You're a bit too much, to be honest. An utter hypocrite who trawls through this thread quoting anyone who doesn't share your opinions on Lingard and attempts (very poorly and usually backfires) to belittle their posts. It is odd, yes. How many times do you need to bring up fecking Mkhitaryan in here? But yeah, it's alright to constantly criticise him but no one dare speak a bad word about Lingard.

It is a bit strange as he was doing the exact opposite with Cleverley.

Calling him awful and everything. Which he was correct. But it's hypocritical of him if he can't accept that people have different views about Lingard. Just like he had about Cleverley.

Martial didn't get a full preseason and basically lost his place. Pogba has been played in every game.

Pogba had no preseason whatsoever but he's earned his playing from the go unlike Martial who as you said, still took part of the preseason but didn't perform enough to keep his spot. Martial is deservedly being benched right now, he's done feck all.

I accept that I'm in the minority but I think, when fit, Martial should start every game possible. He's just too talented and the other options out wide aren't good enough to be worth benching him for prolonged periods even though I like both Rashford and Lingard.

Have to agree. He was like a one man beacon of joy last season, so to be kept out by a squad player, and a striker being eased in out wide is just wrong.

I like Lingard, but often when Pogba has it, he sees Lingard, you can see him think "he won't do anything useful", so keeps it longer himself.

Also I'm sure Jose before yesterday's game would have been drilling into the players not to give soft free kicks with Payet about.

So Lingard gives one in the first minute. Then gives another stupid foul away in a identical position.

I'd say theres quite a few people who feel the same. He's our best option on the wings along with Mkhitaryan. Both should be given a run in the side between now and Xmas to find form. If we can get both of those guys firing we have a chance in the second half of the season.

I thought Cleverly turned a page in the comm shield against City when he came on at halftime and we beat them 3-2, but it was just a dream. I don't think Lingard is perfect and I won't hesitate to criticize him, but I honestly feel some of the criticism he gets on here is irrational and hatred driven. Sue me if you think im wrong :)

I do get that feeling from Pogba too when you see him hesitate with the ball, keeping it for longer than you think he'd like but, to be fair, Lingard's strengths are more without the ball than with. He's not terrible with the ball by any means, but it's his movement off it which makes him a useful player to have. I hope Rashford and Martial take notice because although they're both more talented they're movement off the ball is quite static. Especially in Martial's case.

Well I'm glad there's more who feel the same but I've seen plenty of posts where people have agreed with the benching of him saying he needs to earn his place. I understand why some think this way as, in recent years, with Rooney and now Zlatan being guaranteed spots no matter how well they're playing it's just left a bad taste with players being unfairly favoured over others, but I think it's different with Martial. Unlike with Rooney and Zlatan, Martial on his bad days still adds a whole lot to the team (imo) and he isn't the finished product yet so persisting with him will be of benefit in the long run as his potential is scary.

With Rooney doing well on the left, and Mkhi seemingly coming into the team now, I still hope to eventually see him get a shot up front again. Not that Zlatan's been bad the last couple of games - I'd just like to see him have a game there again. He's been brilliant on the left for us since he arrived but I thought his performances as our striker were brilliant too, and showed a lot of promise. Personally, I'd like to see both Martial and Rashford up front together a la Rooney & RvP/Zlatan against a team like Sunderland. The old 9 and a halfs as RvP put it. I don't expect anything of the sort anytime soon, though.

But you do hesitate to criticise Lingard! Let's be honest!

Notice how quite they were when he scored in midweek? It would be the same if one of his three attempts against West Ham went in. They are making up any excuse to have a dig. Mkhitaryan had 2 attempts in midweek against Fyenoord and none of them hit the target. Lingard on the other hand had three, forcing two saves and one hitting the back of the net. Even against West Ham he worked the keeper twice, but Mkhitaryan was supposedly better and made the team 'more fluid' despite the second half being worse than the first offensive wise

So he scores a goal and you think the rest of his performance is forgotten about? You think we are all that shallow? Now you are going on about shots not hitting the target! Did you see Jesse's shots? If they whiz past the post or trundle into the gk arms what does it matter? It's all about the performances and in Jesse and Mykytarins position creativity. Sure Jesse is not a bad player but he hasn't the ability of Myktarin or Martial in my opinion. You on the other hand go to the extreme of defending him and praising him for running around passing the ball 5 yards with next to no take ons a game.

He was good going forward but defensively he was so clumsy. Two stupid fouls, one of which we conceded a goal from.

Even if his stats are good (often deceiving mind), the fact is we play better without him in the side and that cannot be disputed. Took us 2 minutes to score today against the same team we couldn't break down Sunday. A bit of magic from Mkhitaryan that Lingard doesn't have unfortunately.

This is really bad logic. For a start we aren't playing against the same line-up we played against on Sunday.

It's more than just this game though. Prior to Sunday's game the 2 weeks Lingard wasn't in the side we looked much better but not going to keep going in to that. You only need to have a pair of eyes tonight to notice that Mkhitaryan is a much superior player.

I like Jesse, but Mkhitaryan's on an entirely different level. Not playing Mkhi to accommodate Lingard will hold us back.

If we get to the final in Wembley, he needs to be given minutes to work his magic there :)

I am still shocked people defended him starting over Martial

Despite Martial struggling for fitness, form and being in a bad place mentally at the start of the season?

We've got a squad for exactly that reason, let it go.

Some people are fans of the player more than the team.

As a squad member at United, £60k a week is about right.

Depends on your definition of "right".

If it means what you personally judge to be a fair level then that's fair enough, if it's based on what you think the other squad players are on, I think you're a little out. You're looking at £80k plus these days.

It might be.. but if Memphis Depay is in £80k a week why should he not request Memphis money.. I would.
That's like every player expecting to be £300k because Rooney is.

I think it would be hard to look your employer in the eye being Jesse Lingard and say I want Wayne Rooney wages??

I don't think it would be hard to do the same with Memphis Depay.. the guy he's keeping on the shelf. Don't you?

Wonder how much he wants. £60k seems reasonable to me

Memphis is on £90k actually and yeah this is the problem right now, when a player like Memphis and Schneiderlin who have done worse than Lingard himself are getting £90k and £100k per week, someone might feel a bit jealous. I'm afraid Martial who is still on £65k per week will ask a lot of money soon.

Let him go then. He is not that good to keep him around. Same for the other palyers thinking they can steal a wage with a decent performance every 5 games as a squad player.

If he asks just £10k extra which is £70k, that still so much better than keeping Memphis and Young who earn £90k and £110k per week.

Why do people care about wages? We waste plenty of money every fecking where.
I like him as a squad player. I want him to stay. Hope he gets the best deal he can.

What do you think why we are struggling to sell players like Schweinsteiger last summer? Let Nani on loan for free and paying his wages when he was on loan , and sold RVP cheap?

When the club is looking to sell the player it might be.

Do you think any other club in the world would pay Jesse 80k a week?

Not really. Or, at all.
The question to ask is do you beleive Depay is worth 80k a week? If the answer is no then it's not a particularly good barometer to use when considering the wage value of a player.

When his current performance and squad positon at the club is taken into context 60k a week sounds about right.

None of that has anything to do with the bizarre suggestion that wanting parity with the club average is the same as everyone wanting to earn what Rooney does.
