None of that has anything to do with the bizarre suggestion that wanting parity with the club average is the same as everyone wanting to earn what Rooney does.
You're right, but then we aren't talking about wanting the club average, we're talking about a playing wanting parity with Memphis Depay.

The initial claim via the tweet was his advisors are aware the club average is higher than the amount he's being offered. Depay was just used as an example of a typical squad player who is earning more than Lingard to make the point that it's not unreasonable for him to want the same.

I know it was, I was responding to the suggestion he should be asking for parity with a player the club deems overpaid and surplus to requirements.

He's overpaid relative to what he contributes to the team though, not because 80k is an obscene amount of money to pay for a squad player in a team our size.
Young is on 110k, Memphis is on 80k, Schneiderlin is on 80k etc.

Lingard is seen as a squad player and contributed more than those players, so why should he settle for a considerable drop in price?

That's my point though, using Depay as a measuring stick is pointless because he's overpaid by the clubs perceived value of the player. He was paid 80k a week because at the time of purchasing he was considered one of the best youngsters in the world. it's not a fair comparison to a renewal.

In regards to what is an acceptable wage for a squad player, would any other team in the league pay Lingard 80k a week? an

Okay all of our defenders are on 80-90k a week. When Smalling Bailly come back, all 5 defenders will be rotated depending on form, fitness & the opposition. Smalling is probably on more due to him being the oldest & most experienced.

But that's the definition of a squad player right? Jones was perpetually injured for 2 years while earning 70-80k.
Why shouldn't Lingard have parity with those other squad players?

The only players who are on 60k are probably Romero & Januzaj. Darmian is probably paid more than 60k. The only reason Rashford isn't on similar terms is because he quadrupled his salary from about 8k a week. We were never going to give him 10x as much, but in his next contract depending on how he develops the minimum he can expect is 70k.

Instead of offering Lingard more to match the other squad players, we should be offering all our squad players less.

We've got too many over paid players, let's not make Lingard another.

Martial, Mkhitaryan, Mata, Rooney, Rashford - that's 5 players ahead of him for the 2/3 spots behind the striker. Let's not over pay our 6th choice.

If it means some our average squad players leave I wouldn't be too heart broke.

You said United should offer all the squad players less. You don't think this will affect the clubs ability to attract future signings? Its bad enough we're not a CL club anymore. Premium wages is one advantage we have when trying to sign players. If United start paying its squad players less than or equal to what rivals like Arsenal, Liverpool or Chelsea are paying who do you think players will sign up for first?

Jesse should have started yesterday. He'd have been much more effective than Mkhitaryan in a tough away game.

Hope he gets a start against Zorya as he's done well in the EL and should be fresh.

Jesse has probably been emboldened by the prospect of becoming one of Southgate's key England players in the near future - and therefore feels he deserves parity with some of those 'elite' players.

I think the next World Cup could be the making of him - although whether he'll be a first-team regular here by that time looks doubtful, particularly under Jose. He likes his favourites and sticks to them.

The strongest ability of Lingard is his workrate, he usually take part in both offense and defense paths with hunger, diligence of high level at every matches. But problem is that in both aspects, all his skills are average and to be honest, i dont see it changes much in recent years as well as in the future. His potential got limits, just like Welbeck, although he can sometimes make sparkle moments, it doesnt last frequently, any high-level teams cannot depend on him as main role.

Then i dont think that we should keep him by any costs, another 16m from Arsenal or any other teams and we could goobye him with the peaceful mind.

If he stays, i think he can contribute for us like Jose Callejon did at Mou-Real, but it only works when we have in opposite wing a winger with very powerful attacking ability, and Lingard can help this winger doing some defensive works to give our team the balance. But at this moment i dont think Mou have a winger like Robben, CR7 or Hazard. Then our best pair of wingers should still be Martial and Mkhitaryan, until atleast one of them steps up and Lingard can join

If he wants more money then he can find another club. He puts in good performances sometimes, not most times - therefore he doesn't deserve more than what he's being offered, which is still too much in my opinion. Hope Ed does not give in. We need to stop paying shitloads to squad players.

Did you make this up? TFM signed a new deal in October.

Lingard should get at least 80k, considering how much Young, Memphis, Fellaini and Rojo make.

If Rooney, Bastian, Fellaini, Memphis and Young are sold that woud free up 730k in wages. Almost 3/4 million weekly. Wow.

The strongest part of Lingards game is his movement which is top class, he is constantly under-rated by many on here by as much as januzaj was over rated

Does Valencia really only have 1 year left?

Yes he only has 1 year/6 months left in his contract. A lot of people have been hoping for United to offer him a new contract, but so many people also think he will be offered right at the end of the season just like what we normally did to Scholes and Giggs.

Zorya 0:2 Man Utd
No threadmark. Thought his movement when he came on was good, but was glad Zlatan kinda had a go at him (well stared him out) after taking that shot. I do think hes a good sub to have to bring on. Would rather he comes on for Mata than Fellaini tbh (as it doesnt invite pressure but still gives us a threat going forward).

Lingard is average. Nothing more than a squad player and doesn't deserve a 60K contract.

He's the perfect squad player. He's tactically aware with good movement and defensive work, has decent technique and an eye for goal.

Great to cover for any of the attacking positions behind the striker, but just doesn't have enough quality on the ball to start for the level we're aiming for.

Nothing wrong with that, he can be the Park of the Mourinho era and that would be a great achievement for a local lad from Manchester.

how much would you pay for a squad player then? our top players are getting payed 200-250k and most of our rotation players are above 60k....people getting upset about him getting a pay raise and even with that raise he will be one of the lowest payed players in the club:rolleyes:

Pretty much most of our players . Although £60k per week is actually considered to be a wages for average squad player in a top club.
