I love these posters that come in and state as cooly as you like ‘well players just sometimes get better etc, doesn’t mean we were wrong about lambasting them.’

If you are so aware of how players mature and suddenly turn better all of a sudden then why call them ‘championship level, not good enough, never will be, not a top 4 number 10, shite” with so much conviction 10 weeks ago?

You can’t have it both ways!

Acknowledge that you were wrong with some grace, continuing to act superior in your unequivocal footballing knowledge is an absolute spoof.
The matchday threads are genuinely embarrassing. During a bad performance, half our players are 'disowned' by some supposed 'fans'.

I would not take the matchday thread as evidence of bad posters, in the heat of the moment, a lot of people can go overboard or post some stupid stuff.

The player performance threads on the other hand, are where you can determine this, as even after the match is finished people can post some absolute nonsense. So many posts with agenda driven nonsense.

Lingard is doing great, and not just because he is scoring screamers. All aspects of his game have improved, not just his goal scoring. But it is just another example of some posters being quick to write off players and our squad as shit, in the hope of getting the hipster transfers in their imaginary dream teams, and when we don't get them, it is because the owners are cheap bastards. If we do get them and they don't work or have a rough patch, they become shit as well and then its on to the new shiny muppet toy again. A repetitive cycle, which is not good for stability. Thankfully, Jose seems to be on the right track with transfers and not having too many turn over of players in one go.

It's just 2 games this season and he has already scored 2 contenders for goal of the month.

Just a few I found...shall I keep going?

I don’t know why I’ve been dragged into this argument! Yeah I’ve been critical of Lingard in the past with good reason, the lad is 25/26(?) not a young player and to play for a club like Utd regularly he needs to play like he has done this last two months 8 games out of 10

I hope he continues to come good I really do but I would be careful about gloating because things can change quickly!

Nothing pleases me more than seeing a local lad become a top player and important first team member. It's the most satisfying thing. Really happy for him. He's worked hard for this and deserves more appreciation, although I suspect that the next bad game he has (which will happen and bleeding all players have) the comments of dislike will roll in with the force of an Atlantic wave on a Portuguese beach!

Wasn’t meant to be taken too serious mate. Far from gloating at this point I assure you.

I'm fairy sure I've said on here that Lingard isn't good enough for is. I've been proven wrong, bigly. Well done to him, I've always liked him despite reservations about how good he could be.

Excellent post, thank you.

Lingard’s form really is sweet redemption for those of us who have been sticking up for him for years now.

I still get the feeling that those who still aren’t convinced by him, would rather see his form drop just so they can continue to say he’s not good enough, rather than be humble enough to admit they were wrong.

If a player who is starting for Man United, is poor or not upto scratch, I will criticize and call him out. Similarly, if the player plays well and is now a vital cog in the system, I will sing his praises.

That's all really. This 'agenda' bullshit is nauseating at times. Fans have different favorites and often prefer different types of footballers, that is a very natural thing, to be honest. Why does everyone have to be so cynical?

PS: And Yes, I had major reservations about Lingard. I am happy to see him prove me wrong because that benefits United.

He's gonna have some highlight reel by the end of the season.

Some more....

I hate told you so posts. I could do it for probably every member on here but don't.

I'm more happy than anyone he is showing this form. He was poor in the past there is absolutely no disputing that, but his turn around has been phenomenal and I'm happy to be proven wrong by someone. First player to do that on here.

He'd put in good performances in the past but then follow it up with a run of bad ones. He was great against Chelsea at home last season for example but then followed it up by doing nothing for the rest of the season. He was very inconsistent.

What we're seeing now is him putting a run together and he's clearly growing in confidence. It's fantastic to see.

Also he's scored 22 goals now for Utd I think and the majority of them must be screamers. It's nice to have a player who can smash one in from 25 yards.

Delighted he's doing so well. I always felt he was worthy of playing for United but didn't see this run of form coming.

Stop to think what was the reason for that performance?

Because he played in a forward position, like he is now (where surprise surprise we are seeing his best form)

The rest of the season he was shunted to the RW again, he’s not a winger and it did him no favors.

It reminds me of when fletcher was shoved to the RW. No surprise that he was guff there because he’s a bloody CM

Since we're in the habit of bringing up old posts, and some people are precious about their old posts not aging well, and people calling them up on it.

I decided to pat myself on the back

Think this would be a great option. Mkhi is our most versatile attacking player, and operates well on the wing or centrally.
Lingard operates best centrally, but he can work well with a fluid attacking line that interchanges positions depending on the play.

His performance thread last year is a great read btw, best seller in drama

fair dues to him, i used to be so critical of him but even i have recently been converted by lingardinho. has been really important for us

Its okay, you're too preoccupied with the kardashians we can't expect you to protect all the misguided heroes in the world

if we give him 200k a week will he start scoring two screamers a match?
You'd think so. He's basically Messi, Iniesta and local boy rolled into one player.

Great run of form atm.

I'm happy to have been staunchly on team Jesse since the beginning and have defended him at length against some of the most ridiculous shit posted on the caf.

Paul the Wolf hasn't posted in here for a while. Weird that. Same with AndyJ1985.

 Plus, I'm a moron.

We need a SteveJ Poster Performances thread!

Paul the Wolf, I remember him saying if we paid Lingard £5 a week it would be too much, what a guy.

I think the most important thing for Jessie is playing through the middle. As a winger he is as lost as Scholes or Lampard. I think his build and quick feet have made him a bit understood. Both Jose and LvG took more than a year to figure it out, even playing him as wing back!

Fergie compared him to Jean Tigana when he said he would break-through late, and I bet he would have played him there more consistently two years ago.

This is the first time he has played through the middle consistently over a longer time period. He has developed a lot in just a month. I’m not sure he would have been world class if he had been given more game time there in the past, but its fair to assume he would have been even better. Probably a lot too.

Lingard is in great form at the moment. What a difference it it makes using him in the no.10 role instead of the faux winger role he had for years. Always thought he was a terrible in wide areas. All his best moments are in or just outside the penalty area, running from deep positions. Reminds me of Pedro at CFC in many way, he's always making runs off the ball. Hope his form continues.

Now I hope Mourinho deals with the other blindspot he has in using Rashford on the left flank. Should use him on the right side, he looks more comfortable there.

The fraud scores another banger

He has a real knack for the spectacular does Jesse. Nearly every one of his goals is a contender for goal of the month.

Can we appreciate his simple but effective dribbling? The way he put the ball forward made defending so difficult. This proves what made him really good, great understanding of football. More of that please Messe!

He's ALWAYS been a very clever player and he's ALWAYS been very good technically and he's ALWAYS had some of the best movement in the league. All that's really changed is that he's being played in a position where he can get into goal scoring positions on a more regular basis. Even if his goals dry up, he'll still be good enough to play for us. The main things he lacks are a YouTube video of flashy stepovers and a non-British passport. On this forum the word 'English' seems to be used mainly as an insult.

Amazing strike, great touch before. Not to mention his movement prior to the goal is great and is it just me or does he point at Lukaku to receive the pass from Martial?

Another game where I feel even without his goal, he had a pretty good performance. He's so much better on the ball this season than he's ever been.

This thread will now turn into a competition between posters, just like the great Martial vs Rashford debate earlier on in the season.

Will be the ‘I told you so’ vs those who now feel compelled to justify their earlier comments.

Long Live King Jessi.

Spot on and that's the point. From what I can see, the majority who were critical (when he often deserved it) are now unanimously praising him. I don't know why it seems like there's some weird battle going on. He's massively improved this season and I'm loving it. I've been a huge critic in the past but the guy has totally won me over.

Conversely it seems it's his previous 'defenders' that are still making this thread polemic. Revisionism has certainly set in, in some quarters and it seems some are pretending that he wasn't often extremely poor on the ball. Let's just praise the lad for his huge improvement.

Yeah, where have they gone? The nation (at least, this forum) turns its lonely eyes to them.

Weirdo post
Nothing weird about it. I just find it funny that you of all posters is complaining about local lad posts, when you have a habit of mentioning it yourself. Peak irony. I mean 3 days between your posts - probably because the first one didn't bang - is tiresome:

He's definitely improved his localness.

Has definitely improved his localness this season so credit where it's due.

(Nothing wrong with criticism btw and this isn't a "I told you so" type of post, which is the definition of tedious.)

My work here is done. Have a blessed day g.

The matchday threads are genuinely embarrassing. During a bad performance, half our players are 'disowned' by some supposed 'fans'.

In defense of that though, people are a fan of the club not a fan of the players.

Players are just employees of the club and players are just put on football fans, fans have no choice which players they get - So I'm not sure how you can 'disown' a player when you may never wanted or agreed to have allegiance with a certain player the first place. Sure, get behind players for the good of the team, but there will always be players you like and dislike even at your own club.
