Honestly I'm not sure why we hate our own players so much. If theses goals came from Depay we'd have said he's potentially warranted the large fee yet a lad from Warrington from our own academy is seen so negatively. What you want from a young lad is progress year on year which he's shown, if the other lads of his gen showed the same potential, they'd equally would be starting and scoring in cup finals....
It's not that he's academy graduate but the fact that he's been integrated into the team by van Gaal makes us subconsciously think negatively of him.

I like him. Probably seen as quite an unremarkable player given some of the attacking talent at our disposal and being English and all, but he's certainly a useful player.

Think it's his end-product, namely finishing ability and being clinical when the opportunity presents itself that is what is severely lacking. He's an intelligent player with good off-the-ball movement, picking up good positions whether deep or more forward. Not outstanding technique-wise, but does have some fairly good link-up play and doesn't fare too badly in and around the box or in congested areas.

Certainly a worthy squad player and after a decent performance today, deserves to start the next game. I know it's fashionable to slate Rooney and probably all for the right reasons, but I'd much rather see Jesse start at the expense of someone like him.

Did great.. Love him proving everybody wrong. Great goal and nice to have United products running around.

Maybe....the lad has significantly contributed in both Wembley appearances with two worldy goals, not sure what he has to do for people not to get excited about. Honestly if he was anything other than English, people would think differently about him...

I don't get the love for Welbeck and the dismissive attitude towards Lingard. Yes, Lingard had some absolute shockers in the past, but as things look he's getting better. I'd give him another season, as a sub he's valuable and can help Pog to settle in, having these guys around seems a bit undervalued these days, imo.

Honestly, the same dismissive attitude was had with Welbeck when he was here because many taught he limited Hernandez opportunity. Lingard is no different in that many fans on here do not believe he is not quality enough to start. Yet, like Welbeck, I am sure he will find a way to become a consistent starter for us since he gives us pace, energy and dynamism, amongst many other things we need more of upfront.

I have mixed thoughts on him. Definitely has scored a few great goals for us and the fact that he is a youth academy product makes it all the sweeter. I just sometimes think he looks out of sorts in open play. I hope Mourinho can get the best out of him with good coaching and also get him involved in a style of play that suits him better. He did seem to have 10x more freedom in todays match versus the LVG era where you had to seemingly stay in a small patch of grass the entire match. His goal is a perfect example. He popped up in the middle of the pitch to take that ball on the slalom to goal. You just feel that last year he would be whinging out wide and afraid to do anything.

That dance....

Is that not the Pogba dance in his Addidas commercial before the Euro's?

I think it was a welcoming...

Wouldn't be shocked if he plays as a ten for us, I was genuinely impressed with his link up play in the first half when he came infield.
that's his best position but first you have to wait once one rubish player's contract expires it seems so we can finally play according to player's performances not reputation...

would be actually really great combo MikT starts from the right and Lingard from the middle, they could interchange position all game, both being comfortable in both positions, Lingard can also make runs forward while Ibra drops deep at times... as it was said, he's an intelligent player and makes good runs, one of his many assets, but with his development he's very close to darren fletcherwho once became a key player for us even though he wasn't the best talented guy in the squad... Lingard's like that for an attacking player at times a bit too average for a top club but he works hard and his willingness to try things never give up can be priceless, we need players like him... and I don't care if he ends up being a squad player or will have a bigger role in the team in the coming future, but you can sense that he has it in him despite claimed to be average, scored some beuatiful important goals and had some nice performances against great clubs/games chelsea, city, Fa cup final, community shield...

we should definitely keep him and wait how he develops...

@m1y2 you reckon he is better in the middle then on the left?
In the end he would play the same role and in the same way in both positions but i reckon it would be easier for him to find pockets of space when he isnt the main focus of opponents DMs.
The most brilliant thing about Jesse is that he plays in the worst position(by far) of the three that he can play and he is still performing and outperforming "more talented" players that are used in their natural/best positions.

That is absurd. Was Rashford not integrated in the team by LVG?

Lingard has been average, while missing key chances in many games in the past couple of years. Two absolute world class goals shouldn't change that.

Having said that, I'm very impressed with him and it seems like he's improving a lot. Reminds me of Pedro in the Barca side. Solid, did his job and went unnoticed.
Let's hope it continues.

Such a good player I love him in our team. Makes us a totally different side to play against. Great goal today.

Not a world class player (yet, maybe, maybe not? Who knows) but seems like the type of player that needs to be in the squad if not the starting lineup to "gel" the team together, especially if there are many stars in the team. I am not saying he is on par or will be or better, but he is similar type to Muller, as in he is selfless and playing as a team in a sea of star players like Ribery, Robben, Lewandowski amongs others.

He went missing a little today, but it's often his movement off the ball that is his real strength. He also covers well in the transition from attack to defence when we lose the ball.

Underrated player. He will only get better.

I always love our Academy players I must admit but I do think we need Lingard in the team. He epitomises the United Way for me, quick, slick one touch passing, inventive movement, link up play with one-twos, the heart, desire and excitement of playing football. I see him as a future Captain to be honest. Only question is what position, for me he's a central midfielder of the roaming variety, box to box. Will be fascinating to see him and Pogba play together and what kind of setup would make that possible. I do think though that his longer pre-season made him look sharper than the rest though. And for all his goal celebration haters, I think his youthful enjoyment and playfulness is exactly what made that world class goal possible. Long may it continue.

I've always thought he's not quite good enough to be more than a squad player for us but if he keeps this up it will be very hard to leave him out of the team.

Haha yeah just saw that commercial. Surely that's an invitation to Pogba to join the dab Academy!

I'm really warming up to him since the fa cup goal. He has energy, pace and is very hardworking. He is no great dribbler but he doesn't have to be. He can link up play and has decent movement. He needs to improve his finishing though. He scores great goals when he has no time to think but when given some time, he messes it up. If he can improve that, he'll easily score 10 goals a season for us from the wing or the no.10 position.

That was a very good goal and a good performance overall. If he can keep it up, he should be a pencil in for the RW/AM position.

Took his goal very well. I thought overall he was really good, looks like he'll get plenty of minutes under Jose. I think his pace and directness could see him becoming a very good impact sub too, once Miki finds his feet.

Why not just Jessi?
Because even though it was a great goal, it was barely like Messi. Ball was too far away from his foot to be Messi-like, and a bit of proper defending from Leicester would have stopped that goal, exactly for that reason.

Nevertheless good run, decent finish

Have we discounted Jesse too hastily when posting our "United XI under José"? He does like a hard working winger (eg Willian)

Let's see if he can deliver on a consistent basis. That so far his been his huge weakness, that the quality and final ball just were not there

Played well yesterday, he's not a sparkling player but there's something I like about him, maybe it's because he reminds me of Dobby from Harry Potter.

I'm pretty sure that's been said quite regularly, no? There's been loads of comparisons to Willian and loads on here saying Jose will love him.

I agree in general but yesterdays goal was one where he had time to think. He even checked his run while running and showed good composure. I think the composures there but maybe he doesn't always take enough care. He had the luck yesterday and if he's lucky then he'll be a very productive player for United

He's a good player, I don't think he should be starting but definitely a good player to have in the squad.

Past couple of years?

probably seen him play long before you ever heard about him.
Seen him play when he had Lingards age. Would prefer Lingard any time. Auba was a very twitchy footballer back then.

What are you even talking about? Lingard is 23, he'll be 24 at the end of the year and Aubameyang just turned 27. At 23/24 Aubameyang was banging in goals in Ligue 1. There's no comparison between the two.

I am pretty sure if you would put Lingard in the strikers position of a half decent Ligue 1 team, he would be "banging" in goals as well. Around 15 is ok'ish, banging is something different. 15 goals in Ligue 1 is Ben Yedder, Germain, Diego Rolan type of player. He was a good player, but not good enough that any even half decent team from the top leagues was interested in him.
