now over Atletico?

Outperformed by Seferovic, Pizzi, Rafa who all improved with Felix introduction into the team and linking up the attack? What a coincidence!
I watched him against Frankfurt and I would say he was the only player out of his team that looked like a talent. Others were just bang average! Sorry, if it annoys you. Not to mention his team mates wasting many chances in the game. Seferovic was touted to have missed more than 15 chances for Benfica in the league this season. No wonder they were 4th until Felix came to the rescue.

The 20 goal season was when he was 18 I meant all competitions sorry if I didn’t mention that.

Also 6 goals in 9CL games against some of the favorites in that competition is much better then 3 goals against Frankfurt in 1 game.

Mbappe is a generational talent. Felix is not.

Rafa didn't improve, he was great all season, stayed at the same level. They improved because Lage came on for Vitoria, not because of fecking Joao Felix ffs. You have no idea what you're talking about. If Felix played under Rui Vitoria he'd have looked half the player.

I watched him against Frankfurt and I would say he was the only player out of his team that looked like a talent. Others were just bang average!

How about watching more than one game? I watched pretty much every Benfica game, I actually know what I'm talking about.

No wonder they were 4th until Felix came to the rescue.

Had more to do with the coaching change as Rui Vitoria has no business being a Coach. Having Felix did help though because he is a good player.

Rafa was great before Felix came in.

Obiously Mbappe is a generational talent. And much more talented the Felix. You know that now, but at the time not many new he was as good as he is now.

Similarly let's see how good Felix is. Mbappe is very explosive were Felix looks more like a Kaka type of player.

 completely clueless regarding portuguese football. Not knowing the Rui Bombo Vitória effect. He saw one game against Frankfurt. Bruno César has scored against Real Madrid and Juventus, we clearly sold him cheap.

Gelson tore Real Madrid apart in the CL should probably have been sold for 80M:lol::nervous:

 they keep bringing up the Frankfurt game when Felix dived and a 10 man Frankfurt were all over the place.

My feeling is that this guy will be something very special. One of the players of his generation. An absolute superstar.

But if we signed him this summer United's currently very impatient support would rip him to pieces. Because physically it's going to take him a couple of years to be ready for a league like this. Knowing the state of the clubs support right now and the English medias obsession with United signing him would probably end up costing Ole his job.

Still can’t believe Portuguese fans who watch the player weekly are being argued with so vehemently by those who saw highlights and one game vs Frankfurt alone as to how good he is.

He might be great prospect but certainly not worth the risk for the price for any Epl team. He is too weak physically to have a great impact at any club in the league.

That's an absurd fee. Around a 100 million pounds for someone so unproven. Even somebody like Sancho has been one of the best players in the Bundesliga. Felix is even moreso about talent and future potential. Atletico better have gotten this right. Didn't even know they had this sort of spending power.

That is bold to say the least from Atleti. Replacing Griezmann with this kid is somewhat sly though as I reckon fans will be patient with him and the team.

The money in football is bonkers.

The transfer fee is completely nuts but Atletico will get some of the money back through other means, this is very much a shady deal if it happens. Only way for the Benfica president to sell Felix without getting criticized by the fans is for someone to pay his realease clause, so Mendes does his thing and a 50 million transfer turns into a 120 million transfer that will get compensated in the near future through corrupt deals.

Keep an eye on other Jorge Mendes transfers this summer, money will keep going around between his clubs.

One of the biggest gambles I've ever seen. He's had a very good half a season but to pay the whole 120m euros. Christ.

Completey reinvesting the Griezmann money in this dude? Obvious downgrade. Have a feeling this will be a poor move for atletico.

Well he's a downgrade for now. Excellent finisher though, might hit the ground running, you never know.

This is one of those Carrol style transfers where the fee is greatly inflated because of a previous player sale.

@Adnan that guy from the Twitter account is basically the biggest joke here in sports journalism. He's known for being one of the tentacles of Benfica propaganda machine.

No club can pay 120M in a buyout clause scenario because it would imply figures close to 240M with taxes and mechanisms. What happened is again some shady deal like in the past in which not even 50% of that amount will go to the club.

Notice how Benfica claimed yesterday that they were not having any sort of negotiation for Felix. Why would they do that when the player was seen in Madrid with Mendes? Simple, it's just for the President to save face and avoid going against his word of not selling Félix.

In reality, Benfica's president is desperate for money. His bet on youth development is just another facade for making dirty euros. After all, to mantain this system where they pay second, third and forth parties which, in turn, pay refs, other teams, judges, politicians, etc, gets easily very expensive. That's Benfica's machine and how they operate.

They already bought 3 mature players from small teams that Will never feature for Benfica but it's just a way of paying favor and just in there that's 18 points guaranteed. A random Brazilian player suddenly leaves their best striker isolated or passes directly to him. It happened too often.

I know this reeks of rival bitterness but sadly it's our reality. Don't even get me started on their President's past. The guy was literally caught smuggling drugs but alas, enough of morning ramblings must get to work.

Thanks for the info mate, I appreciate it.

This deal sure looks extremely shady.

Well yeah... that's why it's weird to spend all the money you get from arguably your best player on this. It's not going to placate someone like Oblak or Rodri. Judging by how little contact the Spanish u21s are used to the other night, he might be fine in la liga.

Glad we didn’t get sucked in by the hype. What an insane fee for an unproven kid.

atletico is a good next step for the guy.

Why do they need placating though? Not every squad is full of knobheads like ours. I assume this won't be their only signing as well.

It's been reported it's a large reason these two may want to leave. I'm sure it won't be there only signing, but it will be the majority of their budget.
I think he will shine in few years just like griezmann.
Personally don't see him as a 20+ goals a season man.
