I don't understand, is he a winger or is he a CM? In one of the videos @Sly sent he seemed to be on the wing but he is described as a CM.

Too you, maybe it was. The majority of your players haven't been good enough to win a trophy this century. This current crop has far more promise, which I've already alluded to. Not all of those players play out wide like he can though. Gomes and Silva aren't showing the same form this season either, and Tiago is over the hill.

It's not for me, it's common sense with portuguese football followers. Our midfield/winger talent pool has always been deep. That's what i was correcting you, with your bs claim that it's easy to get a midfield spot in our national team. If our national team hasn't won any trophy this century, it isn't because of our midfields during the years/generations. It's because since Eusébio, we haven't had any decent striker option to give us the extra something to turn very good results (One euro final, 4 euro semi finals, 1 World cup semi final) into a trophy. It was our obvious flaw along with having Scolari as coach. João Mário plays more time wide at Sporting than in our national team. Every player i mentioned are direct opponents for him since he can play MC, AMC and even DMC if it's needed since he played there at Setúbal and youth rank national teams. And again you don't know what you're talking about regarding Tiago. It was Fernando Santos who recalled him to our national team and he has already said that if Tiago recovers in time, he will go to the Euros. Gomes and Silva even with a blip of form are Fernando Santos choices and will 90% sure be in France (specially Silva).

Benfica still on top?

Yeah mate 2 points ahead. Will have a hard game next week away at Madeira against Marítimo though. Have high hopes they will drop points there. Their historial in the last years in Madeira isn't that great.

The fact that you are a Sporting fan indicates that your post was a dig at an 18 year old kid because he is the limelight and you think your player should be receiving all the attention instead. Again, I never disputed your player's performances this season. But it's obvious why people are excited about an 18 year old powerhouse with the obvious potential that he has. I don't get why you would care. Carvalho used to be hyped a lot awhile back too.

Forgot this part. That's a load of rubbish. He isn't the limelight of our league. Jonas and João Mário are. He is the limelight of english newspapers and i don't care about that because i want our best players at the club and not sold. And i have praised Sanches plenty of times (if you read any of my posts in his thread), i just don't think he deserves the ammount of hype (been a passanger in big games bar the Bayern game) he gets or the pricetag. Already said multiple times that Sanches is a very good player with alot of potencial. I´m just cautious because he has half of season of portuguese football and there are no guarantees regarding the evolution of any player as seen by my Guedes mention.

Lots of your talented attackers failed or struggled when they left Portugal though. Quaresma, Varela, Coentrão, Postiga, etc. Tiago is almost 35 and will struggle to get back into the Atlético side now that guys like Saúl, Partey and Augusto are staking their claim.

Because your BS made me laugh, you spout nonsense and then try to pretend that Sly is being dishonest.

He doesn't know what he is talking about regarding portuguese football. He's more a Spurs expert. I dunno what's hard to understand that although Sanches has alot of potencial, his pricetag and hype is ridiculous. Even Benfica forums mention that with claims that if the values are true, it's just ripping off english clubs again.

Coentrão isn't an attacker and he has always been one of the top performers in our national team. That's what matters to me. And saying Varela and Postiga were talented attackers, you gotta laugh at that rubbish claim. You clearly don't know what you're talking about.
And who's talking about Atlético? By the way do you know he only lost his spot because he got injured? He was a sure starter at Atlético before his injury. Like he was in our national team since he is one of Fernando Santos lieutnants. He was a starter during our qualifying campaign.

Where did I mention dishonest? Evra makes me laugh.

Eh, in the limelight i.e. in the headlines, drawing attention, in the papers, mainstream, linked with a high profile move. I never said he was the best player in Portugal. He's 18 years old, I wouldn't expect him to be bossing games on his own. The fact that he did well against Bayern is a good sign for his future. As for Guedes, young attackers are inconsistent. It's nothing new. How he reacts to adversity will be key.

Prior to his injury, Tiago was better than Gabi and Saul benched Gabi but never came close to Tiago.

Your first sentence, when you pretend that Sly's opinion is driven by the fact that he is a Sporting fan.

Eh mate don't mention facts, it destroys his narrative

Coentrão is very attack minded, you know this. He's a winger who poses as a defender. Varela has always been a solid player for Porto. Especially under AVB. I didn't say I knew anything. I said I doubt that he will reclaim his spot at Atlético next season with the emergence of the two youngsters I mentioned and the form of Augusto. He's 35. Nothing lasts forever.

Again, where did I mention dishonest? Your perception and fact are two very different things.

Coentrão is a very attack minded player but he has always played as LW in our national team because he has Ronaldo in front of him. Dude cmon Varela was solid one year, rest of his career he has been a passenger. That's why most of Porto high profile players went to big clubs and he went to West Brom. His national team career is insignificant, he barely played for Portugal and it was mostly sub stints. Him and Postiga are terrible examples.

Are you suggesting that your first sentence was useless because it was your perception that led to it?

Prior to his injury, Tiago was better than Gabi and Saul benched Gabi but never came close to Tiago.

And now he's injured and approaching 35. Welcome to May 2016. Saúl has just scored a wonder goal, Augusto has been dominating in big matches and the youngsters are coming along nicely. I think it's okay to suggest that his future is in doubt.

Postiga was a fairly high profile signing at the time of his first move. He has never really settled outside of Portugal, bar that spell at Zaragoza. The money at West Brom would have been a factor. There's a lot of money at the lesser clubs too.

Are you suggesting that your first sentence was useless because it was your perception that led to it?

I'm not suggesting anything. You can perceive it whatever way you like.

I know this is not the Sanches thread but it's refreshing to an opinion from someone that sees things the way they are.

I hope he doesn't take Eder to the euros, even my dead grandfather would be better

Actually, what you said was:

The fact that you are a Sporting fan indicates that your post was a dig at an 18 year old kid because he is the limelight and you think your player should be receiving all the attention instead.

Which is of course a misrepresentation of the facts given Joao Mario is receiving more attention than Sanches. Now, kindly keep your boring bollocks out of this thread so people can talk about the subject at hand - Joao Mario.

It could make sense. A technical hard working right handed winger/hybrid CM. Would fit a potential Mourinho side, but how quick is he? I'd still be a bit worried if Martial was the only real pace outlet in the side who can successfully take players on.

From the write up it seems like he's a Payet type of player: quick, technical and able to impact the game from a multitude of positions. If true, sign him up!

You're a few days late and I don't care what you have to say.

Kind regards,
WhoDaGoat

Versatile, creative and hard working, I col definitely see him appealing to Jose. We have a good relationship with Sporting so hopefully that will make for a smooth transfer if we move for him.

That's actually a good comparison mate. But João Mário has to work on his finishing and set pieces though. He's bellow Payet in that aspect. Also agree with @Devil may care
