Jerome Boateng

This also seems to become a popular opinion on here. In reality Pavard isn't even particularly close to Boateng in terms of quality right now. Don't really think we need another young CB that needs to be developed. I'm sure he will be good for Bayern when he inevitably joins them, but that doesn't mean that we would be stupid for buying Boateng.

Definitely agree. He is young, talented, and hungry though.

The facts are he was found wanting throughout the World Cup, constantly being found out of position, not tracking back and when he did try to make it back he went at a snails pace. Is that fact enough?
If that's the level you want to lead this discussion on, then yeah, that's enough.

The fact is, if you go by only the world up, which 80% of the people here are, Germany a horrible side, even worse than the pitiful excuses for national teams that are Spain, Argentina, Brazil. Only true football minnows like Italy or the Netherlands can be rated below them and their players.

Not saying Germany will do better again any time soon, but I think it's clear that Germany shockingly underperformed as a whole, meaning the players should have done better. Out of that team though semi injured Boateng was nowhere near as bad as players like Khedira, Müller, Draxler, and Hummels though.

So why is it that United have made him 4th choice? Mina Maguire and Alderweireld are above him. If he’s such a great defender and will improve our team why haven’t we been in for him sooner? He’s been touted around Europe for the last month or more and in desperation we are looking at him when the window is close to shutting. Even PSG are stalling on signing him, he’s done and not what we need.

So you're only going by the World Cup where Germany played a stupidly high line and Boateng had only just come back from a hamstring injury a few days before the tournament started.

Couldn't have said it better.

Christian Falk in the Guardian today is saying that Boateng is high on Mourinho's wishlist. The fact is we don't actually know how high he is on the list.

Why is it that United and PSG have targeted him at all if he's worse than all the currently available United options, as half the people in this thread are saying? PSG negotiations are stalling because of the price Bayern want for a 29 year old. If Bayern just sold Vidal to Barca for 20 million, how bad can Boateng really be, who they want twice as much for?

This hasn’t been on the radar much of the window and now it’s near ending it seems desperate. If it’s the price then leaving it this late isn’t doing the team any favours. The price will increase rather than go down. It’s true we don’t know how high he was on the list but didn’t Bayern make it known that Vidal and boateng were available a few weeks back?

The price is going to go up the closer the window gets to closing rather than go down. If United have been in for him all summer and PSG are in for him as well then fair enough PSG could be playing the waiting game until our window closes first and that might bring the price down. But if we are in for then I don’t see the price going our way.

Just because they want 40m doesn’t make him a great signing. I just don’t think he would be a good fit for the premier league and would rather Alderweireld who will improve us.

Inappropriate Behavior
Absolutely no need for this, offensive to say the least.

Don't worry I got a warning so you can rest easy knowing the moderators do a great job looking after the vulnerable posters of the forum.

Anyway, heck of a player when fit and would be our best defender by a country mile, well worth a punt.

Used to be decent but he's basically the Centerback version of late Rooney, difference is that while Rooney was shot he was still decently mobile while Boateng now has the agility of a cargo vessel. He is also overrating his passing ability, thinks he's Pirlo the way he's trying Hollywood balls from the back.

Mina is definitely not above him. If he were we would have signed him by now.

We have no idea what level of choice he's at.
Maybe Utd thought he was off to PSG (like everyone else) and now he's only made himself available to other clubs?
Maybe he was holding out for a Spanish club to come in as that's his preferred destination?
Who the feck knows?

I honestly believe most on here's assessment of players is purely based on what the media feed them. The other thing is even if he was, who's to say that's still not better than 60% of what we got here. Could Jones, Rojo or Smalling play for Bayern this season?

So why havent we signed Boateng yet? Why has negotiations only begun now if reports are true?

This may have something to do with Alderweireld and maybe Maguire (though I think our interest in the latter is overstated) but it’s definitely not because we are finding it tough to beat Everton to Mina.

Would be the best CB in the league instantly.

Fans in being hugely biased and overrating their own player shocker.
That might be the case but they surely know more about Boateng than the idiots on here who have only watched him in the World Cup and call him the 'German Titus Bramble'

So you’re saying Rooney is dead, Boateng is a casket who’s growing Mel Gibson testicles out of his ass? I simply can’t believe that.

Neither could Boateng by the looks of it

I haven't only watched him at the world cup either. Hes just not the world class CB loads of us are suddenly pretending he is. He is certainly not a 50m CB. Its embarrassing. Don't just berate people who don't see Boateng as an amazing signing. Its our 4th choice

Could be a great transfer for Utd. Fast, great tackle, good passing. Media says that the reason Rummenigge wants to sell him is that he is too injury prone, too much social media and meetings with Jay-Z for dinner. Media says also that Süle is seen as the better CB in the club. I think he will be one of the best CB in the world again if he can focus and stays free of injuries. I think he could play 3 years at absolut world class level
