Less talented player in the squad, wouldn't play as a regular starter in any other team of the league

The reactions to him on here are pathetic.

There's about three times more posts bemoaning that missed shot then there were talking about his incredible assist.

He's had a really good half but that shot will be all that matters now.

He's too old to have the "he's a young lad" excuse. Excellent assist and generally decent running the channels but feck me what terrible composure.

Squad player for life.

The good and bad of Jesse lingard.

Made a great run and a brilliant first time cross, then missed an absolute sitter.

Yep. Even world class strikers miss such opportunities. Ridiculous to write off a player because of a missed shot.

Must be the worst finisher of any attacker in our squad. Lovely cross though.

He's a good squad player. But he could be an excellent one if he could learn to finish. Bloody costs us.

Good half, with Rooney and Zlatan we need someone to run their tits off to offset the slow. Should have hit the target though and he'll get a fair bit of stick for that.

Nice work for the assist and then reverts to type for the chance at the end.

He always has a big miss in him, I am quite happy with him though, their FB's are slow as feck and that is where our key lies, if only we didnt have a tortoise on our left flank.

Great squad player but will not be good enough to take us to the next level.....

Are people really calling that chance a sitter ?
Very surprised by the reactions, it was a good chance but hardly an open goal tap in. Also the runs he's been making have been useful and contributes to our attacking football. Very good squad player and great for the dressing room.

The stuff he has to do when he's not thinking he is fantastic at. Just look at some of his goals.

But when he's got time to do something then his decision making is awful.

He's a fecking frustrating player. His movement is top notch but most of the time it's pointless cause, his finishing is horrendous.

Seen the best and worst of him that half

Great running off the ball and into space

Can't finish for toffee

Still better than Rooney that half though

Definitely one of our better players this half

Very bright, lots of runs and a great assist

Missed a great chance and gets slated by the caf

To be fair, he should've passed it to Rooney. Still, not an easy chance in any way.

He's 10 yards out under no pressure with the ball bouncing nicely at a good angle. If that's not an easy chance for a professional I don't know what is.

He could have even squared it for a tap in!

It is ridiculous the things that are called sitters on here at times. You have to be the greatest player ever to be expected to score some of them. I've seen 40 yard long passes over the shoulder on the volley while sprinting from like 14 yards out called a sitter on here. It is mind boggling really, I can't believe some people have ever kicked a ball in their life to call some of this shit a sitter.

A good half from him with fantastic assist but lacks composure in front of goal. Misses sitters but scores worldies when under no pressure of 'have to score.'

Good assist otherwise a bit meh on the ball.

He's moving about though, into good areas. Overall he's doing fine so far, better than Rooneys contributions I'd say.

If there's one criticism then it's his finishing. Sometimes it can be good, sometimes it can be bad, as we saw late on in the second half. Just needs to be a more consistent finisher in front of goal. If he adds that, then to me, we've got one hell of a player.

Needed more composure for that chance at the end. But lovely cross, great runs, including the one to create the Rooney chance off the bar. Good half.

Yeah I don't understand it honestly. I think he's shown more than enough to deserve a longer run here.

He's never going to be a proper first XI player, and even then, he'll mainly get in the side when he offers something Mata or Martial (who both have, and will get more starts) can't...So for a player willing to play that diminished squad role, with gusto, he's more than good enough.

It mostly comes back to this weird video game belief that every top team these days has a squad of 22 World Beaters. Which is nonsense

Great half from Jesse, one of our best attacking players.

Trolls will be trolls.

What he did after Poggers found him with an awesome pass from the outside of his boot is the most disappointing and unfortunately unsurprising negative in him.
He did not even try to make something of the advantage that lovely pass gave him.
